Warning: sexual themes, swearing, not edited.

Authors note: Just a little fun fic to hold you all over while I write Part 2 of You found me :)

——————

Heavy boots and cool metal draped around his neck. The clinking of dog tags and rowdy laughter filled the rec room. It felt good to be home, on base with more than the familiar faces Jj had become accustom to. Newly twenty one and having more than his feet wet Jj was feeling like a true member of the British military. He had three years under his belt and a sparkling reputation of his own as a sniper.

A quick goodbye and he was off to go home to see his parents and his two little sisters. He’d been gone for months and had been dreaming of a home cooked meal and his own room back home. A place to do laundry and Jj knew you would pamper him by doing it for him.

He never bothered moving out once in the military unlike his father had back when John was a young man and enlisted. Unlike John, Jj had a good home life and felt safe in his home. It made things easier not having to rent a flat when he never knew when he’d be home next but living with his parents was getting old. You and John were both big fans of this because it meant you got to see your son a lot more than if he lived on his own. But you both knew this wouldn’t last forever since when Jj was last home he mentioned wanting to move out. His buddies on base also teased him for still living at home and since John was a respected Captain that didn’t help. They would tease Jj telling him to make sure he’s on his ‘best behavior while home with mummy and Captain.’

It was known Jj was the son of the notorious Captain Price. All of boot camp he was called ‘Nepo’ and resented the nickname because it stuck for years. It came out as soon as people heard his first and last name, not helping he was Jonathan Price Junior. Hire ups and peers were relentless, using his family history as a weapon against him, to try and break him. The worst were those of hire rankings than Jj or even John asking Jj if he too was going to be a pain in the ass and not follow the rules. Sighting John’s knack for bending the rules and having little consequences for it. They even belittled Jj’s accomplishment and equated them to the fact it was his father’s doing because John was someone who got what he wanted no matter what.

Last John saw of his son was a resentful goodbye before he was shipped out. The nickname had stuck and John knowing how harsh those in the military were had a feeling it would become his son’s call sign. It got under his skin as a father but knew even a whisper of disapproval would have that name sticking for life. Jj had proved in basic training that he was built for a life in the military. Coming out with the highest marks and best shot out of any of his peers. This only put more of a target on his back and the teasing became harsher because,

‘daddy clearly trained him.’

It infuriated Jj that no matter his successes he couldn’t outrun his fathers reputation. Even at first wanting to be a sniper felt like a pipe dream. It was driving him mad hearing

‘of course Nepo is following in daddy’s foot steps.’

It was causing resentment to build but Jj was wise enough to know it was misplaced but not quiet mature enough to do much about it. It was his choice to join the military and John warned him this would happen. That it would be harder for him because he was Captain John Price’s son. Jj had made a snarky comment the last night home at dinner referring to his father as ‘Bravo 6’ and calling him old and outdated. It didn’t go over well and you had to separate the two from a heated argument. Sending John downstairs to his office to cool off and practically begging Jj to drop the attitude.

You tried to comfort your son but you were met with a calloused ‘I’m fine’ and then a very tight hug before Jj left; choosing to not say goodbye to John. You blubbered like a baby later that night as John tried to comfort you but he was quickly turned on. You accused him of this all being his fault. That Jj’s choice wouldn’t have happened if John didn’t encourage it. You knew it wasn’t true, or at least there was an influence from your husband but not an outright push for this type of life. You struggled when Jj told you his decision and the trend continued when you realized no convincing could change his mind. Now you were wracked with double the worry for your husband and now son.

But tonight you were excitedly cooking for your children and ecstatic to have a full house again. Worry had left your mind because your little boy was coming home safe and sound. Evelyn was visiting home from university and Lily had helped prepare dinner. John was on base for the day and going to bring Jj home with him. He had been chuckling quietly to himself throughout the day at the thought of you springing out of bed that morning; bright eyed and bushy tailed. You were in an excellent mood and the reminder of how much you love your children had John swelling with pride. Now it was his time to go find his son and bring him home while you eagerly waited.

