YEA UM SO I HAVE FEELINGS ABOUT IT but they’re super self-indulgent so UM they’re going under a cut:

i feel like as she gets older, she’d dive further into the masculine look. the only times she’s willing to wear something “feminine” -- blouses, shorts, scrunchies, etc. -- is if it’s dina’s (because. cmon the clothes sharing goes both ways, it’s comfy), at home, and out of pure laziness. she’s only really liked clothes that don’t accentuate her figure; that’s kinda how it’s always been.

they likely wouldn’t have the terminology we have (i shudder at the thought of how incorrectly the term “butch” would be used in straight old jackson), but i like to think that cat knows some stuff! probably has some literature or books on lgbt stuff that help ellie figure things out even if she might not be able to come to a “concrete” conclusion like id’ing as nonbinary. butch, maybe. they/them pronouns, probably not, but ideally she’d likely think they fit.

she grows her hair out in the years after coming back to jackson (a symbol of her growth) but it becomes too troublesome. it causes sensory processing issues, she hates tying it up, etc etc., not to mention how she looks to other people. jackson probably isn’t conservative but it is a small town and considering seth’s gripes in the dance scene, the people speculating about ellie and dina, and how same-y everyone looks and dresses.....likely a bit of judgement from ppl.

so dina gives her The Chop and ellie LOVES IT. no hair in her face or brushing her neck/shoulders, no comments about looking like a girl, and it’s just Right.

oh thank you for asking <3 it really depends on the fic! like in the last one i posted, i imagine she works in emergency care. but if you wanna know my personal headcanon that i picture for most fics— as usual the answer is highly specific and i can't really explain why in any way except telling you that my brain decided it was this way because… because :)

i think she's a cardiologist!! that's like some of the hardest training you can put yourself through in the medical field and it just makes sense to me that abby would not only immediately think "i wanna do that one" but also be really fucking good at it. not without a tremendous amount of effort but still, it helps that she's very determined!

sometimes i picture her specifically being a pediatric cardiologist because i think she's one of those people that has a million times more patience for children than adults (as everyone probably should). she has fun talking to them! but she's a little awkward, i think she could use some help from ellie's book of puns because she's not always good at making them laugh!! my poor girl, she tries her best <3
