Weird asks: 7, (can you swim) 28, (an unusual song that's your favorite,) and 32 (do you write better with a pen or a pencil)?
7: Can you swim?
I can! Thinking about this gave me a mild existential crisis about how long it's been since I've been swimming. Someday I'll find somewhere to cliff jump into the water; that's always sounded like a ton of fun.
28: An unusual song that's your favorite
If "unusual" is meant in the sense of "not well known (yet)", To Love As You so Loved by @jacleenill is honestly one of my favorites ever. There's a lot of songs out there I love, but in terms of being beautiful, important, and running through my head when I'm having a hard day, that's one of the best. <3 If it's meant in the sense of the song itself being unusual in some way, I think the Marble Machine music is super neat! Engineering + art, YES. Some others I like are on this playlist!
32: Do you write better with a pen or a pencil?
...Going to test that, aaand—
I like the feel of a pen better, but my letters generally come out cleaner-looking with a pencil. Also, putting it on my to-do list to practice my penmanship a little more. A friend recently gave me permission to incorporate the super pretty way she writes a couple letters into my handwriting, which I both love the concept of and am excited to do.
For the ask meme: 18, 24, 39!! ^^
18. Do you play video games?
I do! I'm not a very gamer-y gamer, but if a game has a good story and characters I love, and/or is just lots of fun, it's easy for me to get invested. Some of my favorites over the years have been Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom (just... the sheer themes of "finding beauty in the midst of tragedy" and love in that game 😭), Stardew Valley (breaking: local girl who lives on farm sometimes forgets she should go outside and actually produce actual farm products for actual money), LEGO Lord of the Rings (childhood classic, still hilarious), and honestly way too many lemonade stand-type business games. Bonus points if the latter involve a creative aspect, like building a zoo or making pizzas.
24. What have you learned about yourself?
Something I've noticed about myself that's helped a lot is that even if I don't feel like doing something that's good for me, if I push myself to do it, I'll feel a lot better in the end. I used to mostly avoid social situations if I had the chance—but I noticed that when I did go, nine times out of ten I had fun, and I could tell I was learning how to hold enjoyable conversations and getting more comfortable with hanging out with people. Kind of basic adulting stuff, but it made a huge difference in my self-confidence, and it helped me to feel a lot better about myself in general!
39: Are there wise words you live by?
The first quote that came to mind is one of my favorite Bible verses! “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8, KJV) I've always loved things that have those traits, so it's encouraging to be reminded that it's good to focus on them.
The second is one of my all-time favorite stories, about the Boy and the Starfish. According to the Wikipedia rabbit hole I just fell down, it was originally a much longer piece called The Star Thrower—but the version I remember is one I read in a shortened/adapted form years ago. It tells of an old man who was walking along a beach where the tide had washed in thousands of starfish, which were now stranded for miles on the hot sand. He felt sorrowful that such a thing would happen to them, but knew he couldn't save all the starfish, so he kept walking. He came upon a boy who was frantically throwing starfish back into the water.
"There are so many; you can't possibly save them all," the man reasoned. "Or even enough to make a difference. What does throwing them back matter?"
The boy paused with a starfish in his hands. He looked at it, then smiled. "It matters to this one," he said, hurling the starfish back into the sea.
I loved the reminder that if something matters to even one person, it does make a difference, and it's worth it.

@confetti-cat yes, Bat-Cow is an actual character from the comics!
She first appeared during a mission that took place in a slaughterhouse. Damian Wayne, who has a soft spot for animals, found her there and decided to keep her.
(Lot of blood in the panel below, sorry.)

(Batman Incorporated 2012 #1)
So she becomes a fixture in the Batcave for a while, along with Damian's dog, Titus, and his cat, Alfred (not to be confused with Alfred the human, his namesake :P ).

(Batman Incorporated 2012 #6, 9, 7, 13 / Detective Comics #1033 / Batman and Robin 2011 #40 / Robin: Son of Batman #1, 10)
Damian proudly shows her off to Jon Kent (son of Clark and Lois) whenever they first meet. Jon, who lives on a farm, raises some concerns about her being kept in a cave.