“How’s it been old man?” There was no doubting the confidence in Jj’s voice as he caught sight of his father. He was walking down the empty hall from the rec room to go find him and John was doing the same from the opposite direction.

“Not old yet, ya little shit.” John sniped back the two of them wearing the signature Price cocky grin.

They were dressed similarly and still looked alike, only Jj had your smile and complexion. Jj was in camouflage cargo pants, and a black t-shirt tucked in neatly. John was in beige cargo pants and an army green t-shirt. They both wore heavy dirty boots and brown hair cut short, only John’s was grey by the temples and the wrinkles in his skin not as prominent as Jj remembered.

“Mum forcing her night cream on you or something.” Jj teased as the two men bear hugged each other for a brief moment.

Jj was happy to see his father but couldn’t tell how John was absolutely beaming. John did an impressive job of hiding how desperately he missed his boy and how wracked with worry he had been. He’d lie his ass off if anyone asked if he’d checked up on Jj and knew the person who gave him the intel would never rat him out.

“I’m neither confirming nor denying that.” John gave his son a stern yet playful look through his eyebrows.

“Yeah, we both know she runs our ships.” The snarky humor was warmly welcomed as John patted Jj on the back and they began heading towards the car park.

“Have a good time on leave, Mag!” A squirly voice called. John checked over his shoulder wondering who Mag was considering they were the only two in the hallway; only to see Jj stick up his hand and wave.

“You too.” Jj called back and continued on his way.

“Mag? Like magazine? Or maggot?” John joked trying to seem indifferent but truly curious how his son had earned a new call sign.

“Better than Nepo.” was all Jj said choosing to ignore the origin of his new nickname.

“Now c’mon. Wh-“ John began to push but was cut off.

“It’s classified.” Jj quickly retorted mimicking what his father always said when he or his siblings started asking how Soap got his nickname.

“Ah, so that’s how it is.” With a hearty chuckle the two Price men made their way out to Johns truck. Taking the time to catch up and for John to hear how things were going for Jj.

Entering the car park Jj was surprised to see Gaz leaning against the front of John’s old beat up truck, scrolling on his phone. John let out a quick chuckle, Gaz and John both nodding as a hello.

“Hey, Gaz.” Jj was informal as Kyle was a close family friend. With a firm handshake there was a silence that begged the question.

Why was he here?

“Your wife invited me for dinner. Said I had no choice.” Gaz shrugged never being able to turn you down especially when you said you were cooking.

“Ah, but Simon has a choice?” John asked as the three men loaded into the car.

“She can’t be the boss of everyone. Ghost has his limits with her.” Gaz retorted as he took the front seat leaving Jj to sit in the back.

“Bet if Lily called he’d say yes.” Jj said under his breath.

“Of course, Simons got a soft spot for her.” John agreed earning a chuckle from Gaz.

“Something about Soap having a bond with her has to be the reason.” Gaz said a bit solemnly. It was known that Lily was Soaps biggest fan and she was truly devastated when he passed.

Ghost who never came around started stopping by every so often and would play cards or a board game with Lily. He’d tell her stories about Johnny and listen when she shared her own. Of course Evelyn and Jj hung around but it was obvious Lily took the news harder than her siblings and some part of Simon wanted to help her with that. Maybe it was because he was familiar with loss at a young age. Even if he never vocalized it. Soap and Lily were as thick as thieves whenever they were around each other and that loss could never be replaced but had people you least expected stepping up for your youngest child.

“Excited for your mums cooking, Mag?” Kyle joked hoping it would break the tension of Soaps name coming up.

“You call him bloody Mag too?” John asked wondering how this new nickname had circulated without him knowing.

“Ah you don’t know!? Your sons got quite the reputation.” Kyle was clapping his hands and letting out a deep chuckle.

