I Think One Of My Favourite Arguments In That Favour Is That At Some Point Lucifer Implies That We Don't

I think one of my favourite arguments in that favour is that at some point Lucifer implies that we don't know God really did create everything, maybe he was just there first and called it all his, and I can see that in relation to Bruce calling Gotham his city when he's up there in his mansion in Bristol.

But I also think he makes a really good Adam!

And a really good failed Lucifer: came back, wrecked havoc on Bruce's status quo, has read Paradise Lost, for a once he almost thought he could do this, but in the end he can't kill Batman he can't kill Joker and he can't get Batman to kill Joker and he fails at being Lucifer, not because he can't kill Joker, but because it becomes apparent reading what happens before and after, his hatred for Bruce isn't immortal, but his love is. And that's sad, because Lucifer holds onto his hatred as a sign that all is not lost because at least he has that, at least he has his hatred and revenge but if the hatred dies, if the fury is left and the betrayal remains then what does he have? "Better to reign in Hell than to serve in Heaven" but current Jason isn't reigning anywhere, is he? It's so tragic I love him so much failed Lucifer Jason he wears a bat on his chest and a muzzle on his face and he tried so, so hard

(I'm not even touching the Cain and Abel themes holy shit that's a whole other baby)

Btw you don't need christian Jason Todd to have self-aware christian imagery Jason Todd, he just needs to have read Paradise Lost

Crack idea:

Jason on karaoke night singing "What I know now" from the Beetlejuice musical at the top of his lungs. It's not even off-key (because he's memorized the melody) but Bruce has stopped breathing somewhere between "I wouldn't have had my little accident" and "see a shrink, call a priest, ask the recently deceased". Jason joyfully shouts "I exploded!" and Dick's face turns to shrimp colour. Duke is laughing his ass off

(bonus if Steph is singing the parts of the ensemble)

""You cannot win", her voice echoes through the wuthering hail, soaked in incense and gold and myrrh. "Abandon these futile attempts that will only harm you further."

What can a human do to a power like this, the Lord of Everything and Arbitre of unfairness, his deadliest warrior by his side with her gleaming lasso like a flaming sword? How is he meant to stand up tall, on these legs uneven?"

Someone commented around the angstiest part of my fic (really lovely reader, very sweet comment) that they didn't see how the story could have a happy ending because what had happened to Jason could never be undone (which is kinda the point) and the Robins would always be child soldiers (which was really really not what the story was about). And for a moment I was really confused because while the story is pretty fucking dark and the discussion over child-soldiering could totally happen in-tone in universe, it was never even a theme, so I read the comment and thought "well, shit. What do I do now?" Because it was never gonna get addressed beyond Bruce's usual "woe is me I got my robins killed" stuff, but now I felt like whatever ending I was picturing was rendered dimmer by the shadow of that untreated issue in the background. Eventually I decided to say screw it because the story is more about playing with the character's psychology and using superheroes to talk about different real-life questions than creating a super realistic flawless world where there's a great justification for everything, but it still fucked with me. I think that reader just misunderstood Jason's motives in the story since the narration didn't to the bottom of it yet which created some confusion, but I didn't expect it to catch me off-guard like that.

Anyway, dc is a made up universe used to tell stories about a lot of different stuff using different tones and themes. Don't be an idiot like me and give yourself a headache for something silly like that when you can give yourself a headache over something clever (like a jayroy horse movie AU) instead.

"Are the Robins child soldiers" It depends. If the story is super serious and into exploring complex morality and grounded from reality's standards, then yes. If the story is lighthearted, made for children, fluff, etc., then no. If it's somewhere in the middle, it might depend.

If an author wants to write a story seriously delving into the fucked up-ness of children fighting criminals, they can, and if you don't like it, you can read something else.

If an author wants to write a fun story about villains and heroes featuring Robin in a world where that's not an issue, they can, and if you don't like it, you can read something else.

If an author wants to write a serious story but not apply IRL-logic to Robin, they can, and if you don't like it, you can read something else.

Saturday Family Dinner by GlitterStained on ao3

https://archiveofourown.org/works/58634296

When his terrifying crime family tracks him down, runaway Jason Todd knows his days are numbered. Meanwhile, Bruce is struggling to give his son space, the kids are too curious for their own good, and none of them can fait for family dinner.

The public has requested fic recs for the hyper specific "dark mafia no kill rule reversal Jason comes back to the family angst but still there's love" trope, aka Jason Todd's platonic found family version of a dark romance, and so they shall receive: the five fics I've found on the matter, which I recommend especially if you enjoy protective batfam, angst and misunderstandings.

We happy few by sunsational96, it's really good writing if you're not afraid of stuff getting dark, unfortunately it has only two chapters yet but I hope it gets updated because it's so promising (only point I dislike is Jason being a cop but also given his family, I get it.) Tim is unhinged in it.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/42523731/chapters/106806804

The Safe Inside series by Dalee, the first work of which is "The Sun will Rise", which is complete and a satisfying conclusion to the story in itself.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/25397782

Unrefusable Offer by Envisparkler, it's finished! Honestly I could have done with a third chapter because it's kinda angsty but it's really fun too, somebody give poor Jay a hug he's traumatized.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/52124098/chapters/131834677

Choke by Chemically_Imbalanced, VERY similar to Unrefusable Offer (though idk which came first) so if you love reading different takes on the same idea and enjoyed one, I definitely recommend the other- also a real fun read, and it has the advantage of not being finished yet, so we might get more than just the two chapters, even if they're already fun on their own!

https://archiveofourown.org/works/56516731/chapters/143631982

You liked Unrefusable Offer's take on dark!Dick and wish there was a short fic with his POV? Don't worry, here's sElkieNight60's extra add-on for that fic: Damned to Perdition. It's tasty, y'all.
