NAMJOON BEING FINALLY SO VOCAL ABOUT IT REALLY HITS..

BTS were always aliens. Over 7 years ago, they debuted in their mother country, South Korea, the scene was dominated by only individuals from the BIG 3 companies. Awards, variety shows, music shows… nothing was left for them to take. They will always be the shadow of someone wherever they went. Yes, everyone in that industry worked hard but they always had to work even harder than anyone. Recording all night after filling someone’s spot just to be shown clapping and reacting when it airs. Suga even said later “A medium-sized, ordinary idol was my second name. Countless people get cut from broadcast. But someone’s empty spot is our dream. They say some of these kids can’t make it cuz their agency is too small … I know.” 

They had to put their content online because there was no place left for them elsewhere. The most ironic part was how they had to make it overseas to be noticed in Korea. But overseas wasn’t a piece of cake nor a free one either. Humiliation, xenophobia, racism, belittlement, prejudice… all of this and more was added to the heavy bag BTS had to carry alone. Some will say, but they made millions, but they are popular, but… But you think getting stabbed and hated on can be ok from your standpoint when you are not the one feeling the blade on your flesh or seeing the blood on the soil. Suga said in UGH repeating what others tell them in case they try to express their pain: “Ah, what the hell is there to be upset about being criticized a bit? You earn a lot, why are you whining again? You’d have to put up with at least that much, ahem” And JHope said also in the same track “Someone gets hurt at someone’s actions. Someone becomes gloomy at someone’s speech and behavior. Someone’s spur of the moment becomes someone’s moment. Someone’s rage becomes someone’s life Damn.” Yes, forget the sleepless nights and the exhausted bodies running left and right. Their mental health was taking a blow. And some had to go to therapy.

Why do you think BTS made ‘SEA’ a masterpiece of a song that could have topped the charts where they talk about their doubts when they started getting noticed, when things started to change, when both worlds who ignored them finally saw them as walking gold… this song ended up being a hidden track (Only available and hidden in the CD album), meaning that only if you search for it you will find it. Only if you are an ARMY you will be aware of it. Because BTS knew that no one could relate to them but ARMYs, the only ones who were there when it rained and not only when the birds came out to sing. In SEA they said back in 2017: “In the end, we reached the mirage and it became our reality. The scary desert became the ocean with our blood, sweat and tears. But why is there this fear in between the happiness? Because we know too well that this place is really a desert” 

They thought that their fame back then wasn’t lasting. They felt the piercing stares and expectations of everyone and cried together behind closed doors then came out smiling the next day. No one saw the wounds hidden behind pretty clothes they wore. No one saw the gloomy shadow of worries that swallowed their thoughts when the stage’s lights got bigger. Until one day after they grasped their fears and decided that no matter what the end might look like they will keep walking… With crying faces they told us they almost stopped being ‘BTS’. ARMYs kinda knew it was hard on them… the fandom didn’t have it easy either. But the boys at the frontline took most blows without making a sound. Today… they decided to fight. For them and for us. In ‘Louder Than Bombs’ they tell ARMYs: “Where’s my way? The ground keeps quaking. I collapse on my own, mute. Louder than bombs, yeah. I want to tell you, that darkness exists everywhere, don’t be afraid of it. Whatever night may swallow me, I won’t give up. The fight for you, we’ll shine. You and I, we feel it together. Sadness and pain. It’s not a coincidence. Yeah, we picked this game”

Why are BTS so humble? Because they have a leader who think like modern day ‘Socrates’ and members who are more mature than what is shown on air. They know that once they sold their soul completely to fame, that nothing will be left of them and that it’s ‘THEM’ that makes us ready to change the world. Why are BTS and ARMY so close? Because we only had each other since the start. Why are BTS so different? Because the road they had to walk in was from the start something exclusive yet unyielding. Why are BTS sad even after achieving incredible things? Because they feel like they will never be enough. What was given so effortlessly to many, they always had to slog away for it before the show is over, the lights get turned off and the crowd decides to go home. Why does this clip hits hard? Because… actually I will not answer this one. The answer should be clear by now. I will just let you feel the heaviness that it makes you feel.

JHOPE

The dance leader of BTS is naturally an astounding dancer but also, a bewildering producer and performer. An all-rounder handsome man that oozes charisma and killer presence on stage.  

HOBI

The cutest, most precious existence to ever reside earth. He evolved beyond human nature and uses his own language. Some call is ‘noises’ and ‘screams’, intellectuals call it ‘therapeutic melody’. 

JAY

He is on hiatus right now but you will catch him outside S. Korea mostly. You never know what to expect but you are sure to be wrecked. He is not hot, he is magma. 

HOBAE

No bae is like Hobae. He is 100% boyfriend material. Attractive, attentive, cute dimples and a sweet smile, he will make you see beautiful dreams the eyes open and turn your world into a fluff AU.

HOBERTO/HUMBERTO

His parents are Korean but his soul is a Spaniard. He likes to go out to dancing, but not always dances flamenco. The name Humberto means Bright and is of Spanish origin. Just play some reggaeton, and he will walk in to the center of the room to move.

His fans are h0es but he is the BIGGEST h0e. He doesn’t need someone to drop it low because he will be the one making love to the floor. No limits. No boundaries. No sanity. Human nature gets thrown and the animal gets released. 