“Alright, keep it to yourself.” Jj was snickering hoping to keep this from his father as long as possible. It felt good having some secrets even his father wasn’t privy to. There was no embarrassment he just didn’t want John telling you. Jj knew his dad would get a kick out of it as long as you weren’t in the room when he found out.

Looking through the rear view John saw his son trying to hide a cocky grin. That was enough of a hint that it couldn’t be for a teasing reason, Jj seemed proud of it. With that, John dropped it and continued on home.

——————

The sound of car doors swinging shut had you dropping what you were doing and jogging for the back door. You had just finished setting out the food with Evelyn and Lily who were both rolling their eyes at how excited you had been.

Bare foot and dressed in leggings and a faded t-shirt you were out the back door. Just the sight of your son, now a fully grown man was having you beaming like the sun. Seeing him back in your driveway without a scratch on him was all you wanted and what you got. John’s eyes locked on you, admiring how gorgeous you were and how beauty was never fleeting for you.

“Missed you.” Was all you could get out seeing the three men standing in front of you. Before you knew it Jj closed the gap and gave you a tight hug. He’d never admit it back on base but he was a mamas boy and truly did miss you.

“Missed you too mum.” Jj said quietly so only you could hear. He wasn’t as strong or stoic as his father and let it be known you were a pillar in his life. You pulled away and patted his shoulder trying your best to not over do it or smother him. It would always feel strange having to look up at your son instead of him being the ten year old boy that you could so easily wrap your arm around.

Quickly wiping away your tears you gave Kyle a welcoming hug.

“Thanks for inviting me.” Gaz said earnestly.

“Of course, you’re always welcome.” You were by John’s side now and before his welcome home hug you turned to Jj to shoo him inside.

”Dinners on the table so why don’t you go say hello to your sisters.” With that Gaz and Jj made there way inside so John could wrap you up in a hug and whisper words of comfort to help you keep yourself together.

——————

Dinner was going well and John loved having his family all under one roof. You were sat to his right with Evelyn in between you while he sat at the head of the table. Jj was to his left, then Gaz, while Lily sat at the other end of the table.

You cooked steak, potatoes, gravy, and vegetables and Lily made dessert. It was Jj’s favorite and with how much Lily loved cooking, making a dinner this big was no hassle with her help. Jj had told you all about his latest deployment and you did your best to be happy for him, fooling everyone at the table that you were struggling hearing about it. Thats when John told you he was finally going by a new nickname.

“Oh thank god. Nepo was such a mean nickname.” You said shaking your head in disapproval.

“Happy that’s over and done with. Now for some reason they’re calling him ‘Mag.’” John seemed just as relieved as you for that horrible nickname to be gone.

“Mag? Like a gun magazine? What, are you fast at reloading your gun or something.” You asked your son who shook his head in confirmation. You were the last person he wanted to know where the origins of his call sign came from. Kyle was chuckling to himself and so was Evelyn which caught you and John’s attention.

“No it’s not.” Evelyn interjected staring at her bother in teasing disbelief for lying. She was only poking fun having no intention on spilling the beans. Evelyn just liked to see her brother squirm a bit.

“Piss off Evie. Never know when to keep your mouth shut.” Jj shot back, his reaction ruder than expected.

It took you aback, you couldn’t help but whisper aggressively ‘Jj’ at your son. Kyle let out a surprised ‘Whoah’ and patted Jj’s shoulder as a sign that was too far. Kyle knew the origins of the name and didn’t see it as anything harmful it was just guys being guys. Juvenile.

“Oi, don’t talk to your sister like that.” John’s gruff voice dropped an octave and his blood pressure spiked hearing anyone talk to his daughter that way, it didn’t matter it was his son. Evelyn took a pause feeling her chest tighten with anger.

“It’s cuz he’s a chick magnet. Getting laid like crazy.” Evelyn said indignantly.

