I haven't been on tumblr in a while since my mood hit a point where I didn't feel like doing much of anything except what I needed to to get by. I'll get back to posting street shots when I get the chance to shoot but I've got other things I'm working on so who knows. Without getting too deep into specifics I've started a project about history/record-keeping/the flow of information so I'll be posting about that as well.

Homage to Winogrand

"Dear Thinh,

Congratulations! Your image, Capricorn, was selected as a finalist in the Homage to Winogrand contest. Of the 48 selections, it was designated "Best in Show" along with seven other images. Over 250 submissions were judged by Ksenya Gurshtein, Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellow, Department of Photographs, National Gallery of Art.

Ms. Gurshtein said the following about your image: "This photograph captures very precisely that distinctly Winograndian feel that we are looking at a fascinating story unfolding, but will never be able to figure it out."

Your image will be included in a digital display before the On the Street film screenings at the School of Communication's Malsi Doyle and Michael Forman Theater. I hope you can join us for one or all of the films!"

I was elated to hear this news and I'm feeling good about the way things are going for me finally. The National Gallery of Art in conjunction with American University's School of Communication are hosting a show of the selected images for Homage to Winogrand followed by Everybody Street tomorrow, April 11th, at 7pm in the Malsi Doyle and Michael Forman Theater for the opening. They'll be showing films on the 13th and 18th as well if you're interested. I hope to see a few of you there!
