I argue

Becaue sex work os outlawed, only outlaws hire sex workers…

Anyway yeah I've decided to adopt "revolutionary feminist" as a direct counterpoint to radical feminists. Yes, "Revolutionary feminism" refers to feminists of the American revolution, but considering it's been 200 years, I think we can recycle the term.

Modern Revolutionary Feminism is queer, front and center. I feel like some other branches of feminism (even intersectional feminism) are lgbtq only as an after-note.

Revolutionary feminism is inherently intersectional and inclusive of all people, regardless of race, religion, national origin, age, sex, gender, disability, or ethnicity. It's anti-racist. It's environmentalist. It's anti-capitalist. It is anti-assimilation. It's pro-choice. It's pro-sex work. It's pro-land-back. It's pro-theism. It's pro-cultural expression.

Revolutionary feminism is for everybody. We demand the dismantling the patriarchy as part of humanity's development of a better, freer world for everyone.

As a Gravity Falls fan what's your take on Mable's selfishness not having any consequence?

i think she is 12 years old and probably ultimately learned her lesson when the entire town was engulfed in a demonic apocalypse. what did you expect. should she have gone to jail?

I’m kind of hoping this climaxes in a shouting match.

I'm A Little Bit Scared That All The "Well, Linda's Kind Of Racist But She's Not Like An Overt White

I'm a little bit scared that all the "Well, Linda's kind of racist but she's not like an overt white supremacist" stuff is going to get thrown out the window here by having her just completely and uncritically accept Amber as the superior girlfriend choice for Walky despite Walky and Amber's best efforts and the inherent in-her-face ludicrousness of Walky having a different girlfriend than he did twenty minutes ago.

And yet at the same time, I kind of hope Walky's dad is the one who uncritically accepts Amber. Charles Walkerton has been a complete nonentity this entire comic and he has the potential to do an extremely funny twist right now.

On the subject of Alan Moore, do you think there's any truth to the idea that superheroes promote fascism? Because Secret Empire missed a golden opportunity to have a debate about it.

Short answer no. Long answer superheroes are a power fantasy about heroic figures stopping evildoers in various forms - the greedy, the uncaring, the murderous. They utilize their abilities for the common good in an unorthodox manner outside of the traditional systems of authority and law, and while such manners could certainly turn and BECOME fascistic, there is nothing inherent about it that is fascistic, but rather an understanding that law and order is the BEGINNING of justice - not the end of it - and that frequently the systems we have in place are unjust or that those who deserve punishment are escaping it because of an imperfect - or even completely corrupt - system. And as I said, those same ideologies CAN turn fascistic in various ways because ultimately superheroes are human just as much as anyone else and therefore imperfect. But the idea of someone putting on a costume and assuming a new identity in order to right wrongs and protect the innocent is, in my opinion, a rejection of authoritarian power structures and instead a form of protest against an imperfect world that created them.

I thought of something. Belos and Luz might also be foils in the sense of male isekai protagonists vs female isekai protagonists.

Belos resembles both male isekai protagonists in modern anime and the classic escapist hero like John Carter or Flash Gordon. These guys have some...questionable overtones sometimes, especailly the classic escapist hero type.

Take John Carter. In the John Carter of Mars books, he's a strong and powerful white man. When he's ieskai'd to Mars, he's gifted with the ability to "jump good" (along with telepathy for some reason). This pretty much allows him to power through the plot with zero effort and becomes the king of Mars by taking power for himself by beating people up and straight up killing them. (Did I mention he's a massive Gary Stu?) He constantly boasts about how strong, handsome and awesome he is like a Gaston in his narration. (Did I mention this is told in first person?) Add in the fact that he's a Confederate General along with the colonizer overtones with this whole situation (ie a white dude conquering and taking power from a place where he's not native to), and you can see how fucked up of a story John Cater is and how that type of character could be twisted to become the villain in a modern tale.

John Carter influenced a lot of genres, even indirectly in the case of something like My Hero Academia along with a lot of superheroes in general, including male leads in modern isekai anime. Even in modern anime they tend to be like that as well due to that adding to the wish fulfillment fantasy on its target audience of teenaged boys. Think Kirito (in the fact that's an OP Gray Stu, not goals), Ainz Ooal Gown, Sora or Diablo. (Though there are exceptions like Naofumi, Subaru and Slime-kun.)

Belos resembles these male leads in the sense that he is always power hungry. He took power by force, becoming the emperor, and puts on the façade of being a hero the people their need. He also might've gave himself a curse in pursuit of more power. If the theory about him being Phillip and not being of that world is true, that means that he did that all the while being a white newcomer to a fantasy universe.

Female isekai leads are not like that. Modern female isekai leads work hard to obtain their goals. A lot of them have more grounded and personal goals like becoming a librarian, survival or trying to get past all of the death flags in the video game they were reincarnated in. Older isekai female heroines like Alice and Dorthey have to make the hard choice of whether or not they want to go home.

Luz is never interested in conquering the Boiling Isles. Or even gaining a ton of power. She enjoys being there, seeing it as an escape from her dull life. She's instead just fascinated about the world around her and wants to learn how to do do her own brand of magic while abiding by its rules, wanting to gain friends along the way. Like those older heroines, she must ultimately decide if she stay or go.

If this is what Dana had in mind while creating Belos, major kudos to her. Because it's interesting commentary on the genre. It's fun to see those two different style of leads clash.
