THIS IS SUCH A GOOD QUESTION!!! (answering this as if they told their parents they were dating)

cal’s parents: cal’s parents would be strange about it. they would promise that they approve but be kind of distant at the same time. everytime andre would come over, they’d subtly avoid him. cal would tell andre it’s not a big deal, that his family has always been christian and it’ll take a bit for them to understand. his mom would meet with the pastor of the church she and mr. gabriel go to. there would be a night where cal goes into his parents’ room and breaks down, telling them how he wishes they would just acknowledge it and give him a direct response. his parents would hold him while he cries and realize that the best thing they could do is accept their son. the next time they see andre, they give him a hug as well. every time they remember the sight of their son broken and in tears in their arms, a pang of guilt hits them.

andre’s parents: andre’s dad would act like andre never told him anything. the only thing he’d do is stop bothering andre about a girlfriend. he wouldn’t really understand and would probably blame cal a bit at first, but then he’d get over it after talking with mrs. kriegman and cal’s parents. whenever cal is over, he wouldn’t treat him differently. he’s always treated the younger boy like a third son and doesn’t see a reason to change that especially since cal and andre are even closer than he thought. andre’s mom, on the other hand, would be enthusiastic. he’d give andre the biggest bear hug after he tells her and she’d do the same to cal the next time she saw him. she’s the type of mom to leave a box of condoms on andre’s nightstand with a sticky note that says “be careful!! xx.”
