really terrifying how there were 22 martyrs (13 of them children) and more than 30 wounded from a North Gaza school being bombed by the iof and no one is saying anything. in a news story survivors said that there was a pregnant mother whose unborn child was ripped from her body because of the missile blast.
this is a daily reality for every family currently in North Gaza. on top of the medical siege (no polio vaccines have been granted despite rampant epidemic), high food prices (30x the price elsewhere), and the FOURTH consecutive day of bombing all of this has been normalized now
imagine going near deaf from the constant explosions of nearby bombings. every single hour of every day. imagine day-long communication blackouts, not knowing if you've just talked to your parents and siblings the last time. you ought to be uncomfortable this isn't something anyone should look away from

The fae circle is so deeply fucked up on re-listen.
He’s not willingly saying any of this. He’s laughing, and he’s dancing, but he is not happy, nor is he suddenly feeling open by his own will. And it’s just upsetting, because what Arthur did to his friend was beyond awful, but you can can understand why, and can see that behaviour — that coping — still linger in the Arthur we know now.
Instead of simply being open with William. He bottled it up. He let the resentment for William’s father grow until he lashed out at his friend, and burned the one friendship he had in the fire.
He’s dancing around a fae circle too, just as William said they would have done together, and there’s something in that I can’t quite word.
As a whole there’s just this specific kind of psychological horror to the entire scene that makes it so distressing to listen to.

Messaging people for the first time is so hard. What am I supposed to say? Like, "You seem really odd and your blog intrigues me. Do you want to have philosophical conversations or perhaps talk about fictional characters?" What! Whatever. I will just follow you back and stare at your blog with my big beautiful brown eyes.
Ah I have more to say about this actually.
So this episode felt very fairy tale like: Friar’s Lanterns, being entranced by the woods, fairy circles etc.
Fairy tales are often designed to warn children of strangers or to teach lessons, so the protagonists are usually children.
But this time, at least at the start, the threat is a child, and the protagonist(s) an adult.
Arthur doesn’t interact with children that much, but when he does, his paternal instincts shine through.
Unlike with the naked lady and the wraith, Arthur is not protecting a child: he’s in danger because of one.
Idk about you, but if I saw a hooded, obviously suspicious child who is certainly leading me into a trap eating RAW DEER GUTS I would run for the hills.
And I think if Arthur had seen an adult do this, he would have done the same. Arthur knows what genre he’s in.
But his paternal instinct takes first place. He’s worried for the kid, concerned about their health. I know he was being enchanted by the Friar’s lanterns and such, but still.
He’s the perfect candidate for the swapping of children as a threat in a narrative: someone who is desperate for survival, constantly wound up to fight or flight, but so quick to drop it out of care or kindness.

Malevolent part 46 spoilers
Arthur’s paternal instincts clashing with his survival instincts hurts my heart a bit. Especially the way he said this line
Arthur and John's relationship is so important to me because you take a man who has lost everyone he has ever loved and you give him a piece of an eldritch god who at first cannot, and then later on will not leave him. You force a being who knows nothing of humanity to see the world through the eyes of a man whose lifelong companion has been grief, and who in spite of that, chooses to believe in kindness and hope.
It is through his journey with Arthur that John witnesses firsthand how these things are a practice. John is forced into a position of powerlessness he has never experienced, but Arthur helps him find meaning in this new life that seems so easily taken away. They encounter horrific things and commit horrific acts in order to survive. It is a choice they must make again and again to believe life will get better. And kindness is a participation in hope by choosing to make things better where they can. It is a kindness to give a dying animal a quick death, even if it hurts to do so.
Although their relationship has been rocky (to say the least), Arthur has John now. He has a part of The King in Yellow who will do everything he can to protect him and stay with him. Kings are not immortal, but John is a hell of a lot harder to kill than a human. Arthur finally has a loved one who might not die before him and leave him alone again. He has someone who loves him even after seeing the parts of life he is most ashamed of.
Their relationship is: I know you are more than the mistakes you have made. You cannot take back your actions, but you can change for the better. You still deserve to live and be well. I will keep choosing you even when you do not choose yourself. No matter how dark the night is, we will make it through to another day. Together.

Little mini malevolent part 46 review
MALEVOLENT PART 46 SPOILERS, of course
I feel like this episode was an ultimate show case of Malevolent’s strongest elements.
The voice acting: the way you couldn’t quite be sure when John and Arthur were being entranced and when they were being earnest was really disarming, it was awesome. The frenzied tone of both Arthur AND John was so unsettling, it made it one of Malevolent’s scariest episodes for me.
Music: How far we’ve come came in which was cool. The music felt very fairy-tale like. The music going from the usual humorous and light hearted strings that usually plays for light scenes, to distorted and strained was wicked. I liked that there was no music for the scene with Horig. It allowed the the editing in his voice to really shine through
Sound design: the sound of the trees was a good touch. The editing on Horig’s voice was phenomenal. Malevolent always has great spatial audio, but this really pushed it to new heights!
