This got me thinking of what they would even consider desserts!

Due to being underground, a lot of their diet would probably be other bugs, roots, and berries from greenpath and the queens gardens, both before and after the fall of the kingdom.

You'd also have to consider the most common diets- which would be omnivorous or carnivorous! Which means most of what they would consider desserts are probably meat! Something like honey'd gruz, creamed mushroom, berry filled Aspid, honey filled root pastries, grilled fluke topped with sweet jam, and if you want to get fancier, you could even go with stuff like crystalized Tiktik liver, crawlid brain, sweetbread pastry, etc. for more vegetarian options, a lot of those can be replaced with assortments of berries!

I feel like the desserts would also be very different depending on the culture, like. The Mantis' might see drinks as desserts, such as berry juices or mead, while the weavers might see meat delicacies as deserts, no sweeteners needed.

Hey so I know you have food headcanons, can you tell us any headcanons you have for hallownestian desserts or snacks?

Desserts:

The pragmatic answer would be 'not a lot'. Sugar would have to be sourced and processed from some form of plant matter; roots, sap, berries, etc. I'd imagine some of the plants in the Queen's Gardens or Greenpath could hold some, but the area near the Blue Lake may be cold/moist enough for something similar to a sugar beet.

Oh, and honey, but that might be problematic unless Hive Knight allows it (or if hes dead. take whatever ig). Wine is also another option but I assume most of it is loooooooong gone by that point.

Assuming they have some sort of flour (my guess would be something similar to acorn flour or potato flour, assuming they have nuts and root vegetables), they could make a few basic desserts!

Snacks:

Mmm trail mix! Definitely a lot of preserved meats, nuts, dried fruits.