(Superman 2016 #10)
But she's also seen in pasture and living in a barn (see both panels below).
She doesn't do much, but every once in a while she'll have a day in the limelight. Like the time she manages to foil a kidnapping by standing in the road wearing a cape, or her work with other pets and animals of superheroes.

(Batman Incorporated Special #1 / Super Sons Annual #1)
One of her notable traits is her stoicism. She will observe drama all around her with no more than a simple "Moo."

(Superman 2016 #10)
Despite her small role, she lends color to the world and is important to Damian's character development--demonstrating that he is capable of both compassion and principle.
Headcanons for the gang's favorite autumn activities?
Rapunzel's is decorating, for sure! She loves the riot of colors of the changing leaves, and how starkly they stand out against a grey sky. She'll start with generic autumn decorations that will gradually get spookier as October picks up steam, then dials back to autumnal in early November.
Eugene's is fall fashion. He loves breaking out the stylish coats and boots that look oh-so-classy. (Plus, he likes staying warm as the air starts to take on a chill.)
Lance's is trick-or-treating and the whole Halloween phenomenon. He likes getting free candy and pranking people, but he's also come to really enjoy giving candy away, too. It's kind of nice to be secure enough that handing out treats doesn't mean he has to go without.
Kiera and Catalina love going to scare mazes. The actors never really frighten them, but sometimes Catalina transforms into her wolf form to scare them back, anyway. It's a riot!
Varian's is concocting hot drink recipes. From hot chocolate to spiced apple cider to coffee with flavored syrups, he enjoys not only coming up with delicious drinks, but sharing them with his friends and family.
Cassandra quietly enjoys dressing up for Halloween, especially if it includes a mask. Being able to go out into the town and just be herself without judgement it extremely freeing for her.
Thanks for the ask!

a particularly foggy morning is the start of a uniquely interesting day

Batcow
Okay, as an individual from an agricultural area, I tend to get really nit-picky about how livestock is represented in media. So it’s always bothered me that Batcow (or Bat-Cow) has been identified at least once as a Jersey cow.
Here’s a picture of Batcow.

And here’s a Jersey cow.

The breed is typically solid brown, with lighter coloring on the legs and face, but no white patches. Sure, Batcow could be a mix breed of a Jersey and Holstein (below), as that would have given her her white patches.

However, Holsteins are a tall breed and Batcow is a relatively short cow. See how she compares to Jon and Damian.

Also, both Holsteins and Jerseys are dairy breeds, so it’s highly unlikely that she would have been in a slaughterhouse if she was indeed a Jersey or Jersey/Holstein mix, especially since she appears to be a rather young cow. Beef cattle are sent to slaughter. Also, neither Holsteins nor Jerseys have horns.
Of course, Batcow can also be found with this red-and-white coloring, as seen below.

Also, she has a brand on her hip, which is typically used on beef cattle rather than dairy cattle. My best guess is that Batcow is actually one of these!

Hereford cows! A small, beef breed with red-and-white coloring. The white on the underbelly and face matches Batcow, and Herefords can have red facial markings. Also, Herefords carry the genetics for small horns and furry topknots on the tops of their heads, all traits exhibited by Batcow. I know Batcow is mostly white-and-brown in current comics, but Herefords range from dark red to light red, so I’m still sticking to the thought that Batcow is a very light red-brown Hereford. Also, Herefords are a very gentle breed known to recognize their owners, and Batcow certainly loves her cuddles and her Damian.
So there’s my PSA, discussing what breed of cow Batcow actually is.
Okay, odd question: If you were going to adapt potentially up to 50 fairy tales of your choice, moving the action to the United States, but were supposed to set only one story in each state (doing that fairy-tale-shared-universe thing where each story takes place in a different kingdom in the same world, and then treating states like kingdoms), what are some stories you would chose to pair with particular states?