She wasn’t originally going to out Jj’s buisness but the fact he was so rude had her feeling vindictive. It stung because Jj knew Evelyn had just gotten dumped and that what he just said was her ex-boyfriends reasoning. To have her last failed relationship thrown in her face had her feeling no remorse for spilling Jj’s secret.

“This is why I shouldn’t tell you shit.” Jj hissed right back.

A silence fell over the dinner table as you and John both realized your oldest daughter wasn’t joking. It was so silent all that could be heard was the clock hands ticking away the seconds. The look on Jj’s face told you this was truly the reason your son had gotten his nickname.

John’s eyebrows had shot to his hairline and he had to blink a couple extra times as he digested what was said. If he was honest it was a pretty fucking funny callsign now he knew the story. There was no judgment from him, John was the same way in his early twenties. Looking over to you he saw you had turned tomato red having no clue how to react to the new found knowledge. It was obvious you were more embarrassed than anyone else, even Lily who had her mouth hanging open in shock. John knew you weren’t prudish and wouldn’t judge your son, you were just in shock. But what mother wanted to be privy to that kind of informations?

“Oh my god.” You whispered before placing your face in your hands. That was not what you were expecting or wanting to know about your son, even if he was a grown man. The table was silent, an awkwardness begging to be diffused.

Evelyn was sitting back in her chair seeming proud of herself. Gaz was continuing to eat like nothing happened and Lily quickly followed too, feeling like she was going to die from the awkwardness. Jj couldn’t look you in the eyes and John couldn’t stop staring at his son. This was par for the course for your family. It seemed like once a month someone had to do something that made a meal completely uncomfortable. You’d think you would be use to it by now but no. Your kids always managed to surprise you.

Jj wanted to throttle Evelyn. He made it clear on the phone he didn’t care about John knowing but you were to never know. Jj was pretty open to his dad about his relationships or lack there of. They were transparent with each other and it left Jj always feeling comfortable enough to ask for actual good advice from his father instead of his shithead friends.

But you? Jj could hardly admit he kissed a girl to you let alone was sleeping around. His father was so respectful of you his entire life that Jj could never in a million years dream of talking to you about anything not above board. Yeah some advice on asking a girl out or if he was dressed nice enough, maybe. But asking for advice on how to break things off with a girl or how to be clear he’s not looking for a relationship, was what he’d turn to his father for.

Jj could feel everyone but John avoiding looking at him. You were now refilling your wine glass and taking a large swig from it. The room was still silent only the scraping of forks and knives against plates heard as everyone continued to eat. The steady tick of the clock persisting. Looking to John Jj mouthed ‘what?’ because his father was still staring intently. John put his hands up and averted his eyes to his plate acting as if he’d never been staring at all.

“Darling, the food is amazing.” John had his eyes fixed on his plate, using his fork to point at the food. He cut a huge bite of steak for himself and then ate it, nodding his head in approval. There was another long pause before you broke the silence again with whispered words.

“You’re being safe about it right?” You barely got the question out before Jj was loudly groaning and Evelyn was laughing hysterically. Kyle had to cover his face with both hands as he tried his hardest not to burst out laughing from pure awkwardness.

“Jesus, mum! I’m not an idiot.” Jj looked at you harshly. His expression screaming ‘drop it.’

“Steaks cooked perfectly.” John added to the noise of everyone but you and Jj laughing.

“Sorry.” You said defensively. It felt like second nature just to be sure. Deep down you knew that if this was you and your father having this conversation at the dinner table you’d jump out the window. Hell, your father was so blunt about things you wondered how you never died of embarrassment.

“I mean, if you’re using protection there’s nothing wrong with-“

“Oh my god mum, please, stop!” Jj looked like he wanted to drop dead and part of him did.

This was mortifying and having Kyle wheezing with laughter next to him was only insult to injury. Even sweet Lily was laughing at him and the way his father was choosing to just ignore what was going on and talk about the food made things worse.

