Sometimes when I speak I want to be heard, to be understood.  I do not want you to tell me a similar story and I especially do not want you to interrupt me to tell your story.  To do so minimizes what I am saying, what I am trying to convey.  To interrupt me while I’m speaking is the quickest way to shut me down and insure that I will not open up to you again.  Why confide in someone when that person is only listening to respond, not to understand?
