And something comes for him, a weapon or a powerful spell, and Angus, sweet baby boy Angus, has no thoughts except for protect Taako, protect dad, and in a blast of magic that Taako knows isn’t the shield spell--he taught his little detective that spell ages ago, and it looked nothing like this. And then the smoke clears, and all Taako can see is silver, and yep, he’s clearly crossed over to the next plane of existence. Except his body still aches, and he’s distinctly aware of the soot from a well-placed fireball he hadn’t been able to doge and the air smells of ash and wet dog and whatever weird herbs Merle had coaxed to life that day. So he blinks once, twice, and the silver is still there. But his little detective is gone, and standing (or, rather, crouching) in Ango’s place is a dragon. A small one, a baby for sure, but a dragon. Teeth bared, eyes narrowed, hissing like the feral streetcat Taako pretends he doesn’t feed high quality tuna too every night before bed. Tail curled around Taako like the elf might try and run or fall over with the slightest breeze. 

And Taako just stares in awe, because his little boy just did one hell of a magic trick, and he sure as hell isn’t about to be shown up by his student.

Man I wish universal basic income was a thing so people could just leave jobs they’re unhappy at and wouldn’t have to worry about not affording their basic needs while they look for something new or so that people could actually explore their passion projects like only the rich and powerful can just take time off to write or work on art or go back to school and even if you’re having mental health problems you can’t just take an extended vacation a lot of places still don’t consider mental health as actual illness anyway fuck capitalism am i right brother?
