So lets start out with the basics! To seperate these two (including adrian of this au!) They are renamed as such!

Barney Calhoun -> Bane

Gordon Freeman -> The Messiah

Adrian (Andi) Shephard -> Anti / The Good Shephard

The AU focuses on the "bad end" of half life" aka if Gordon Freeman had died after killing the Nilhilanth so The Gman couldn't rehire him! Y'know cause,,,, you can't hire the dead. Unless?

See I really really liked the idea that vortigaunts can bring back the dead essentially by bonding their souls to another living person! So, as a thank you to the dying/dead freeman they do the only thing they can, binding his soul to the nearest one! Adrian Shephard!

That's right! These bitches GAY!!!

But! Because of them doing it in such a fucked up way, and other reasons I will fix plot holes for after studying the vortessence stuff in half life: alyx, Freeman doesn't remember himself or Black Mesa! He has no memories and thusly, takes on the title "the messiah" as he denies heavily to be gordon freeman to those who ask him about it! Oh and to add! Because of fucked up nilhilanth stuff (the reason he died), his powers are on par with gman but are super duper volatile meaning high stress and anger could cause massive problems! Not great for a highly stressed out man in a combine infested world!

Messiah, having "died" in xen, had to be replaced in ciry 17, and that person is adrian shephard! In thus au he's trying desperately to prove that he is a good man because,, HECU? Anyone who has heard stories of them fears him, so as such, he pains his mask and suit in orange lambda symbols to prove he is on their side! He,,, has it real rough! But because of his connection to messiah, they seem to bump into one another often, and by that i mean messiah is essentially watching him like a hawk trying to understand this mysterious pull on his soul and why it causes him to,,, remember!

Now you're probably wondering: What's going on with bane? And that my friend is when we get into a more canon side of things! You see, his story is pretty similar to the og, except theres a few different things! Bane, unlike barney, doesn't expect his freeman to return. He knows in his heart he's gone and lets be honest, without the knowledge freeman is coming back, barney would have snapped. And bane did snap! Bane got lost in his job as a "spy" eventually betraying the resistance (don't worry eli, kleiner, and alyx are safe!), and due to this, he gets the related "enhancements" that come with a promotion! If not for all the sightings of messiah, bane would have probably have pushed himself to the point of no return!

Overall,,,, trauma, trauma, and more trauma! But it's okay because they are all gay and in love! <3
