Febuwhump Prompt - Spiked Drink
Prompt - âAll you have to do is believe in your senses, just do that.â
You were in desperate need of a break. It felt like you had been staring at the same four walls of the library for weeks now, youâd hardly seen your friends, seen even less of your boyfriend and were relieved that finals were finally over.
The first weekend after finals were done found you in your dorm, adding the finishing touches to yourself before you grabbed your keys and phone and made your way out of the room with your friends ready to celebrate one of their birthdays.
Peter had been invited but had declined, saying he still had his own studies. Youâd felt put out by that, not having seen him properly for two or so weeks but knew school came first.
The club was loud and packed as your group walked in, making your way to the bar and ordering a few drinks so none of you had to queue up again before making quick work of them all. It wasnât long before you were on the dance floor with them, rolling your eyes and smacking off a guy who wrapped his arms around your waist.
You glanced back and watched him glare at you, even with the alcohol in your system something about him set your senses on edge but you shrugged it off as your friend held another drink out for you.
You couldnât say for sure just how long you stayed on the dance floor, more drinks being pushed into your hand without you even checking who was handing them to you, but eventually you felt light headed.
You figured it was a mix of the flashing lights, alcohol and loud music so headed to the bar and slurred out a request for some water. By the time youâd drained the cup you turned around, back to the dance floor, and tried to find your friends but couldnât see any of them with the lights and fog.
You swayed dangerously, grabbing hold of the bar as you felt sick build up in your stomach, burning your throat and with a glance at the line for the bathroom you steadied yourself before stumbling out of the front door, sighing in relief at the fresh air.
The bouncer at the door caught you as you wobbled again, held you up as you giggled and took your shoes off blaming your lack of balance on them before walking further away from the club, glad to have a moment to yourself.
You let your eyes fall closed and leaned your head back against a brick wall, begging the world to stop spinning and missing the guy who walked over to you and pulled you forward, far enough so that he could wrap his arm around your shoulder, tugging you into his chest.
You frowned as you pried your eyes open, though it was difficult as they felt so heavy but you managed and saw a man youâd only seen once before, it was the man from back in the club, the one who had tried to dance with you but got shrugged off instead.
You tried pushing against his chest but couldnât lift your arms as they suddenly felt like weights against your side and you could only groan as the man pulled you along.
âHey, she ok?â You heard somebody ask and saw the bouncer who had held you up.
âThink sheâs had too much to drink,â The guy told him, an easy, charming smile making its way onto his face as he pulled you closer to him, âSheâs my girlfriend, Iâll see that she gets home safe.â
You looked at the bouncer through half lidded eyes, in your head you were screaming at him, begging and pleading with him to get you away from the stranger. In your head you were pushing away from the man and running far away.
All the bouncer saw was a concerned boyfriend who was taking his girlfriend home after one too many. So with a smile he bid them goodnight and went back to his post.
âCome along, darlinâ.â He said into your ear causing you to whine, begging for somebody to help you.
The man led you away, far enough so that the music from the nightclub couldnât be heard before he roughly shoved you into an empty alleyway, pinning you up against the wall like it was the easiest thing in the world.
In your head you were screaming at him, clawing at his face but in reality your head lulled back to hit the wall as your vocal cords became useless and your hands lay limp at your side.
Somewhere in the distance a man sat on a rooftop, legs thrown over the edge as he chewed on a hotdog, ears honing in on anybody needing trouble but it seemed like it was a quiet night tonight.
He sat up straighter and tilted his head as he listened, trying to determine whether something was wrong or if it was just a drunk couple taking advantage of a dark alleyway. He heard no other sound but something was telling him that whatever was happening wasnât right, his spidey senses were screaming at him to at least check it out.
He stood up and flung himself off the roof top, chewing the last of his hot dog as he swung the few blocks over, landing with an inaudible thud before creeping closer to the alley, not wanting to get caught if it was just a couple.
It was dark out but heâd recognise you anywhere, he watched as a guy kissed your neck, letting his hands trail the length of your body and you stood there, motionless. Peter paused for a moment, his blood running cold before he jumped into action.
