My Thoughts On Demon Slayer Entertainment District Arc

My Thoughts On Demon Slayer Entertainment District Arc

(Spoilers)

-Starting off strong with Rengoku's dad being a dick and some exposition. Tanjirou is clearly going through it.

-Again, love the illustrations in between scenes.

-After some thinking, I think Rengoku's family is interesting. His father clearly has some deep issues, and Senjuro is a sweet kid. I'm not sure if they'll do anything with him but I'm intrigued.

-Also, sun breathing. I'm eager for the lore and mystery.

-Already hate Tengen. Seriously dude. What a fucking asshole. Poor butterfly girls.

-Also, a nice detail of just how scary acting on her own will is for Kanao. Recovery is a long road and it won't be easy. I hope they don't disregard it in later episodes.

-Not much for me to say on them infiltrating as women. It was fun.

-Inosuke is remarkably smart and observant at times. It's a good balance and makes me wonder how he'd be if he was properly educated.

-The nice oiran and the little girls are adorable and I love them all.

-She also says trans rights, I don't make the rules. I mean, she was just cool with it.

-Fuck you Daki.

-I still don't care about Tengen.

-Good on Rengoku's dad for apologizing.

-Tanjiro with bloody eyes is actually kinda creepy. This sun breathing fight is sick as hell.

-I am a bit pissed at the abrupt stop of the dead - ghost sister telling him to breathe and the fight ending there.

-NEVERMIND NEZUKO COMING IN CLUTCH!

-KICKED PART OF HER HEAD OFF

-THIS IS SICK AS FUCK

-The whole lullaby part has me tearing up. They really are just kids. And even if she isn't mentally herself, she is still just a little girl missing her mommy. She really doesn't get to grieve in her state or situation. And to see her turn into a little girl after crying really feels like it means something.

-I also enjoy seeing her struggle and to a degree losing against her demon instincts.

-These townspeople are gonna be so fucking traumatized.

-What.

-Again thinking about how becoming a demon seems to distort and make a person's personality more extreme.

-Tengen calling the demons dumbass bottom feeders is 10/10.

-Rengoku already haunting the narrative.

-The demon siblings and their backstory are genuinely heartbreaking. They were just kids. It's awful. Things could have been different but instead it was tragedy all the way down.

-I honestly kinda get it, as an older sibling myself. My situation was never even close to as bad, but it wasn't good. And to do your best to care for your siblings, wanting better for them, and see how you have messed up...

-I'm listening to her cry about not wanting him to hate her and I'm about to cry. I did not fucking expect to feel so much for these awful little bastards.

-I actually grew to somewhat like Tengen at the end. Not as much as others but still. Same with the Master at the end. Seeing him genuinely excited and hopeful changed my tune.

-I enjoyed the parallel? between Nezuko and Tanjiro and the demons this season. How Tanjiro acknowledges how easily they could have been in each other's shoes. It wasn't overplayed like I'd expect a lot of shows to do. Just the right balance. -And my final thought, as always, is just how good the animation was. Especially in the last few episodes.

no but how much audacity and sheer entitlement do you have to have to tell people they need to stop posting their darkfic and porn fic and any other fic you don’t like to ao3 so you can have a safe space when ao3 was literally created as a safe space for writers to post their content without fear of it being randomly wiped out by pro-censorship assholes with an agenda like what has happened to plenty of other fic archives before?

“but a lot of us see ao3 as a safe space to get away from that kind of nasty content” - lol you can see the middle of a busy interstate as a safe space all you want too but that doesn’t mean that you get to walk into the road and scream at all the cars going by that they’re the ones infringing on your safe space either

ao3 is not, has never been, and will never be a site meant for nothing but children’s stories. you can “see it” like that as much as you want but there’s a difference between fiction and reality and that view of what ao3 is like is as fictional as the stories posted on it.

the concept and idea of “you can always start trying to be a better person” is extremely important to me both in media and irl and i continue to be deeply deeply disturbed by the trend on this site pushing that these ideas in media are bad writing or even morally reprehensible

because theyd rather someone stay terrible or just straight up die than become a better person

from a compassionate point of view it’s deeply distressing and from a pragmatic point of view it’s outright frustrating

it’s fucked up.

Friendly Reminder That Breast Cancer Does Not Always Appear As A Lump.

I'm usually on the camp of "Nezuko's mental age regression is a bad writing decision because it takes agency away from the sole female main character" - but after Tamayo's explanation that Nezuko traded consciousness for changing her biological makeup to co-exist peaceably with humans, I am forced to admit that as usual any writing decision in KnY I initially hate ends up lining up unexpectedly with the themes of the centrality of love.

The reason Nezuko is such a special demon is because Tanjirou's protection and guidance allowed her to become one.

Most demons focused on the day-to-day of feeding themselves, finding somewhere to rest, and fending off humans who wanted them dead. Nezuko is a rare demon who had the protection of someone else, so she could afford to sleep most of the time and change her biology. Only Nezuko could afford to trade so much of her consciousness away and to become so childlike, airheaded and defenceless because Tanjirou took care of the day-to-day for her. Unlike the other demons, she didn't have to always be on guard and live with an everyone-for-themselves mentality.

Nezuko was also able to not taste a single drop of blood because Tanjirou carried her away from their family's bodies (while trying to get her to a doctor) and was strong enough to hold her off until she got a grip. And only she lived past being discovered by a demon slayer, because Tanjirou defended her and she defended him. And when she did feel the urge to eat (Red Light District arc), Tanjirou was there to stop her.

Also very importantly, Nezuko's love for Tanjirou provided her a very strong motivation to stay in this sub-human state of consciousness for the long period necessary.

Most demons did not have a very strong reason to force themselves not to eat. Either they had no respect for humanity to begin with (Gyokko, Muzan, Spider Demon Ryu), or everyone they loved had died and they were subsequently in too much despair to put up a fight (Tamayo, a certain spoiler demon who was so suicidal that forgetting his loved ones ironically helped him live longer).

Meanwhile Nezuko really needed to return to being human, because her brother will not stop fighting demons otherwise. Regaining consciousness and convincing him to quit isn't an option for her because the demon slayers wouldn't let her live, and Tanjirou won't let her die. (And if he did, he would never recover from her death.) Like I don't know how much Nezuko thought this through, but Tanjirou's plan to shake information out of demons while trying to kill them is frankly terrible, while Nezuko's course of action to just change her biology was wildly successful lol. She had the better idea. Just as Tanjirou walked this long road for Nezuko, Nezuko did for Tanjirou.

Man, this is why I really love KnY. When the narrative said that nothing could break the bond between Tanjirou and Nezuko, when it said that love lets people exceed any reasonable expectation and achieve the impossible, they weren't just saying it. Everything has always been there, lying out in the open and waiting for us to realize it. Like, which other demon could spend so much time sleeping away so that they can change their biology. Only the little sister whose big bro is still alive and willing to take care of everything for her, and who herself loves him enough to achieve the impossible, of course.
