I made a cover page for my current fanfic project.

Since I apparently roped you into the Gareth fanclub but his time on Bloodbound seems to be over: do you have any Gareth headcanons you wanted to add to your fic, but couldn’t do so? Also more Gareth headcanons in general?

Ah I actually kinda feel bad... I was making things up as I went. I wasn't too sure what to do with his character. Started to flesh things out as I went. (Like Therion I didn't think much out beyond the initial I-want-to-save-him). Wound up trying to go for a timid bean who's not accustomed to kindness from others for the base for his character- he's been doing what he can to keep his head down and himself alive. (The caravan he grew up in got devastated in a monster attack, which was how he wound up alone in the first place.)

*looks at next chapter, looks at time*

Did some sketches of Craving from Bloodbound. Horrible demon turned into a giant goober...

So, about the Gareth Lives AU: I’m currently writing a fic about it, actually! I sometimes will post progress updates that are mostly me screaming, but if everything go as I plan, I should be posting the first chapter on Ao3 this weekend. If you aren’t on the mood to wait, Bloodbound is a Vampire Therion/Alfyn AU where Gareth gets spared!

If you want specific Gareth headcanons, I’m also happy to provide! Although I… may have too many of them and some of them are incredibly self-indulgent =v= I try to base most of them in the few bits of Gareth official art we have and my own interpretation that Gareth is a mirror for Therion and extrapolate from there, but here’s some stuff I like:

He and Therion are the same age (22).

He’s from the Woodlands - more specific, he was born in a small village in the forest, but grew up in Victor’s Hollow.

He was a part of Cianno’s group, which is how he met Darius. He didn’t have much relevance back in the day, but Darius saw that he had talent and made him his right hand man — similar to how Darius decided to use Therion when they were children.

However Gareth’s use for Darius is completely different from Therion’s — Therion was a thief, plain and simple, while Gareth ends up playing the part of an assassin, bodyguard and lieutenant.

In that note, Gareth didn’t become a thief by choice, but rather due circumstances completely out of his control and was forced to join Cianno’s group.

For someone who’s completely self-taught, Gareth is an incredibly competent mage (his magic attack is an AoE spell, which only the more magical-inclined party members natively learn). I actually have several headcanons of how magic works in Orsterra that I could share if anyone is interested!

(Related Gareth being from the Woodlands: my reasoning behind it is actually due the fact that his fire spell is called Will-o’-Wisp and the most likely place for ignis fatuus to happen in Orsterra are the Woodlands.)

Related to the official art of Therion, Darius and Gareth recently released: Gareth knows how play the guitar or the lute. Maybe he would become a bard if his life was any different?