âShe looks a little drunk for that, donât you think man?â Peter asked, watching as the man startled and moved away from you an inch causing you to sway forward dangerously but the man caught you, turning on the boyfriend act and honestly if Peter didnât know you, if he wasnât your boyfriend then he might have actually believed this guy.
âHey weâre not hurting anyone, she just gets a little frisky when sheâs had a drink.â The guy grinned.
âRight, right, my bad,â He said, holding his hands up and watching as the man nodded at him, âone more thing though,â Peter said, taking a step closer to the man before drawing his fist back and letting it connect with the guys face, using enough strength to send him flying to the opposite wall and hitting it with a painful crack before the slumped down on the floor, Peter webbing him up quickly.
Peter caught you just before you could fall, wrapping his arms around your waist and letting his forehead rest on top of your head. Peter smiled sadly as you whined against him, obviously trying to push him away but not doing more than swaying gently.
âYouâre ok, baby,â Peter murmured, âI got you, letâs get you home.â
Your dorm was thankfully only a few blocks away and Peter pulled your keys out, unlocking the door as he guided you into the room before leading you over to the bed and setting you down as gently as he could, watching as you looked up at him with unseeing eyes.
âYouâre alright, yeah, I got you Y/N/N,â Peter let all thoughts of secret identities go out of the window as he took his mask off and lay next to you, pulling you into his arms and bringing you in close.
âGo to sleep, Y/N, nobody can hurt you, I promise.â Peter continued whispering against your hair, whispered praise, whispered soft reassurances and nonsense words and kept talking well after youâd fallen asleep.
It took great effort to pull himself out of your bed but he managed it, pulling the suit off and changing into a pair of his sweatpants he pulled out of your closet, convinced more than half of his closet was in your own.
He made sure the door was locked and pulled the trash can close to the bed in case you needed it, he also grabbed a box of pills and filled a glass of water up, placing it on the nightstand before he crawled back into bed with you, tucking you against his chest and holding you close, falling asleep without meaning to.
Peter woke up the next morning when he heard a groan followed by the sound of you throwing up. He sat up with a grimace, seeing you leant over the bed and making use of the trash can he had left there.
You almost smiled as you felt a hand rub comfortingly up and down your back as Peter rested his forehead on your shoulder, placing a soft kiss to the skin. You didnât know how long you spent being sick but eventually you sat up, Peter wiping your face on the blanket before he reached over to grab the glass of water, holding it to your lips.
You drank it gratefully and drank some more with the pills he had given you, hoping they would settle both the queasiness in your stomach and the pounding in your head.
âCan I get you anything else?â Peter murmured softly as you curled up against his chest with a shake of your head.
âThank you,â You croaked out and relaxed as he kissed your head. âWhat happened? What are you doing here?â
Peter stilled for a second before he went back to rubbing your back. You didnât remember last night, you didnât remember being spikedâŠyou didnât remember he was Spider-Man.
âYou called me, remember?â Peter lied, feeling bad but it was better than the truth. âSaid some guy had been creeping you out at the club, you must have gotten separated from the girls and he spiked your drink.â
Peter hugged you close as you squeezed your eyes shut but some tears escaped, falling onto his chest.
âYouâre ok, I got to you in time, youâre safe, I got you.â Peter told you softly, kissing your head again as he murmured more assurances as you nodded into his chest, taking a deep breath after a few minutes before relaxing in his hold.
âThank you.â You murmured tiredly, letting your hand trace his chest, eyes feeling heavy again as you let them shut.
âYou never have to thank me,â Peter told you, just as quiet as your words have been but they held so much honesty that you couldnât help but smile, âNever.â
Peter watched as you fell asleep again, running his fingers up and down your spine as he swore to himself he would never let you go through this again, glad heâd trusted his senses and got to you before anything terrible happened.

Febuwhump Prompt - blood loss
Prompt - âA world without you seemed impossible.â
You found yourself pacing the length of the room, getting lost in the repetitive motion of back and forth, back and forth. The dread of what was to come invaded your mind, you were unable to think about anything else. It felt like every time you closed your eyes all you could see was a pale, lifeless body lying there covered in blood.
