open to: m/f/nb ! plot: anne is a governess & on her day off she's in town doing errands. that's it :-) note: feel free to assume preestablished relations!
It was her day off and, although Anne wanted nothing more but to crawl into bed and rest the hours away, she had errands that needed to be run before she could commit herself to an evening of leisure. She had managed to finish most of her shopping in the early morning hours, before the streets got too clustered with people, but she still had a few more shops to stop in before she was free to return home. But before she could set her sights on the book shop, her stomach began to rumble. Anne sighed, resting her hand over her stomach, trying to coo the rumbling away like a noisy child, but it was no use. If she were to finish her errands thoroughly, she’d need the fuel to keep going—especially since she’d be walking back to the Pleinsworth estate when she was through. Turning into the nearest tavern, Anne hoped to grab something quick and head back out into the morning air, but as soon as she began to open the door, she collided with another and nearly toppled to the ground.

“I’m not entirely sure myself. If I had to guess," She smirked, taking in the odd painting. "I’d say an army of frogs planning a coup? There’s quite an indulgent use of green, don’t you think?” Tilting her head from side to side, she sucked at her teeth. "Or are they perhaps mushrooms?"

i am a forgetful role player.
sometimes i will post inbox calls, starter calls or interaction calls and i will happily begin … when i have muse for it, and sometimes i will lack muse, and i may forget about it all.
that is not because of you, the other part.
forgetfulness is something that we often frown upon, take as an insult directly towards us as a person. “but they never write to me”, “they always forget about me”, “i’m not gonna interact because they always forget” and while these things are totally valid, it must be said that forgetting things are human. not only is it human, but we should allow role players to be forgetful every now and then, simply because many, if not all, have lives outside of Tumblr that require a lot of them.
my forgetfulness is never directed towards you as a person.
my forgetfulness is never directed towards your creations.
sometimes i forget because …
i am tired.
i have a lot on my mind.
i get lost in other tasks.
i have to prioritize.
i bite over more than i can chew.
i simply forget.
therefore it must be said, have patience. reach out. don’t just sit back and huff about how you “always seem to be forgotten”. some folks have a lot on their minds, and that needs to be allowed.
Do you not need a chaperone?
"A chaperone?" Anne blinked, a hint of amusement in her tone. She'd been governess to three young ladies for the past year, a job that seemed unending. The only time Anne was truly allowed a moment of peace and quiet was on her walks into town. She knew his intentions were most likely nothing but well-meant, but a part of Anne was bristled that she appeared to need such a thing.
"I appreciate your manners, sir, but think you are mistaken." Her words held a hint of sarcasm as she spoke, hoping such disinterest might be enough to dissuade his kindness. Kindness often equalled debt and she'd had enough of that in her life.
But perhaps he thought she was just another young lady out and about. She had been, once upon a time ago, but that life of luxury had been left behind years prior. But, if he thought her merely a young lady on her own, she supposed that would require a chaperone. Anne couldn't imagine Lady Sarah, or any of her charges wandering the streets by themselves. Realizing his possible ignorance, Anne smiled and shook her head. "I'm quite capable of walking on my own."

"Would he?" Anne asked with feigned disinterest. "My father would likely be mortified to know I still draw breath." She smirked, a humorless, breathy laugh accompanying the gesture. She always hoped her father didn't hate her, that he didn't blame her for the way their lives had turned out. Anne knew that her family would surely welcome her back, were the circumstances of her departure any different. But as long as both George and Annelise were alive, her life would always be in danger. And, thus, her family's would as well.
"And-- would you believe it-- toes." Her brows arched in faux surprise. Perhaps she'd been spending too much time around the girls, their sarcastic tendencies towards one another rubbing off onto their poor governess. At least she hadn't taken on Frances' desire to become a unicorn quite yet. Although Anne had sisters of her own, she'd never been the argumentative type, such behaviors having been left for Marabeth to wield. But the Pleinsworth daughters were the sort of siblings to show affection through combative quips and lighthearted insults, and perhaps she'd lived alongside them long enough that she had inherited a similar disposition.
"Anne Wynter. A pleasure to make your acquaintance." Her knee bent into a polite bow. Introductions for her were well-practiced and the words rolled off her tongue even if none of them were true.
"Oh, you need not have any apprehensions, then, Benjamin Tallmadge, when it comes to humble pie, London is not the type to let you go hungry. Unless it's actual food you seek, then it's rather frugal with its bounty." She adds with a smirk.
Being in the employment of a higher class family allowed her more luxuries than most governesses could ever dream of having. Hot food at a moment's notice wasn't something most people in the country could claim to have, and she never took it for granted. Or at least she tried not to. She had everything a young gentlewoman in her position could ask for: a warm, soft bed, food and clothing, and even extra days off when Lady Pleinsworth was feeling generous.
"Yes, anyone with working eyes can tell you're quite new here. Though, such a commodity is less common than you'd think. I'm rather lucky to have working legs and eyes. But I hope the city has been satisfactory enough. I know I was relieved to see such a lively city when I'd stepped foot off the boat."
Anne closed her eyes for a moment, imagining the day she'd arrived in London with little prospects and even littler hope. Things had changed since then and she'd grown to find comfort in the busy streets of London. Hopefully, if Benjamin were staying for any amount of time, he'd find it as refreshing as she had. "You mention pupils, does that allude to your work as a tutor? Or are you merely in the service of learning manners from young boys?"

“As much as your generosity flatters me, stranger, I’d prefer you refrain from imagining what’s under my skirts at all.”
Oh...oh.
All at once, a hot rocket of alarm jolted up into his chest, and flustered, Benjamin mentally boxed his own ears for such a mistake. It was unseemly to refer to legs in general, let alone a woman's, and yet in his haste to be sardonic, it would seem he'd forgotten...well...everything when it came to proper decorum.
"I-I wouldn't dream of it," he stammered. "I grew up on a farm, yes, but I wasn't raised in a barn... My father would be mortified, could he hear me right now."
Mercifully, the woman didn't seem bothered. She extended an olive branch of sorts, and Benjamin breathed a soft, relieved little laugh. "Yes, well the day is young," he replied. "I'm sure I can find a way to make you regret your words."

Her eyes narrowed somewhat, though not unkindly. "I warn you, I might have more under my skirts than just legs.”
"What, ankles and feet, too?" Benjamin teased. Instantly regretting his quip, he cleared his throat and instead, offered a slight bow. "Benjamin Tallmadge, at your service...and eating a hearty helping of humble pie, seeing how I've needlessly embarrassed myself multiple times this morning. I'd blame my lapse on spending so much time around my pupils, but...well...the influence should be myself upon them, not the other way around." Straightening again, he flashed a sheepish smile. "I'm relatively new to town. I arrived by ship about a fortnight ago, so...perhaps my manners -- or lack thereof -- can be blamed on dining with the crewmen."
