Concept: a Metroidvania where the very first item you get is a fuckoff ridiculous megagun with all the bells and whistles, like it shoots clustered homing explosive shots that pass through walls and turn dead monsters into ice statues or whatever, but the twist is that it’s a puzzle-focused game, and having all those features turned on at once makes the gun an incredible pain in the ass to use: the powerful shots utterly destroy switches rather than activating them; killing an obstructing enemy just leaves the passage blocked by the ice statue it leaves behind; one boss is impossible to attack directly because the homing behaviour keeps going for the minions it spawns; and so forth.
Each “upgrade” you receive for the gun is actually just a page from its user’s manual that teaches the player character how to turn one of its features off. The puzzle-solving focus is figuring out what specific combination of gun features you need to have turned on in order to overcome each obstacle, with gating implemented via puzzles that are initially impossible because they require you to turn off a gun feature you haven’t learned how to toggle yet.
For extra fun, maybe some gun features have multiple modes, and before you’ve learned how to configure them yourself them they’ll sometimes “randomly” switch modes in response to specific events; e.g., the initial freeze-ray effect is part of a suite of features that also includes a heat-ray, and sometimes it flips from one to the other for no obvious reason. The triggering events would always be stupid and inconvenient, like making the gun switch from charge mode to full-auto requires you to get it wet or something, so learning to to manually control it remains beneficial from a utility standpoint.
(There would be exactly one late-game puzzle where the answer to “which gun features do I need to turn on for this?” really is “all of them”, just to mess with the player’s mind.)
Eating while on shift is not permitted, staff are told. “If the system detects no keyboard stroke and mouse click, it will show you as idle for that particular duration, and it will be reported to your supervisor. So please avoid hampering your productivity.”
A training video about the webcam system, seen by the Guardian, says it “monitors and tracks real-time employee behaviour and detects any violations to pre-set business rules, and sends real-time alerts to managers to take corrective actions immediately”.
Capitalism is so exhausting

ok but legitimately i think the reason why kids aren’t taking internet safety seriously is because the people who are telling us not to put our personal information out seem so out of touch. no one acknowledges the possibility of meeting very real teenaged friends online, they always say that everyone you meet is a 40 year old white man in disguise. because they aren’t acknowledging things we know are true, it becomes a lot easier to dismiss the rest of what they’re saying as well. internet safety lessons absolutely must keep up with the times and acknowledge the internet’s capacity for good if you want kids to take to heart warnings about its capacity for bad.