“Did you do something different with the gravy?” John was staring at you and you could only sigh out a bit of a chuckle at him.

“No, everything’s the same as always.” You smiled, finally giving in to your husband’s attempt of changing the topic.

“No there’s something different. Is it th-“

“You’re both so embarrassing.” Jj groaned out, going back to eating, much more aggressively than before.

“Not as embarrassing as having a callsign for being a chick magnet. Your future wife’s gonna love that.” John shot right back sarcastically, not tolerating anymore rudeness.

“I’m eating in my room.” Jj huffed out and got up, taking his plate with him.

“Better not be bringing girls here. Your mum might just faint.” John called after his son who responded by stomping down the hall and up the stairs. John got a kick out of that, finally breaking and laughing from deep in his belly. John and Kyle were now both howling with laughter at Jj’s misfortune.

“He’s the model soldier when deployed I forget he’s your kid sometimes.” Kyle laughed out.

“Grown and in the military but reverts back to being a teenager with us.” You chuckled feeling a bit bad that your son was so upset.

“You do the same with granddad. He had you stomping up the stairs last weekend too.” Lily teased and you nodded in agreement.

“Fair enough. No one can embarrass you like your parents.”

——————

“I mean, Mag? Cmon, John.” Your words floated through the air as you flopped back onto your king sized bed.

John was already sitting on his respective side, bare chested, and covers pulled up to his waist. He had his phone in had and by the concentrated look on his face you could tell he was playing that damn chess app again.

“He’s a handsome kid what are we gonna do?” Muttering a curse under his breath John let out a small frustrated sigh and put his phone down. You didn’t have to ask but knew he had just lost a match in the chess game he was addicted to.

“I don’t know but this is reminding me of your stories of being a slag at the same age.” You were still lying on your back, eyes fixed to the ceiling and legs dangling off the end of the bed.

“Let the boy live, he’s doing no harm and I know for a fact he’s respectful. And it’s not like you were the Virgin Mary when we met.” You could hear the snarky look your husband had plastered across his face.

Rolling your eyes you sat up and then crawled your way next or your burly husband. The years had been much kinder to him than he thought they would. John use to worry about looking like an old man far before his time but the wrinkles hadn’t set in as prominently as either of you thought and he liked to say it was because of you. You kept him young both at heart and physically. It also probably helped that after years of bugging him he finally had a skin care routine and used the creams you bought him. That and how you helped him with his anxiety and stress so much so that the scowl he was known for only came out at work and occasionally at home.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah.” The sarcasm was evident in your voice as you placed a sweet kiss to John’s bearded face. Your right hand came up and stroked the coarse hair.

“If I remembered correctly, I didn’t even have to take you out for dinner to get a shag.” As John spoke smugly, his right arm wrapping around your waist and tugged you into his chest. The two of you chuckled lightly, legs intertwining and free hands lacing together.

“You’re such an ass.” You joked, earning a squeeze from the love of your life.

“You knew that when you married me.” With a firm kiss to the top of the head John pressed his forehead against the crown of your hair. Breathing in deeply he filled his senses with your familiar shampoo and sweet smelling lotion.

“Still can’t believe he’s all grown up. I look at him and still see that little old boy with blue slushee all over himself after chucking it in that boys face. Then you took him out for ice cream.” The memory was one you’d never forget and back then you didn’t realize how fast time was slipping by. It felt like your children would always be that little and you truly missed those days of being a young parent and figuring things out together with John.

“Me too, darling. But he’s grown and we have to keep reminding ourselves that.” John’s arm tightened around you the pair of you sharing the same feelings. He too missed what it was like raising your children together and now your jobs were almost done and you both were having trouble grappling with that; you more so than John.

“Jj in the military, Evie in medical school. I’m gonna die when Lily goes off to university.” You sighed heavily hating that time was ticking and you and John were going to be empty nesters sooner than you liked.