You felt yourself shuddering as the image assaulted your mind once more.
You couldnât say how much time had passed before a hand on your shoulder startled you. Your head snapped around to see Rick standing there, a kind smile on his face that did nothing to hide his own worry.
âHeâs gonna be okay.â He told you but you could see how he doubted his own words.
Shaking your head, your bit your lip not wanting to direct your anger and fear at the wrong person. Youâd seen Daryl hurt plenty of times, youâd been with him since the beginning, youâd seen him bleeding from deep wounds or simply covered in bruises but thisâŠthis was different.
This time you didnât know if heâd survive.
Inside the clinic Denise worked hard to sew him back together, desperately doing what she could without an entire hospital supply room to support her. You and Rick had long been kicked out of the room, distracting her as you watched every move she made.
âYou donât know that.â Was all you managed to say, eyes flickering over to the closed door.
Daryl and a small group had headed out that morning on what should have been an easy supply run and returned hours later laying a bloody Daryl on the floor as they called for help. At that point you couldnât see the injuries that were hidden by clothing but there was no hiding the blood that had stained most of his shirt.
You had watched as the gates opened, stood frozen once you saw him before running over to the growing group as fast as you could, cupping Darylâs cheeks in your hands, desperately pleading with him to wake up. Rick was the one who pulled you away so they could get him up to the clinic.
Watching as he was stripped had you turning pale and your stomach twisting as you saw the wounds. There were deep slashes scattered across his torso, bruises forming in the shape of boots. You choked on a sob as Rick cupped the back of the head, hiding your face in his chest as you continued to cry.
It wasnât long until the two of you were told to wait outside and neither of you were planning on leaving any time soon.
The hours dragged by, youâd gone from restless and pacing to collapsing into the chair beside Rick, the man smiling sympathetically at you as he wrapped an arm around you, pulling you into his chest.
The two of you sat in silence, neither having any comforting words for the other as you waited for any news on the man you both loved. Despite everything youâd been through since the apocalypse started you could honestly say this was one of the worst moments, completely helpless and not knowing whether the man who had been by your side since the beginning, the man who was the only reason you had survived this long, the man who had grumbled and muttered when you followed him from the walker infested warehouse but had somehow along the way ended up falling for you, would survive or not.
A world without Daryl Dixon seemed impossible.
The door to the clinic opening pulled you out of your thoughts as your head snapped up to see an exhausted looking Denise standing there, her mouth opening and closing a few times but no words came out.
You felt your blood run cold, mind jumping to one conclusion at her lack of words. Your eyes pooled with tears but thankfully Rick spoke up before you could spiral much further.
âDenise,â He prompted softly, not sure if he wanted to hear the next words out of her mouth either.
âHeâs stable,â She started with causing you to let out a sob of relief, your hand covering your mouth. âBut I canât make any promises, Rick. He could be fine or it could be touch and go.â
You blocked out the rest of her words, the only ones you needed to hear were that he was stable, he was alive. Thatâs all that mattered. Daryl wouldnât die, he couldnâtâŠheâd be fine.
He had to be fine.
âYou can see him now.â You heard Denise say, Rick and you both standing before making your way into the room.
You paused in the doorway, more tears falling from your eyes as you looked at him. He looked completely lifeless, skin almost grey as he lay there, shirtless and bandaged up. Needles poked into him as they gave him what he needed to stay alive.
You forced a shaky smile up at Rick as he lay a comforting hand on your shoulder before you walked further into the room and took a seat on the edge of the plastic chair next to the bed.
Youâd never seen him like this and you were terrified, hesitating as you lifted your hand, scared that one touch would be all it took before the heart monitor beeped to nothing. You closed your eyes and gently took his hand in yours, waiting for something to happen and breathing out a sigh of relief as nothing did.
âDaryl,â You whispered, leaning down and resting your lips against his hand before pressing a lingering kiss to them. âPlease wake up, you have to wake up.â You pleaded with the unconscious man, aware your words would have very little effect but needing to say something.
You looked up as you heard another chair scrap on the other side of the room and watched as Rick sat opposite you, mirroring you as he took Darylâs hand in his.
