today’s funky frog of the day is: dendrobates tinctorius "azureus"! commonly known as the blue poison dart frog, they are endemic to suriname. their bright color serves as a warning to predators, as their poison can paralyze and even kill the predator, but they lose their toxicity when in captivity due to diet change. scientists believe their toxins could be helpful to humans and are researching to see if they can be used in pharmaceuticals. the feet of these frogs each have four toes used for gripping, and the tips of the males’ toes are heart-shaped. their toes also each have a unique pattern, like your fingerprint.
