Some one needs to point out that how skilled and strong Emma Carstairs is. In Fever it states that cordelia was excited to practise with lucie as she for the first time was able to wield cortana at 14.

Like Emma use to practise with it since the age of 10, of course she wasn't able to use wield it right away but by the time she was 12 she could fully use it. Cortana was still too big for her but she was able to fight with it in the dark war. Do realize how strong you have to be for that?
