Honestly One Of The Most Painful And Most Beautiful Things Ive Experienced Has Been Growing Up To View

Honestly one of the most painful and most beautiful things I’ve experienced has been growing up to view my idolized creators/books/movies/tv shows with more criticism. Like it’s so so painful to have someone you used to look up to be so transphobic. It’s so painful to see a tv show that you used to love so much being so homophobic.

And to sit here and realize. They’ve always been like that. Just because we’re grown up enough now to actually see it and call it out doesn’t mean that they used to be any better.

But for us as consumers of that content, it shows so much growth for us to be able to look at these shows and books and movies and say “it’s okay for me to still enjoy this content. But this thing you did, you said, you believe, is really fucked up and I don’t support you anymore”

And then to take this content, these worlds and characters that we love so much, and make it our own, with headcanons and fanfictions, with fanart and aus. To take back the pain that was inflicted upon us and make it right for ourselves and for others.

And throughout our own headcanons, still continuing to call out popular creators (authors, directors, actors, musicians, artists) and to hold them accountable.

It’s been an incredible transition to witness and experience.

Reasons Why Fans of Color Leave/Don’t Interact with Fandom

Casual racism that is brushed off as “an innocent mistake” or “they didn’t mean it” and then everyone pretending like it didn’t happen and moving on with their day (repeat)

Speaking over fans of color about issues that pertain to them specifically

When fans of color speak out about something that makes them uncomfortable or why that don’t interact with it (usually because of the racial/ethnic bias) they are accused of being anti’s or pro-censorship

Characters of color being used as scapegoats/bashed/plot devices

Characters of color never getting happy endings/real development

Backlash against characters of color if they do anything other than be a white character’s side kick/best friend

Actors of characters of color being harassed for something their character did or didn’t do

White characters/actors getting all the attention/credit despite the fact that they are a side character to a POC or on the same level as the POC

Fanfic authors patting themselves on the back for writing a “realistic” character of color and it’s just a bunch of stereotypes

Being told that they should be happy they were even included when they call out the above people

White fans crying about persecution/exclusion because their fav character/trope/kink/ship isn’t loved by all

Fan artists re-imaging characters of color as white/lightening skin tone

Everyone rushing to a white fans defense after a well deserved call out while the fan of color receives hate

Never having a safe fandom space and always having to be on guard with new people/fandoms/chats etc because they’ve been burned before

Feel free to add

Mcu hot takes

Peter parker is an underdeveloped character. He's just iron man jr. Y'all just like him bc he's played by tom holland and we finally get spidey in the mcu. He's just a self insert character

Captain marvel was a decent movie. It wasn't that great. Y'all just like the wlw undertones and are desperate for a woman led marvel superhero movie. Or you just love brie larson

Carol danvers is an underdeveloped character we don't know jack shit about her except that she encounters sexism and was nice to the skrulls when she learned the truth.

We should have gotten a monica rambeau movie instead or they could have just... Not make her a child that looks up to carol

Black panther is the most feminist marvel movie

Steve rogers is actually a kind sweetheart who will constantly fight for what's right. Y'all 1940's jokes are kinda funny but this is also the same guy that jumped on a grenade and would get into fight with bullies

Bucky barnes is an underdeveloped character. Post catws he's just a plot device. Alot of y'all thoughts about him are just fanon interpretation

Sam wilson deserves the shield due to the fact that he's the only person in the mcu that's similar to steve. Y'all are just racist

Stop calling ppl "misogynistic" or "sexist" just bc they don't like captain marvel. The film actually has flaws

Nebula should have killed thanos

The ant man films are fun and engaging. That's it. Send tweet

Thor and valkyrie were flirting in ragnarok y'all just hate black women

Alot of these popular m/m ships are just bc y'all like white men making out. Some of them don't have any chemistry/interact

Mcu hawkeye sucks. But he shouldn't just be the matt fraction version. Please read other hawkeye comics I'm begging you.

