Whether or not he truly believes Sol is his, he has been affectionate and distant to her. There were many reasons why Rosabelle couldn't marry Peter, and of course, most of those reasons had something to do with her. She didn't want a husband who was rarely home and always on jungle expeditions. She didn't want to leave San Myshuno. She didn't love him as much as she did back in high school, and she doubted he still loved her as much. She wanted to focus on her career and enjoy life — she just graduated, after all. She wanted to meet more people. She wanted a lot of things. She had a lot of plans — and none of which have him in them. And most of all, she didn't want to marry Peter out of a sense of obligation to provide her daughter with a father figure. She didn't want to tie him down to a family that was not entirely his. He deserved better — they both did.
