(I haven't been able to watch the newest ep yet, but I've seen a few gifs and it's so funny to me that this has happened twice.)

Same! Already feels like an underrated song of the season tbh and when I get a car it's going on a driving playlist for sure.

(The only thing that I can't figure out about its placement in the show is... did Ricky write the song in-universe? Is it implied that some guy on the radio has the exact same voice as him? Because hsmtmts usually goes out of its way to establish that the songs are being sung in-universe or it's very obvious that it's a music video like granted or second chances. It's just so funny to me how unclear it is with finally free.)

Why are we treating Kourtney’s anxiety and EJ’s anxiety SO differently?

Kourtney’s worried about bombing on stage, she gets a literal chorus of supportive sisters to help her climb the literal and metaphorical wall.

EJ is worried about his ENTIRE LIFE imploding, and he gets snarky comments from Ricky about how everyone knows he’s stressed, Carlos (who knows the stress of putting on a show) telling him to “just do it at night,” and literally NO ONE just taking the damn script away at the prom. Gina knew exactly where to find him after the last dance, why didn’t she go look for him DURING it? Where is the close relationship he and Ashlyn have had for years? Why is his arc just about “wow, he’s fucking up everywhere”? 

YES, EJ made mistakes. YES, he’s terrible at reaching out and asking for help. So was Kourtney. But she got support, and EJ didn’t. And I think Kourtney DESERVED the help! But why didn’t EJ?

To be clear, this isn’t about the Portwell breakup. I think Gina has some very valid points about them being in different places and feeling unsure about the future, and all those feelings are incredibly valid and real. I think they came a bit out of nowhere and wish we’d been actually addressing those issues all season instead of these GIGANTIC external factors that they keep dropping onto this couple, so it felt a bit unearned, but that part isn’t the problematic part for me.

I CAN’T get behind the way the narrative has treated EJ and diminished what HIS experience of anxiety has been time and time again.

It feels like a very gendered lens on mental health, honestly, and I’m not here for it. 

I was wondering if you could please help with an annoying issue I can't seem to get rid of. When I'm making a polygon layout on a transparent background no matter whether I use mask or shapes I can't make this weird white outlines on the gifs disappear.

hey! so the reason you get those white outlines is because photoshop is trying to compensate for the “semi-transparent” pixels in your gif. anything that’s a perfectly straight line (horizontal or vertical) doesn’t need this. but diagonal and rounded lines will create semi-transparent pixels to sort of soften the edges. see here:

so, when you go to export your gif — a format that can’t classify semi-transparency — photoshop compensates by making that pixel fully opaque, hence the white pixels

for the most part, gifmakers either let it be and deal with the white pixels or they completely “harden” the line. by that, i mean they remove all the semi-transparent pixels which, in turn, can create a more jagged line — but without compromising the transparency. i hope that makes sense!

RICKY & GINA S03E06: Color War

I still stand by my opinion that Ricky should stay single this season, and I still ship portwell. HOWEVER, I cannot deny that I am now intrigued with the Rina storyline, despite my reservations, bcs I think that it can do a lot for Ricky's character development. I would hope to see Ricky come to terms with his feelings for Gina, but decide to take a step back not just for her, but for himself as well. Like I said, I think he deserves a season of self discovery, and for him to not get involved in messy relationship drama again after everything. Seeing him take a step back for the sake of both their happiness is definitely a step up from season 1 Ricky, and shows that he's choosing himself first above everyth. (There's a post I saw talking about how this would be an improvement from season 1 Ricky, I'll repost it if I can find it again).

I would also want to see the portwell break up happen naturally, and not because Gina wants to run back to Ricky. Gina is happy in her relationship right now, even though there are issues rising, she's even thinking abt love. It is completely unjust to her character to suddenly drop her first relationship that has real feelings and go to Ricky after a few episodes. And again, I really don't want to see ej lose a girl to Ricky AGAIN. IF they are going to break up, I want to see it happen because they are in different places in their lives, on different pages, and ultimately decide to end things before they resent each other. Gina will need a proper amount of time to get over her heartbreak, before she can even consider having feelings for Ricky again.

Essentially, while I wish for a portwell endgame, if the Rina storyline is treated properly, I honestly don't think I'd mind a Rina endgame in future seasons (after I get over my initial disappointment). Just as long as it's not rushed now that Nini is out of the picture, and all the characters involved are done justice.
