Omi: I Need You To Distract The Guards For Me.
Omi: I need you to distract the guards for me.
Chase: Alright.
Omi: What are you gonna do?
Chase: I’m going to kill them all. That should distract them.

Master Fung: Omi, the assignment was to bring in something important to you.
Omi: Yes, and I did that.
Master Fung: I meant an object, not ... *gestures in terror at Chase Young*
Suddenly realized that I’m absolutely in love with the trope of a badass warrior forming an unconventional father figure/mentor bond with a lonely little kid that they make the first move to approach, and the little kid comes to idolize him, and that bond manifests itself physically through the surrogate kid picking up the man’s iconic signature attack because he watches the warrior in action so much.
So this signature that the warrior developed that was originally only known by this one guy, this move that signified his efforts and lone achievements and the strength he’d built for himself, suddenly becomes something that signifies the close bond between him and the first person he ever passed the move on to.
These warriors, these martial artists, who poured their lives, energy, blood, sweat, and tears into honing this skill of their own, and then just gifting it to someone new.
It’s the heartfelt transition from “That’s his signature move” to “that’s their move.” It’s his will and spirit living on through this kid, it’s how much the kid paid attention to him. The shared signature attack becomes almost like a form of platonic love in and of itself.
Does that make sense?
I don’t know if I’m making myself clear, but whatever this is, I love it:

Gai and Lee’s “dynamic entry”

Chase and Omi’s “Repulse the Monkey”

Kaze and Takeshi’s “back attack”

Kojiro and Jisai’s form of Chujo-ryu swordsmanship
I can’t think of any of those attacks without thinking of both those characters and what it means to them.
Chase: Little one, you can be really destructive-
Heylin!Omi: I can?!
Chase: I wasn’t giving you permission!
Heylin!Omi: Too late! I already broke something.

Chase: Please, for me?
Omi: Do not do that.
Chase: What?
Omi: You think whenever you say, "Please, for me?" That I will just do anything you want. Well, not this time!
Chase: Please, for me?
Omi: Okay.
