childhood friend! megumi who would always pick you little daisies from his mom’s garden, leaving it on your front porch before ringing the doorbell and dashing away when you answered.

writing you little notes in school with his older sister’s help, the letters scratchy and hard to make out because you’d both just learned the alphabet.

blushing as he presented you a note with a shaky hand, pouting and looking away as you thanked him with a huge, toothy grin. even being unable to read, 5 year old you had gladly cherished the gift from her best friend.

and when you turned 18, you reopened the box of old trinkets and found the crumpled paper, with a “i love you” written in shaky handwriting by a 5 year old who didn’t quite know what love was, but simple knew he wanted to be your best friend for the rest of his life.
