a poem for Palestine

i put on my headphones to listen to music,

and i don’t enjoy it.

i have food on my plate to eat,

and i don’t enjoy it.

i have water running from my tap to drink,

and i don’t enjoy it.

i have medicine for a cough,

and i don’t enjoy it.

i have a bed to sleep in,

and i don’t enjoy it.

i scroll tiktok to see people complain about boycotts,

and i don’t enjoy it. 

i see Palestinian business being burned down in my neighbourhood,

and i don’t enjoy it.

i see people complaining of protests,

and i don't enjoy it.

how can i, a person who lives in such luxury, enjoy my life, when citizens of Gaza are being tortured and murdered, in plain daylight, for the world to see. 

how can i turn on the lights in my house, sleep in my bed, eat the abundance of food and enjoy it, when citizens of Gaza are not afforded this right. 

how can i sit by as hate crimes are being carried out across continents towards innocent people. 

how can i stand by a genocide when i’ve said countless times that i would never see this happen again. 

how can we as a world stand by a genocide when we have collectively made a promise that this would never happen again. 

how can we as a world not only stand by but aid in the genocide of innocent people when we promised this would never happen again, when we put structures in place to ensure that this would not happen again.

one is too many, two is too many, but eighteen thousand seven hundred is certainly too many. it is not too late and it will not be too late until we call it a history that we are ashamed of. 

how can we as a world look back and be ashamed of actions we took but not be more ashamed when the actions are repeated in front of our eyes.

I think tumblr went back on their "remove all mention of palestine from trending" plan? Free palestine was the first one to disappear....before getting brought back for a few hours then disappearing again til now, which might mean staff was disagreeing with each other, I'm completely guessing here.

1) These Palestinians — children and adults — were not tried in civil courts. They were tried in military courts. Only Palestinians are routinely tried in military courts for minor offenses (which btw are decided by an OCCUPYING FORCE) like stone throwing, which makes this fundamentally a tool of apartheid. There are different legal systems for different people. By saying there is legitimacy to Israel's claims of them being "criminals", you are thereby admitting you find legitimacy in the apartheid that polices Palestinians.

2) You cannot be "against occupation" and not admit to an apartheid system that targets and segregates Palestinians — apartheid is a tool of the occupation. The support of imprisonment of children is not only morally reprehensible but also means you align yourself with the legal systems of Israel, which means you actually DO support the occupation.

Saying that you are "anti-occupation" and "anti-zionist" means nothing if you find legitimacy in the very system that controls and occupies Palestinians.