“More like culinary school for Lil.” John sighed feeling the tightness of his waistband from not only your cooking but now Lily’s.

“You try those lemon bars she made?” Turning to look up at John he nodded looking almost guilty.

“Had four.” He said with a sigh knowing he was going to have to go for an extra long run in the morning.

You both sat there in silence holding on to each other. Life was happening too fast and you both felt like maybe, just maybe it would slow down just a bit if you held on to each other tight enough. Jj was twenty one now, Evelyn nineteen, and Lily thirteen. You so desperately wanted to turn back time and pick up your pudgy little baby boy one more time and have that feeling of being a first time mom again. You wanted to feel the horror of seeing the latest thing Evelyn climbed and your children’s faces when they watched Lily take her first steps. Without even noticing, John’s arms had wrapped you into and embrace as you quietly cried into his chest.

“They’re all good kids.” His deeply gruff voice whispered to you. One large calloused hand coming up to cup your cheek so he could stare into your beautiful eyes.

“Yeah?” You asked lost in John’s sea of blue.

“Yeah, you did a good job.”

“We did a good job.”

Trouble

"He's definitely your son"

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"I think you know it"

The air in the car was thick and tense as you and your husband drove to your son's school. Reason for it was the phone call you got 30 minutes ago, stating that he got himself into trouble with a classmate.

You knew that your son was a bit different when it came to emotions. He was just like his father, quiet and reserved, but more repulsive. You of course denied that he got that from you.

The car came to a stop and Simon turned off the engine, body turning towards you. He had a neutral look on his face but you knew him better than that. When you told him about the call, he took it in better than you did. He seemed fine with it and that made you mad.

"You okay?" He asked, hand reaching for your cheek. You let him put it there.

"To be honest, i don't know. I just don't know how to react." He hummed in response, seeming to  understand your troubles.

"That's alright" he whispered "neither do I but we will know how to handle it" His palm was smoothing over your cheek, trying to give you any comfort. You smile at that.

"Yeah. Let's go then"

You were now sitting in the headmaster's office, desperately trying to not rip his head of. "And therefore I think that your son has some kind of mental problem"

Your body tensed at this sentence, anger spread through your body. How dare he say something like that? Your son is perfectly fine!

"Mr. Miller I think your overstepping a line right now." Simon's voice interrupted your thoughts. "Our son literally helped a friend that got bullied by that football idiot, how in hell does that have to do something with mental health?"

"Well, Mr. Riley from what I know you weren't exactly a steady father figure he could rely himself on. Whether it be your job-caused absence or your own mental state, your son had to deal with his emotions alone."

That's it. Know he reached your limit.

"And how the fuck do exactly know that huh?! Did one of the other parents tell you that? Well guess what, my son grows up in a loving family on which he can definitely rely on! I do not and will not take and crirism and insult from a man that clearly doesn't even know who the actual problem in this situation is. And spoiler, it's not my son but that bully that you just seem to fucking ignore!"

Mr. Miller's eyes widened at your outburst, clearly not expecting you to say someone like that. You felt Simon's hand reaching for your own under the table, giving it a quick squeeze.

"And if you ever tell my husband that he's not in a perfect mental state, than prepare for the worst! And now if you excuse us, we would like to take our son home with us now."

With that you stood up from the chair and made your way towards the door to open it, Simon quick to follow you.

You were greeted by your son standing in the hallway awkwardly with a black eye. He smiled at you and immediately engulfed you in a hug.

You pressed him closer to you, showing him that you care. You part after a minute. Your husband wrapped an arm around your shoulders and lead you towards the exit, your son not far in front of you.

Simon tilted his head to you ear, whispering.

"You do know that we will probably have to change school after that conversation"

A small laugh escaped your lips.

"Yeah maybe. But let that be a problem for tomorrow okay?"

"Of course, my love"

You two shared a small kiss and continued to walk to your car.

You are a happy family and that's all that matters.
