a/n: this just came to me really randomly… i’m not sure what it is or what it means (tbh I wrote it bc I couldn’t sleep), but it sprung forth from the emotions I have surrounding the enl*stment news as well as anticipation for Jin’s new single. It’s a lot, and different than what I usually write, but I hope you give it a chance <3 thanks to Mars @joheunsaram​ for reading it over for me!!

The red gleam of the digital clock casts an strange glow against the metal walls of the ship, the seconds ticking by. For something that once held the utmost significance, it remains woefully ignored now, the inevitable continuity of time seeming a sharp contrast to the stillness that exists outside the window. Stars ripple against the black curtain of fabric of the galaxy that  Seokjin floats through, their twinkling the only thing that reminds him that he’s still alive.

Sighing, he glances towards the clock for the first time in months, his body freezing when he sees how much time has gone by. 

5 years. On the dot. The time lingers for a second on the screen, and then, just like that it’s gone, reminding Seokjin of why he never used to look at it in the first place. 5 years of solitude. 5 years of loneliness. A desperate pang rips through him, and he struggles for air, his breaths labored and heavy despite knowing there’s unlimited oxygen on the ship.

Staring at the window, the luminescent glow of the foreign planet taunts him, and he can see the violent maelstrom that has begun to brew on the surface. Breathing a sigh of relief, he thanks the stars that he’s not in the middle of it, having already left the surface the moment he’d found nothing but a barren landscape.

Chapter One 

Jin sighs, glancing at the tipped vase. Three lillies hang off the edge of the table. A gust of wind from his open window had knocked them over. He reaches out his hand to prop them up, but hesitates. What if this time I didn’t touch them? What would happen then? I have to shut that damn window next time. He thinks to himself.

Jin sighs again and going against his logic, picks them up and puts them back in place. He feels the air move around him. It’s happening again. He closes his eyes.

He’s standing at a cafe window, looking into the cafe. He pulls his arm through the other sleeve of his brown jumper. I should have gotten dressed properly first, before touching the flowers. He thinks to himself. Jin closes his eyes and focuses his hearing. As expected, he hears the bell jingle as the cafe doors open. He turns his head to his right and sees you step out of the cafe.

Oblivious to the tall man at the cafe window, you turn right and walk towards him. You’re not looking where you are walking, instead focusing on your phone as you scroll through your playlist. You bump into him.

Four times. You had bumped into him four times. All four times it happened exactly the same. Jin wasn’t sure why of late, he kept travelling here, to this moment. He also had no idea of what potential significance you posed to him.

You were strangers, although by this time he had figured you enjoyed listening to music, liked to wear comfortable shoes and had a penchant for paying zero attention to your surroundings. Inferences, all of them.

It had been like this for the past year. He wasn’t sure if it was a wish gone astray or if it was a curse.
