Quick Comparison: Kaladin Vs Sam Vimes
Quick comparison: Kaladin vs Sam Vimes
Discworld's Sam Vimes is a character who, like kaladin, is very quickly uplifted from gutter trash to noble in charge of very important things. However, Vimes is constantly angsting about his new status. He hates that he has noble titles because he doesn't want to be, on paper, more valuable than anyone. He thinks he's a class traitor and is deeply uncomfortable when poor people from the street he grew up on fear he'll throw them in jail for petty crimes. He insists no one else use honorific like "your grace" and hates the very concept of a king. Kaladin lacks the same burning soul of Vimes. His thoughts and musings change to fit his environment. Kaladin can be lightened when he needs to. Sam Vimes is completely incapable of being a Duke. He's like a dirty stray dog in a royal gown. I love my dirty stinky old man Vimes. Sorry got a little off track but yeah you get it.
I love kaladin but i fucking HAAATE kaladin. As soon as kaladin became upperclass, class struggle no longer mattered to him. You just dont hear about slaves anymore, you dont hear about darkeyes. You would think with the parshmen gone, and the world in turmoil, darkeyed enslavement would be out of control, but we wouldnt fucking know because kaladin doesnt fucking care. Kaladin doesnt care that dalinar has slaves, he doesnt care if he works under a corrupt monarchy, he does as hes told and turns a blind eye, despite being powerful enough now to make change. He contradicts his own morals and it makes me so angry that it almost feels inexcusable to me

Is it a well known fact in the discworld Fandom that The Truth and Going Postal are basically the same book? They feel so similar in their plots and characters, going postal is just better because the Moist is cool.
This is what foils are for! I love foils!
why is explaining a villains sad backstory always taken as an effort toward excusing their actions. why does the conversation need to involve the question of excusing anything rather than just making their present behavior way more interesting by complicating their feelings or their motivations. why is acknowledging complicated feelings or motivations taken as apologism in and of itself. why is everyone so incredibly boring
Different companies get into dick measuring contests with their swords, adorning them and adding their logos. They bribe mech pilots to choose their sword for the next attack so that the front page of the news has a huge Brotsworth Realty®️ claymore chopping through the kaiju's skull. Mining company with unfolding pickaxe sword, military contracting company with crazy gun sword, tech company with holo-sword. Release of an upcoming fantasy movie sees studio dress their sword to look like the one from the movie. Indian embassy with Talwar. Polish embassy with cavalry sword. Australian embassy with spiders sword.
City where the central structural columns of all large skyscrapers have swords in them just in case a giant robot needs a sword to fight an equally giant alien invader. The hilts stick out of the tops of the buildings like spires; some of the larger hilts have observation decks built into the guard. Once a month the same guys who wash the windows take their little suspended platforms inside the central column to polish and sharpen the sword.
Big fan of characters realizing they don't get to die. They have to live. And grow. And be a person. And deal with shit they thought they'd never have to. And be fucked up about it. I would like more of this. Enough dying for honor or as redemption. It ain't. You're just a corpse. There is no moral value in dirt time.
I think I'm starting to understand now. Thank you for putting this together. Moash is a creature of slime and angst and he belongs to you.
