This Felt Like The Beginning Of An Apology. And Yet, It Felt Too Little As So Many Words Were Still Lodged

“This felt like the beginning of an apology. And yet, it felt too little as so many words were still lodged inside of Mu Qing’s throat.”

I dedicate my first watercolor painting to @luckymoonly.

fengqing kisses fengqing kisses!! 18 or 31 💗💗

Thanks for the ask! I got really silly with this one, but I hope you like it! :) #31 a kiss after a small rejection

Feng Xin gasps, looking so horrified you’d think someone had shot his dog right in front of him.

Mu Qing just rolls his eyes.

“This is what we’re gonna do now?”

Feng Xin pouts—really and truly pouts—and crosses his arms as he turns away from Mu Qing. It’s hard to do, by the way, because there’s not much room in their cramped apartment and they’re sitting literally less than an arm’s distance from each other on their shitty couch.

“I can’t believe you wouldn’t love me if I was a worm.”

Mu Qing groans, the frustration settling down in his toes and making his feet cramp.

“I swear to god—you know I don’t like bugs. I literally wouldn’t love any worm.”

“But!” Feng Xin turns back to Mu Qing, absolutely distraught. “Not even if it was me?”

“No,” Mu Qing says matter-of-factly, staring Feng Xin right in the eye, his face neutral.

Feng Xin is only acting this needy because it’s just the two of them alone in their apartment. He would never pull something like this in front of their friends. It makes Mu Qing’s heart ache with overwhelming fondness, not that he’d let anyone know that. Especially not the sweet sap that’s currently sitting in front of him.

Feng Xin’s pout deepens and he furrows his eyebrows.

“Oh, I see how it is.”

With a hmph, Feng Xin turns his back to Mu Qing completely, his arms crossed and his head tilted very deliberately to conceal his expression.

Mu Qing sighs, staring for a few moments at Feng Xin’s back, before he readjusts himself on the couch and unmutes the TV.

The show they were watching was something Feng Xin picked out (Mu Qing isn’t even sure what it’s about) so he’s confident Feng Xin will come to his senses soon and free himself from his self-imposed banishment.

But a minute passes.

And then five.

And then ten minutes have passed, the current episode has ended, and Feng Xin has still not turned back around.

Mu Qing is starting to feel like maybe he is the banished one in this situation.

“Feng Xin?” he tries, leaning to the side to see if he can get a glimpse of Feng Xin’s face, but the other man expertly avoids him.

Mu Qing frowns and turns the TV off. He angles himself so his body is completely facing Feng Xin’s back.

“A-Xin…” he pleads, trying still to get a look at his boyfriend’s face and still ending up unsuccessful.

Feng Xin seems to cross his arms even tighter, his head held high and remaining as stony as ever.

“Baby,” Mu Qing says softly, still not quite over the embarrassment he feels when using such an intimate nickname.

This gets Feng Xin to turn to him, just slightly. His ear is pointed in Mu Qing’s direction but his eyes, still, are not.

“Hm?”

Mu Qing usually isn’t one to initiate physical touch, so it’s with an unpracticed hand that he gently reaches out to touch Feng Xin’s shoulder.

“I’m sorry.”

Mu Qing waits for a moment that feels like it lasts a lifetime, until Feng Xin finally looks all the way back at him. He’s got a twinkle in his eye that captivates Mu Qing like nothing else.

“You’re sorry?” Feng Xin says slowly, like maybe he misheard Mu Qing. Mu Qing just nods and holds Feng Xin’s eye contact, determined to keep it now that he has it again.

“Yes. I’m sorry, baby.”

His face is hot from using the nickname again (twice! in one night! That’s gotta be a record.)

Feng Xin looks him up and down and cocks an eyebrow. Mu Qing sees his lips twitch, surely holding back a smirk, and wonders what exactly he’s gotten himself into.

“Prove it.”

Mu Qing can’t help but give Feng Xin a pleading look, but Feng Xin is dead serious and is not backing down. The smirk he was holding back has now unfurled in full force. The two of them really are perfect for each other, evenly matched in almost every aspect of life, but this is especially true when it comes to their stubbornness.

Mu Qing sighs heavily, knowing better than to fight a fight he knows he’s going to lose.

“Regular price? Or is my crime so egregious that I owe extra?”

“Oh, you definitely owe extra.” Mu Qing sighs and closes his eyes. Yeah, he should have seen that one coming.

With his pride still wounded and bleeding, Mu Qing leans back against the arm of the couch and looks Feng Xin in the eye as he holds his arms open.

Grinning from ear to ear, Feng Xin happily obliges, damn near suffocating Mu Qing as he lays his entire body weight on top of him. Mu Qing groans, but he enjoys this much more than he lets on. He wraps an arm around Feng Xin and gently holds his face with his free hand. He pets Feng Xin’s hair in smooth, sweeping motions and can’t help but smile back at the gorgeous man who beams up at him.

Mu Qing takes a deep breath to steel himself and then finally gives in.

“Alright, start counting.”

He can feel Feng Xin’s laughter just as much as he can hear it and he feels dizzy with love for him.

He presses the first kiss, light and gentle, right in the middle of Feng Xin’s forehead. The next kisses belong to Feng Xin’s freckled cheeks, and then his long, straight nose. Slowly—lovingly—Mu Qing peppers kiss after kiss all over every inch of that handsome face until both men are giggling, smiling messes and neither of them can remember where they left off counting.
