first date with Jungkook drabble

“Okay,” Jungkook sighs. “I’m gonna go.”

Your chest aches from the defeat in his eyes. He blames himself for the way things went horribly wrong tonight and you just want to hold him in your arms and tell him it’s alright. He nods to the black jacket in your arms, his jacket. He lets you have it after spilling chocolate milkshake on your blouse earlier, almost bursting into tears right then and there. You had to reassure him that it was okay and that the stain will come off anyway, even though you know it probably won’t. “You can keep that. Sorry again. About everything.”

He shoves his hands in the pockets of his jeans, sends you a sad smile before walking down the street. You watch him kick little rocks off the pavement as he walks.

“Wait!”

You run after and stand before him, hands to his chest. He’s standing there confused, brows raised, “What’s wrong? Isn’t this where you stay? Oh my god I got the wrong building.” His eyes grow wide in horror.

“No no,” You giggle when he sighs in relief, running his hand through his already messy hair. “It’s the right building.”

“Oh…so…?”

“I just wanted to know when our next date will be.”

“Next date?” He looks at you then scoffs, like he thinks you’re joking. But you’re not. And the smile quickly disappears from his face when you nod. “You want to go out with me, again?”

You nod again and he shakes his head, casting his eyes down to the ground with his brows furrowed, looking perplexed. He glances at the stain on your blouse then dart his eyes back up at you questioningly.

The milkshake wasn’t all. He had made surprise reservations at a seafood restaurant only to find out when you’re there that you’re allergic to seafood. On a weeknight, it was almost impossible to find a nice restaurant available for walk-ins. And he wasn’t about to let you wait in line for hours on your first date.

You end up eating at a 24-hour diner nearby. You honestly didn’t mind, it wasn’t that bad. But Jungkook didn’t think so. You could see from the way he barely touched his food, that he was upset. With himself mostly. How could he not have known you were allergic to seafood?

“How would you have known? It’s our first date, silly!” You tried to raise his spirits a little, shoving his shoulder playfully. There was a tiny smile tugging at the ends of his lips.

Then it was the ice-cream. After getting your cone, you waited by the side of the ice-cream truck for him to get his change, but he turns too quickly and trips over the curb of the pavement, bumping into you and knocking your ice cream onto the ground.

You looked at him right after and his eyes were wide, distraught all over his face. “Oh my god.” He muttered.

“It’s fine. Accidents happen.” You told him. “We can get something else!”

So you walked over to the nearest cafe and got milkshakes. You headed over to a bench at the park, and he lets out a sigh of relief because nothing’s going to go wrong now. You talk for good ten minutes before he knocks over his milkshake by accident and it spills all over the table. And on you.

He hides his face in his hands before scrambling to his feet to your side, taking a piece of the wet tissue from the packet you took out to help you wipe the liquid off. He frowns realising it won’t be coming off anytime soon.

“I should send you home.” He says, dejected.

Jungkook’s competitive and a perfectionist. He works hard to get straight As, all the teachers love him and he’s great at sports. But tonight was just one of those nights. You never really thought Jungkook to be the type of guy who messes up on a first date. But it’s rather endearing.

He’s certain you’d never want to waste your time with him again. “Why would you want to go out with me after tonight? I messed up.”

“So?” You shrug. “Who doesn’t mess up?”

“It was a disaster. I didn’t get to bring you to a nice restaurant, have proper dessert and on top of all of that I spilled milkshake on you. Chocolate milkshake. On your white blouse!”

“Jungkook I-”

“I’m sorry things turned out the way it did tonight. If I knew things were gonna be so bad I…I wouldn’t have asked you out.” He gulps. “I totally get it if you don’t want to see me again. I’m such a loser-”

“Jungkook,” You sigh, grabbing hold of his hands. He chews on his bottom lip. “You’re not a loser. I don’t care about some fancy restaurant. I don’t care that you messed up tonight.”

“You don’t?”

“I don’t. I really like you Jungkook.” You look at him shyly. “I really really like you.”

“You do?” Jungkook looks at you in disbelief. He had worked up the courage of asking you out after having a crush on you for the longest time. You’ve known him since high school but ended up in the same college and for the past six months he’d only managed a hello or goodbye when he sees you in chemistry class. He can’t process the fact that you’re confessing to him after a disaster of a date he put you through. “Are you sure cause I-”

You kiss him to shut him up, hands on either side of his face, tip-toeing so you can reach him. He freezes at first but when he feels your soft lips moving against his, he kisses you back, snaking his arms around your waist to pull you closer till there’s no gap between you. You sigh into the kiss and he smiles before you finally pull away.

“Wow,” he breathes, “you really do like me.”

You laugh and it’s like music to his ears. “You’re an idiot, you know that? I’ve liked you since high school and you think one bad night is going to make me change my mind?”

“Wait, since high school?”

“Yeah I know,” you sigh, looking anywhere but at him. “I’m the loser.”

“No but I’ve liked you since high school too.” His face is the brightest it has been the whole night.

“So I guess we’re both losers?”

“We can be losers together,” He says, pulling you by the waist so your foreheads are touching. His lips ghost over yours with new found confidence. “Wanna have lunch tomorrow?”

Sleepy traces of your fingertips ease Jungkook awake, his back curving just so to feel more of your touch. His skin is warm against your cheek where you lay inside of his hold, nestled against his chest for the last hour when you woke up. He was deep in sleep when you moved to lay closer to him, he woke up just enough to hug you instead, both of you laying on your sides and facing each other. But it wasn’t long after that you heard his light snores muffled into your hair.

You smiled against his bare skin, soon tickling his back where your hands rested. The sun was up long before you, streaming in through a crevice that was left open. Jungkook liked a dark room when he slept, but when you were there, he knew you liked to be woken with the sun streaming in. So before getting into bed, he lifted the shade just enough. You only realized this last night, laying under his comforter and waiting for him. He kneeled onto the bench sitting in front of the long window pulling at the string and when you asked he simply said, “so the sun can come in and wake you up.”

He slid into bed and into your arms with a chummy smile, a hint of bashfulness touching his face when he saw the way you were looking at him, puppy dog eyes shining into his. He kissed you, chuckling against your lips when you told him he was the best boyfriend ever. Waking up this morning, you praised how well he slept so you could relish in his warmth, feeling his chest rise and fall with heavy breaths.

Every now and then he mumbles, making you wonder if he is dreaming. Your eyes are closed, fingers following the dip that runs down the length of his muscular back until you reach his waist.