JDOPE

If you wear it you look like a clown. If he wears it, it’s a new trend. He is so cool and he knows it. He is not into flexing but his own existence is a flex. He is #1 in many people’s rob list. His watch collection alone, can feed 3 generations easily. 

JNOPE

The biggest coward you will ever meet. Forget horror movies, just say “boo” and he will yell for aliens to hear. Also, he has an allergy to bullsh*t so stay away if you full of cr*p. 

SUNSHINE

The sun in our skies is only there because he decided to live with mortals. A smile so bright but a personality even more dazzling. A true scintillating existence that brings joy whenever he walks in.

JUNG HOSEOK

A man who is expected to always be happy is still human, so he ends up hurting but rarely shows it. He trusts that hard work won’t ever betray him no matter what. He is very kind as he will give you a hug when he is the one who needs one the most. Yes, he is the kindest person you will meet, but don’t make him mad and it’s better to have him as a friend than an enemy. You have been warned. 

He is an amiable blessing and a real fantasy. Isn’t happiness what humans wish for the most? Well, his presence makes you think that merriness ain’t really out of reach. Because we know, that even if this land turns dark at night, all it needs is for the sun to rise the next day, for everyone to forget the gloominess of the past. He is indeed, a bright star that shines on our world.

Lee Hi ( 이하이) 'HOLO (홀로)' HERE

It’s a very comforting song. It shows overcoming pain and suffering and going towards self-love. It also describes loneliness in a beautiful way.

Some of my fav lyrics:  “Is it that important to compare who’s better between others and me or me and others. After countless nights of suffering. I finally get it now. I’m too precious to just sit around and worry. Take a look inside your heart without a cover. It’s okay to be yourself. It’s gotta stop.”

Bolbbalgan4 ‘To My Youth’ 나의 사춘기에게 HERE

It’s a song about defeating depression. But once those dark days were over so were the days that would never comeback. So was the youth that just went by in tears. It’s looking at ones past self and somehow pitying it and somehow being thankful it went by now.

Some of my fav lyrics (like all): “At some point, I used to wish I would disappear from this world. The whole world seemed so dark and I cried every night. Will I feel better if I just disappeared? I was so afraid of everyone’s eyes on me. During those beautifully beautiful days, I was in pain. I hated myself for not being able to receive love. My mom and my dad, they’re only looking at me. 10cm ‘HELP’ HERE

The MV for "Help" tells the story of people who are unsure of places in their lives, including a homosexual couple, a couple who's been divorced, an overweight woman who's a pessimist, and an   acute social withdrawal. (All of them are specified in the ending, so there's no guesswork going on.)

Hyukoh (혁오) - Wi Ing Wi Ing (위잉위잉) HERE

You know when you feel so low and like the world is mocking you. In this song they take an interesting way to describe it. It’s to the point were even the fly is mocking their situation.

My fav lyrics: “My legs are stumbling, stumbling as I walk. Another meaningless day is passing today. Love is just for all those who are the same. There’s nothing to make my heart flutter. Wiing wiing, goes the fruit fly. It flies far away as if it’s laughing at my sadness. Bing bing, the world spins. It squirms as if it’s laughing at me too.”

Zion T ‘Yanghwa BRDG’ HERE

This is one of the songs I always go back to. Jungkook sang this song with ZionT live too. This is a song of wishing well for people around you and realizing how our parents worked hard for us but back when we were younger we didn’t realize it.”

BLOO ’Downtown Baby’ HERE

This is a love song and it’s so catchy. I had on repeat for days and I still love it. It came out 2 years ago but it topped the charts again because a popular Korean singer named Lee Hyori sang it on a popular variety show. 

Fav lyrics: “Let's light a cigarette and talk all night long. Come to me when you're having a hard time. Wrap your skinny arms around me. Even if we hurting right now it’s alright... Your hands and feet are cold like always. That's why I told you to hug me quickly...You who couldn't drink alcohol met me. We bought wine. You who couldn't drink alcohol met me. My heart hurts.”

Urban Zakapa ‘I Don't Love You’ (널 사랑하지 않아) HERE

This is just such a beautiful song. The vocals and the lyrics just make even people with no hearts start feeling a beat in their chest. “I Don’t Love You,” a ballad whose lyrics express the complexity of relationships and love. Isn’t it insane how someone you loved more than yourself turn into something you care so little about someday? The lyrics express that feeling perfectly.  As for the music video and the song in combination are a haunting image of relationship complacency — not worth the fight and misery of breaking up, but maybe not happy enough to stay faithful.

Fav lyrics: “I don’t love you. I’m sure you already know. Even when I see you shedding tears. My heart doesn’t ache anymore.”

Gaho - ‘Stay Here’ HERE

His voice. HIS emotions. Do yourself a favor and go give this a listen. It’s a song about regretting past mistakes and wishing we never parted with a loved one while begging for them to stay.

Others' lives always seem better than ours. But no one can judge a life better than its owner. Even people who seem to lack nothing, probably wish for something that someone else took for granted. Being grateful is key because no matter how much you try, life is never going to offer you everything. It was never fair so why would you be the exception.