Shuri is the smartest person in the mcu stop making her just someone for peter to hang out with

Carol is strong. But scarlet witch, hulk, and thor are wayy stronger. Marvel just said that so that you'll see captain marvel lmao

T'challa is more than just the "furry avenger" y'all are just white and don't know how to relate to black characters

Rhodey is a badass and tony would not make it as far as he did without him

Natasha romanoff is more than just someone bucky dated. She's a spy/assassian who went under her own brainwashing as well. Please read a comic that's not brubaker's bucky cap run

Clint should have jumped off the cliff no one gives a fuck about him

Thanos is a lame villian. I mean hes good for the mcu starting out but there are more compelling and interesting villains out there

Stucky is based on co-depency. It makes no sense in the mcu canon. Bucky keeps trying to get away from steve and steve keeps trying to get 1940s back and not acknowledging his trauma/brainwashing

Stony is bad bc it's based on them fighting constantly. That shit is unhealthy. And steve (rightfully so) beat his ass in canon

Team iron man folks don't know what the accords are they just like tony

Ironstrange is bad too bc y'all just use it to hate on steve

I've never seen gotg 2 bc i hate chris pratt but they're the only team that's also a family besides like the ant man fam

Stop sleeping on luis he's Scott's only friend lmao

That's it for now! Might make a part 2 lmao

One of the main issues I have with Steve’s ending other than everything said here is that I don’t see how Steve could have created a new timeline. If he was in a different timeline, how could he have gotten back into the timeline we know to give Sam the shield? Which means that Steve would have let everything that had happened, to Bucky and Natasha specifically, happen. That’s not the Steve we’ve known since tfa.

I tried to make it reasonable in my head, thinking about how Steve has been progressing to a (slightly) more selfish personality since civil war, but even that doesn’t really hold up. Because even if he were starting to prioritize himself more, he wouldn’t just let his friends suffer unimaginable torture for no other reason than his retirement. Also, that apple pie life, with Peggy? I don’t think he’d really be happy living that kind of life. He’s always seemed most at peace with himself when trying to do the right thing (whatever “the right thing” might mean to him in a given situation).

So... it's been over a year since Endgame and I thought I'd reexamine my opinions on it. Maybe I just needed some time to let it digest? Maybe I won't be so negative about it after some time to think on it. And I'm here to report that... no! Its just as bad (if not worse) than I remember.

Now, anyone who has followed me for any length of time knows that when I'm criticizing the MCU, particularly the Avengers films, I'm talking about Steve Rogers and his "arc". I've made no bones about how I felt about what they did to him and I stand by that opinion. Endgame completely assassinated Steve Rogers as a character, taking a man who by his own admission, if he "sees a situation heading south, he can't ignore it" (written and directed by the same idiots) and stick him back in the Good Old Days where he knows how bad everything is and how bad it's going to get.

The real kicker with that is the fact that the writers/directors who came up with the whole time travel nonsense can't even agree on how it works. Either Steve's bogus journey created an entire new timeline as was badly explained (despite not making any sense whatsoever) in the movie itself, or he was always a part of this universe, which is just further killing of all his characterization since his first appearance. If he created a new timeline, he either spent the rest of his life fixing the wrongs that he knew were going to happen (completely obliterating the fact that they wanted him to "retire" or he woke the Other Steve up and made him "save the world" while he kicked back and let everyone else fight the good fight without him, a clear contradiction of his character. The other option was that he was in this timeline the whole time, living in plain sight as Peggy's husband, despite her being in the espionage business, meaning she would have been watched, even if only for her own protection. But apparently no one noticed how similar her husband looked to America's Greatest Hero? It also just doubles down on the fact that Steve let everything that happened, happen again, despite knowing he could do something about it that would save many lives. That's not something Steve would ever do.

What really makes this whole situation worse is the fandom reaction to that ending. We were still divided after Civil War, and this movie went and divided the fandom yet again. Either you liked Steve's ending or you "weren't a true fan"/"pissed because your ship didn't happen". These same fans who called out the Russos and M&M for years, who called out the horrible writing in Endgame itself when it came to almost every other character, suddenly didn't care when it came to Steve Rogers. That's where the joke came from that they were the new Tony stans. They didn't care how/why Steve got his happy ending, as long as he got his happy ending, even if it spit in the face of everything that came before.

The thing is, the ending wouldn't have been so bad if there had been any semblance of foreshadowing. There was nothing for several movies that suggested that Steve never got over Peggy. The first time he really mentions her in a romantic sense after The First Avenger was in Engame itself, where he hijacked a support meeting for those who lost loved ones in the Snap to talk about a woman who died two years before the Snap happened from old age. The entire thing was a last minute decision to remove Steve Rogers entirely because Chris' contract was up.

I maintain that Steve should have just retired in the modern world, maybe got some actual therapy, and rest, knowing that he wasn't alone anymore and that there were others to help save the day so that he didn't have to do it alone. Would have opened up a possiblity for a return (because apparently Chris misses the role already) in a future team-up movie, where Steve swoopes in to save Sam with a "Captain America needed my help"
