Suna Rintaro was everywhere.

Aside from the fact that you already see his face when you close your eyes, and at night your dreams are infested with fox-like grins and messy dark brown hair. That was annoying on its own right.

No, it seems no matter where you turn, Suna Rintaro was waiting for you just around the corner.

Last week, you wouldn’t have minded. In fact, you might have felt as if the world was finally doing you a favor. Now, the powers that be seem to have reared its ugly head to mock you.

On the plus side, you’ve gotten to know the halls of your school on a much more intimate level than you thought possible.

You knew that if you took the stairway on the east side of school, you’ll avoid the route that Suna usually takes to class. You discovered that the second floor bathroom was exceptionally cleaner than the third floor — after having to avoid it when you saw Suna hanging around the entrance on a few occasions.

You didn’t mind taking the long way around the buildings to get back to class, even if it had always made you late. At least it meant you wouldn’t find Suna waiting for you outside again.

Suna Rintaro was everywhere, and you were doing everything in your power to make sure you weren’t.

Because then maybe you wouldn’t see him pressed up against another girl, her letter of confession sitting pretty in his palm.

You looked at your watch, slowly making your way to the lockers to change your shoes. The school was empty, and the afternoon rays filtered the hallways in a golden light. Your body was tired from all the extra work and walking you’re putting it through, but you tell yourself it’s for your own good.

Was it pathetic to shoulder everyone’s clean up duty to ensure you were alone when you left school? That was a question you didn’t feel like facing at the moment.

As soon as you open the door to your locker, another hand shoots from behind to slam it shut — Suna’s arm settled mere centimeters from the right side of your face.

“I rejected her.”

You felt your body tense up from the familiar voice. Suna’s breath fanned on your neck, his chest barely inches away from pressing against your back.

“Huh?” You barely managed to squeak out.

“I know what ya think ya saw the other day,” he speaks slowly, and though his words drag with a drawl, his tone was stern, “Ain’t that why you’re avoiding me?”

You didn’t answer, but your silence was enough for him.

He removes his hand from your locker.

“I rejected her, so don’t go around just assumin’ things.”

You hear him pocket his hands, but he doesn’t move from behind you.

“Why are you telling me?”

“Just thought you should know.”

Whether from embarrassment at being read so easily, or irritation from his indirect answer, you turn around in an attempt to face Suna with anger.

But instead, all you see is his retreating back. He simply waves his hand.

“I’m late for practice. Answer my call later.”
