OUGH Zeph and Alfyn running away together and then Zeph being one of the ones lost to the trap. Yes. Perfect angst. (That said, there’s also the sheer trauma of Alfyn losing everyone he cares about not ONCE but TWICE.) (Both options are a major blow for him poor Alfyn)

Specifically, Alfyn and Zeph, and just how important a role they are in each other's lives. They grew up together, they're the same age- Alfyn likely supported Zeph after he lost his parents. Zeph likely supported Alfyn after the death of his mom. Him and Zeph being so close is likely how Alfyn was able to pursue medicine in the first place, as Zeph's late father was the town's apothecary.

And if something were to happen to Zeph while they were growing up, if he died or even moved away like Mercedes did, well... Alfyn would struggle. Heck even in game Zeph serves as his lifeline in his darkest hour.

Or maybe the plague got Zeph's parents too and he was untouched! Maybe they went to Saintsbridge and joined the Red Hoods together. Maybe he was the one who told Alfyn to run and keep the gang alive while the others died at the hands of the Ciannos. who knows. maybe its this one actually it feels a lot punchier than 'he died/moved away lol'

Applying for jobs is a hell designed specifically to torment autistic people. Here is a well-paying task which you know in your heart and soul if they just gave you a desk and left you alone and allowed you to do it you would sit there and be more focused and enthusiastic and excellent at it than anyone else in the building. However, before they allow you to perform the task, you must pass through 3-4 opaque social crucibles where you must wear uncomfortable clothes and make eye contact while everyone expects you to lie, but not too much (no one is ever clear exactly how much lying is expected, “over” honesty is however penalized). You are being judged almost entirely on how well you understand these very specific and unclear rules that no one has explained. None of this has anything to do with your ability to perform the desired task.
