Not to complain about the for you tab again but I just saw the most INSANE sns post and I'm still thinking about it oh my GOD /neg

One thing I'm surprised I enjoyed as much as I did was the first 30 minutes! The Genjutsu scene wasn't bad at all in context!

See, I have a headcanon that Naruto is ND (bc I am). He is incredibly emotionally intelligent, but he has a ton of trouble processing his /own/ emotions.

I talk a lot about this with sns actually! Naruto doesn't have context when it comes to friendship versus romantic love. His default for most of his life at this point is assuming people simply respect him and nothing more. (Because that's what he was aiming for his entire life: Respect.) This is why every time Sasuke asks why Naruto is doing what he's doing, he says "Because we're friends." He isn't processing how /he/ feels. It's impossible to have empathy with himself, after all.

We know that the genjutsu is supposed to be a dreamlike prison in which you don't want to escape. Sai even says he was dreaming of reuniting with his brother!

Naruto starts off going through memories he shares with Hina. That's before the scarf even comes in. He starts it off trying to process how he feels. We already know he views her as a good friend from the show, but strictly in the movie, he was kind to her if not a little dense (very him core lmao). But when the scarf comes in and he gets context for the depth of Hinata's feelings, he ends up trying to really process his own.

It's visual storytelling! Sakura didn't say the thing about food and love irl, naruto is talking to himself through memories. He's using these scenes to work out his feelings with himself. That's why scenes are rewinding and recontextualized. We're not supposed to take it all literally. Like ino saying "you really love her, don't you?" Not something that happened in real life.

I think of it like a ninja visual storytelling version of using an emotions wheel to parse exactly how you're feeling.

And then after that, he spends the next hour of the film watching her, really noticing her, and realizing just how deeply /he/ feels for her.

See, I thought they'd take away his emotional intelligence in this film, but they didn't! I was actually really impressed with that. He watched her repair that scarf and saw how hard she was still working on it with no solid intention to even give it to him and chose to put Kushina's scarf away himself. He wanted her to give it to him, but on her own terms. He was incredibly gentle. So that was nice! It was so much better than I thought it would be. It was also a fun parallel because she was always watching his back as kids, and this time, he was hanging back, watching hers.

So in between commissions I'm probably going to alternate between sns month and the naruhina Halloween calendar for art? Depending what prompt from which list I vibe with more