âYou heard the lady,â Rick smiled, âYou gotta wake up, brother.â
You and Rick sat together in near silence for the night, neither one of you wanting to leave the other or Daryl alone. It was a long night and lonely night when Daryl failed to move but you were glad to have a friend.
Days continued to pass without a hint of movement from Daryl. The whole time you refused to move from his side, Rick had to after the first night, too many duties to attend to but if it were up to him heâd have been in that room with the two of you. Though he did stop by often enough to make sure that you were taking care of yourself.
Which you werenât.
You werenât holding up and as each day passed you felt yourself losing hope. Food wasnât even a thought in your mind and if it wasnât for Rick stopping by several times a day with food then you knew you wouldnât have eaten anything, even with Rickâs help you only had a few bites at most a day.
Thankfully some of the colour had started to return to Darylâs face even if he had yet to wake up, Denise said that was a good thing, his body was working on healing itself. It showed Daryl was fighting.
He was also taking to the blood transfusion that she had had to administer. She spoke about red blood cell transfusion, gave you the rundown of the procedure but you tuned her out, could hardly stand to listen to her talk about how much blood Daryl had lost, about how he might still take a turn for the worst.
You spent most of the day just watching him, watching the weak rise and fall of his chest, watching his heart beat on the monitor, watching his eyes to see if there was even a flicker of movement. If you hadnât had Daryl memorised before you did know, you knew the man like the back of your hand, hell better than that.
There hadnât been a day that passed in which you hadnât cried. Everyday that hope faded more and more until it felt like you were drowning. You refused to let go of Daryl's hand, praying that youâd feel it twitch one of these days, praying heâd curl his fingers around yours. Darylâs hand in yours felt like an anchor, the one thing that kept you holding on.
âHowâs he doing today?â Rick asked as he walked into the clinic, smiling sadly as you didnât even look up at him.
You only had eyes for Daryl.
âSame as yesterday and the day before.â You said bitterly, wanting him to get better so you could leave and get your hands on the Saviours.
Rick watched your emotions play out on your face, understanding what you were feeling all too well. He wanted to rip the face of every saviour, wanted Neganâs head on a stick but he knew they had to be smart, knew that if they struck now theyâd lose. Negan would be expecting them.
Rick was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard you let out a surprised gasp, he looked to you, a question on his lips when he paused, watching as your eyes lit up for the first time in nearly a week.
âHey,â You said, huffing a laugh of absolute disbelief, âYouâre ok, youâre ok,â You repeat like a mantra.
The feeling of Darylâs fingers tightening around your own was just about the best feeling in the world. The complete feeling of relief that ran throughout your body made you feel lighter than you had in days, like a weight had been suddenly and breathtakingly removed from your back.
Rick watched in amazement as his best friend scrunched his eyes closed hard before he tried to pry them out, Y/N watching his every move like a hawk. It took a few attempts before Daryl managed to open his eyes, blinking against the harsh lights before his eyes settled on you.
At this point your eyes were filled, yet again, with tears but this time they were tears of disbelief, tears of happiness, tears of fear as you realised how close youâd come to losing the most important person in your life.
âY/N,â He managed to grumble out before he started coughing, causing you to move, quickly grabbing your cup of water and guiding it up to his lips, helping him get the water down carefully.
Once he was finished you put the cup back and moved yourself onto the bed, being careful of his torso as you did so. He looked up at you, immediately noticing the dark circles under your eyes and the worry that was written across your face plain as day.
âYa need tâsleep, baby.â He croaked out causing you to let out a watery laugh, the man nearly died and here he was still more worried about you than he was himself.
âNeeded to make sure you were ok.â You told him, letting your hand gently reach up and cup his cheek, smiling shakily as he leaned into the touch.
âMâokay.â He assured you, turning his face into your palm and placing a soft, barely there kiss upon it.
âYou nearly died.â You told him with a choked sob, desperately trying to swallow down tears.
Darylâs gaze shifted from you over to Rick, who stood forgotten by the door feeling like an intruder. Rick shot him a shaky smile which was returned weakly before Daryl turned his attention back to you.
