I'm sorry if you're tired of thinking about ofmd and that whole mess but goddamn... it's incredibly painful to see so many people trying to set up fundraisers to get their families out of gaza and the sudan and desperately trying to get their loved ones to safety, I've seen so many and everyday I check to see how much progress they've made, most of them still haven't hit their goal. It hurts to see people rally around a tv show and raise all this money for a billboard, and it's very frustrating to see how people have reacted to this criticism. Like bro tv shows get canceled sometimes there's more important stuff going on
Someone else said it better but to see a fundraiser for tv show renewal advertisements raise $20,000 in less than a day while it takes days/weeks/months/years/never for fundraisers for actual causes that help real people in need reach a goal of less is absolutely dystopian and shameful
THIS IS TRUE… really cockatoo is my only theriotype and it has been really isolating seeing so few others like me
I do want to compile my thoughts about the neglected "birdkin" theriotypes that always seem to take a back seat to what you might consider the person's primary or main theriotype, but I want to be able to do this without condemning anyone or suggesting that they're faking or whatever. Yes I have read Akhila's essay on the topic from the pov of a polytherian with a bird phenotype. It's just that I do often see a lack of engagement with the avian side of things if it's experienced alongside a mammalian type, right down to the use of "birdkin" as an umbrella term when nobody would do the same with mammals.
For many people, birds are the primary way humans experience nature & wildlife, but at the same time birds are made so anonymous and unappreciated, people listen to Birdsong but not the song of the blackbird or mistle thrush, see these darting shapes in the air and think little of them, etc. I wonder if crows and ravens are very popular theriotypes among bird people simply because of the outsized cultural baggage attached to them compared to others (similar to wolves) that makes them more recognisable to a layperson.
I'm not very articulate about this now but it's also very funny how all this back and forth about quadrobics and You Don't Need To Do Quads To Be Valid is defeated so simply by telling people that you're bipedal, actually.
