The loud slap of waves below filled the thick silence where you sat at the edge of the cliff. Far ahead of you, stretching into an endless expanse of dark blue, the sun set, sky tinged in lush blues, pinks, and purples. An odd discontent washes over you as you stare, face a carefully neutral mask, your eyes the only tell of your brooding. So much had changed. You'd seen things you had once thought you never would, been through harrowing experiences that left scars both mental and physical. It was so strange now, this quiet. To think, you'd been so used to it before, alone at your old home in the woods.

Your contemplation is broken by the looming presence of a tall figure behind you. Glancing up, you meet scarlet and ebony eyes, their gaze locking with yours. Without a word, Moon sat beside you, settled close, but allowing you your space. "Feeling better?" he inquires in a soft murmur. The answer is fairly obvious, you think, but Moon is careful like that, never too hasty, not since his initial banishment.

You hum assurance, lost to the horizon once more. It's almost funny, in a way. The first time you'd actually seen the ocean, it had left you anxious, the endless expanse, so large and deep it threatened to swallow you whole. Now, water ablaze in the early evening sun, you find content, and an unusual sense of hope in the end of an old day giving way to a new night. No longer being alone helps.

You allow yourself to flop sideways, leaning on Moon for support. He stiffens in shock for a moment at the unexpected contact, but swiftly softens again, one of his wings moving to wrap around your back. You'd always found them to be such pretty, fascinating things, twinkling with stars like the night sky was starting to above, fiery ball of light finally sinking beneath blackening waves. Moonlight bathes in its stead, streaking the water silver of an almost completely swollen moon.

Besides you, your partner watches the change, heavy with thought.

"It's beautiful," you break the silence to snap him out of out, much like he did for you. Looking at you, Moon follows your prompt when you dip your head towards the view.

"Yes," he eventually responds, tone hard to read. You can spot a smidgen of true admiration in his dark eyes, though. You wonder what he sees when he looks out over the Earth's ocean. He had lived beside such an incredible expanse in the Celestial Realm, always glimmering with the realm's overflowing magic. Was it different because of nostalgia? Or was it finally being able to see it again, after all those years?

Your questions must be clear on your face, because he lets loose a light sigh, focusing entirely on you. "The ocean here is so different. In the Celestial Realm, things rarely ever change, never move. On Earth, though, the tide is constant, always bringing new things, sometimes taking it back. It is a cycle. One I never imagine I'd miss so much."

The last part is low, almost unheard by yourself, a twinge of sympathy shooting through you. On instinct, your hand raises from where it settles on the rock, smoothing along his round face, past his cheek. Startled, Moon blushes the slightest blue, gaze shifting from melancholy to adoring.

"You're here, too," he mutters. "And that makes it all the better, no matter where we are," he admits, flush deepening. You smile, endeared. He always did find it hard to express himself, with his gentler side, at least. Leaning up, lifting yourself on stone slightly wet from sea spray, you give him a peck on the lips. He freezes like a deer in cross sights, taking a moment before returning the gesture. After a stretch of time you're unsure of, you eventually part, foreheads leaning together, his wing tightening a smidge to bring you closer. Below, the water shimmers in soft, icy ripples.

You always did love moonlight on water, much like the one who provides it.

May I propose a theory after the previous chapter?

The reason why y/n's magic is active now and not back when they lived at the castle was because they had a near death experience. Cause their soul almost crossed to the other side, it opened up her access to her crimson melody that was previously shut away.

I could guess their parents wanted you dead because it would deny Eclipse from having them. But I would think Eclipse would purposely try to kill you to jumpstart the magic inside them for his own purpose.

Also, it doesn't help that this mysterious orb is calling out to them now.
