One thing I get asked a lot is "Why is always Ukraine with you?" and I'd like to answer that as best as can now.

For context I'm not Ukrainian. I'm American. But I have been closing following this war ever since the full scale invasion in 2022. People in my life have noticed it's a big thing for me know and my support for Ukriane has caused more than one... disagreement.

It's actually very simple. I don't have any high minded ideas about NATO or the EU.

I care because a nation and a culture are being destroyed and hundreds of thousands of people are dying and being injured because Russia won't fuck off.

Because in 2014 Russia waltzed in and annexed a piece of land roughly the size of BELGIUM, and they were sent night vision goggles and blankets by Obama.

Because Ukrainian children are being abducted, given Russian names, moved to Russian families and forced to speak Russian.

I care because there's a nation of people bleeding in the fields of their homeland RIGHT NOW in order to try and stop that madness. Trying to forge a better life for themselves and their children.

I don't care about Russia crying about NATO expansion, or their access to warm water ports or any of that bullshit because it's not Russias decision what happens to Ukriane and for that matter it's not the west's choice either. It's up to UKRIANE if they want to join NATO, or the EU. It's up to UKRIANE to negotiate UKRAINIAN Foreign and domestic policy without worrying what some tinpot dictator in Moscow thinks.

So people can sit there and ask "why is it always Ukraine with you" but then they turn around and talk about " america bad, something something Iraq war" but when ACTAUL IMPERIALIST AGRESSION happens right in front of you.... you don't give a shit because war and politics are messy and this situation doesn't give you the chance to feel good and "own the libs" or whatever side of the political bullshit spectrum you identify with.

If you're confused, don't know anything about Russia's war on Ukraine, and aren't sure which information to trust, you should know at least one thing:

Everything - everything - you see professionally filmed from within the Russian army, or that comes from Russian-annexed territories of Ukraine, must be approved by the Kremlin. A journalist or filmmaker cannot gain access to Russian-controlled areas without a green light from the Kremlin. Even if it seems apolitical or oppositional, even if the creators claim to be against Putin - if they were able to film professionally or over an extended period within Russian-controlled spaces, they got permission. Please keep that in mind.

With the release of Jerry Heil's music video All Eyes On Kids, there is a bit more awareness about the abducted Ukrainian children by russia. Someone qoute-tweeted a post about this, and shared that they were shocked to only find out about this and how no one was seemingly talking about it.

And that's the thing: people are talking about it, but by far not enough people care about it. That makes it incredibly hard for news about Ukraine to leave the already established pro-Ukraine bubbles on social media.

It's like people think because Ukraine receives aid from the West that everything is now fine and dandy and under control. But that isn't true. russia is still bombing Ukraine every day. russia is still holding and torturing Ukrainian POW's. russia is still holding thousands of Ukrainian children captive. Ukraine is still not allowed to strike russian targets with western weapons from the US and Germany.

And russian propaganda still has a massive grip over people in the West. Making people believe that russians are just "poor unfortunate souls, forced to fight a war that they don't want". Instead of what they really are: willingly murders, rapists, terrorists, torturers.

Hi. That's a tricky question. If I answer yes, then people who do still care will be upset. When in frustration I write that no one cares, there are always people in the notes telling me that they do care very much. These people exist, of course. But most of them have either friends or family from Ukraine, or have Ukrainian roots themselves. There are always exceptions, but they are few and far between. It also depends on the country. I have the impression that people from the Baltic states and some neighboring countries still do care about Ukraine. It's a war close to their home, they risk becoming russia's next victim, and most of them have suffered from russia before.

The fact that fewer and fewer people care with each passing year is not surprising. The shock factor from seeing bombed apartments and flattened cities wears off quickly, it gets old, becomes a new normal. As we always knew it would. Since it's not news anymore, most of it doesn't make it to the mainstream media, you have to actively search for the war updates rather than seeing them everywhere.

Popular posts from the far-left where they compare Russia to Israel illustrate really well just how little people know about this genocide, about the russian invasion. How little they want to know. They write something like "imagine if russia did THIS in Ukraine, there would be immediate international outrage and brutal repercussions!!!", while in reality russia has been doing THIS and worse the whole time, not just since 2022, but much earlier, and not only in Ukraine. Some people close their eyes and cover their ears to live in this fantasy where russia can do no wrong, and if it did, it would have been punished for it. While I was typing all this, I thought - why bother? You can simply look at my (or blogs similar to mine) recent posts about this genocide, look at the number of notes, but most importantly, see how many of those who reblogged are my fellow Ukrainians. The majority. It wasn't like that in the first six or so months of the invasion. So yes, people care very little, but I can't blame the whole world for that or else I'll go insane.

I have currently only a few hours of electricity a day and I waste the time answering depressing questions or thinking how to answer them. *sigh*

Russia attacked Kharkiv with controlled aerial bombs and hit a residential building. As of now, 40 people are known to be wounded, 20 of whom are in extremely serious condition, and 5 people are killed. One of them is a 14-year-old girl.
