Ok I’ve noticed some people are confused:

Daydreaming: you’re awake not asleep and you can control your daydream and when you daydream, it’s only done for fun.

Maladaptive daydreaming: you are awake but you can’t control when you daydream, sometimes even not being able to control the daydream itself (it varies from person to person), could be classified as disassociation and is a disorder (usually tied to other mental issues but not all the time).

Immersive daydreaming: you are awake and use daydreaming as a coping mechanism you can control your daydreams and when you have them.

Dreaming: you are asleep and you can’t control your dream

Lucid dreaming: you are asleep but can control your dream

Shifting: your body is “asleep” and your mind is in a scripted universe of your own creation, you quite literally shift into a different universe via meditation (so to speak) *note: I’m not that much into shifting and I’m very skeptical of it so this definition could be off* *note 2: shifting is intentional, you can’t accidentally shift, you have to write out/ think up a script on what you want to happen within this universe you’re shifting to and then constantly think “I will shift to (insert universe here)” or use use videos that play frequencies that help you shift. You also don’t have to be asleep for this to happen, it’s like disassociating and your body is on autopilot while you hang out in your shifter universe**note 3: it’s just best to do your own research, there’s tons of shifters on tumblr who go into more depth on what shifting is and how to do it *

Daydreaming = awake

Dreaming = asleep

You can’t daydream if you’re asleep, that’s just regular dreaming or lucid dreaming if you can control the dream.
