Thinking about Shishido again what else

Shishido tries to get Kiryu into being proud of his Dragon of Dojima legacy bc the power and influence that title carries is everything Shishido wants. It’s the same kind of gravity to rally yakuza members as Nishitani III has and Watase as Omi Chairman would have. Power to do what he wanted but more importantly, lead the people who are seen as left behind in the yakuza, the people with nowhere else to go like himself. That sense of camaraderie and companionship.

Kiryu rejects the suggestion bc he knows that legacy offers nothing of what he actually wants. It’s as he says to Shishido in their final showdown—the dreams of the yakuza mean nothing to the average person. Forming connections with people and taking care of them is something that can be found outside of the yakuza. Kiryu has it with his kids/the orphanage and the Dragon of Dojima legacy is the exact reason why he decided to fake his death and join the Daidoji, to prevent his legacy from getting back to the kids and harming them. (The double sided knife of power/influence to inspire people wherever you go and make revengeful enemies at the same time.)

Shishido had power and influence and control with where he was in the yakuza before he decided to throw a coup. He’s the one who invites the men that join for Operation Party Hardy and guides them the entire time. He says as much he’s living comfortably before the fight at the construction lot. And, though he blows it up and says he doesn’t give a shit about Tusruno, they’ve palled around together for a long time, even before Shishido started his plan, so he had a friend in him. However, in order to keep his dream alive he needed the kind of sway and legacy the Dragon of Dojima and Nishitani III has—he sought out the Omi Chairmanship to keep his life afloat.

His jealousy towards the people around him with even more power over others made him blow up what amount of control, influence, and companionship he had in his life at that point. He bet everything he had in his life on keeping the better life he had in the yakuza and lost it all. Kiryu prevented him from re-establishing the Omi, destroyed any sense of friendship with Tsuruno, and ended up in the hands of the Daidoji with Nishitani III—his abuser—again. Not only no longer being able to separate himself from Nishitani III anymore, he’s now forced to be ‘tamed’ by the Daidoji. (He specifically wonders to Kiryu about how the Daidoji tamed him—that wording.)

Bottom line can we free Shishido and Kiryu from the Daidoji in Y8 :(