âSâgonna be ok, gonna get the bastards.â He told you, watching as laughed and nodded along with his words. âBut you gotta sleep, darlinâ.â
Those words had you falling in love with the man all over again, this idiotic, absolutely selfless man who put you before him every single day, even when he was practically on his death bed only days ago.
You couldnât help but smile at him, a smile that was only reserved for him, eyes soft and lips upturned with a tilt of your head. It was the smile Daryl loved most, one only he could draw from you.
Carefully you leaned down, your lips brushing against his so softly. It was exactly what you needed, the feelings of his lips moving against yours, proof he was alive. You could finally breathe properly.
Eventually you pulled back, resting your forehead on his, causing him to smile up at you. He managed to lift his hand up, barely hiding a wince from you, and rested it on your cheek, letting his fingertips run along your cheekbone.
âI love you,â you whispered, swallowing hard around the lump in your throat, he was ok.
âI love you too, darlinâ.â He told you, just as softly, the two of you in your own little world, so absorbed in each other you didnât notice Rick slipping out of the room with a smile of his own, glad that his two best friends had found each other whilst the world around you went to hell.

Febuwhump Prompt - Black Eye
Prompt - âIt's been a rough few days and nothing sounds better than falling asleep in your arms.â
The air around you was hot, too hot, to the point where you could feel the sweat dripping off you. The heat, it was never a good thing when mixed with exhaustion and today was no exception as you listened as the group argued amongst themselves, glancing back at you every so often as you sat with your hands cuffed to the chair.
âIâm tellinâ ya she knows âim.â One of the men insisted, pointing over at you like that would help make his point.
âMan, Iâm tired of hearing your damn voice. Weâve been at this for two days, she ainât saying shit and Castle ainât cominâ for her.â Another said as he pushed against the first man's chest.
âYou wanna do that again?â The first man said, stepping forward only to be shoved back by the man you assumed was in charge.
âShut the hell up, the pair of ya,â He snapped before he walked over to you and squatted down. From here you could see the beads of sweat on his own forehead. âNow girly, we donât wanna be hurting ya but the thing is Frank Castle hurt a lot of my men so now I gotta deal with that, you understand, right sweetheart?â
You licked your looks, raising an eyebrow at the man before you tilted your head back only to bring it smashing down against his seconds later, eyes scrunching in pain as you pulled away before you pried them open to see the man on the floor holding his bleeding nose.
âOh, youâre gonna regret that doll.â He warned you, spitting out a mouthful of blood as his friends helped him stand.
âCall me doll again and youâll be the one regretting it.â You snarled, tugging against your restraints as you cursed the day you ever met Frank Castle whilst also begging for him to hurry up and find you.
âI like you, such a feisty thing ainât ya? Too bad I gotta kill ya, slowly, painfully, coulda been nice, keepinâ ya around.â He said, brushing a strand of hair from your face causing you to lean back as far as you could with a glare. âHell, Iâll make ya a deal, just tell me about the big, bag Punisher and I let you go.â
âI already told you,â You repeated for the twenty fifth time in the past two days, âI donât know Frank Castle.â
âYa expecting me to believe that, are ya? No, no, no, ya see I know ya lying to me, girly, my man said he saw Castle sneaking in and outta ya apartment, so no more bullshit now, alright? Just tell us where he is.â The man said and you didnât even bother to respond, just shifted in your seat as you stared up at him, defiantly jutting your chin out causing him to grin.
âYa really are a tough little thing, ainât ya?â He told you before he swung his fist back and let it connect to your face, a pained cry leaving your lips as his brass knuckles connected with your cheek, cutting into the skin as blood leaked from the wounds.
âThat was just a warning.â He told you before his fist hit your cheek once more as you desperately tried to blink back tears, face scrunched up in pain as you felt more blood pool around the cuts and slide down your cheeks.
Frank smashed the low lifeâs race against the brick wall before dragging him back using the strong grip he had on the guy's hair.
âIâm only gonna ask you this once more,â Frank murmured into his ear, âWhoâs looking for me?â
The guy denied all knowledge once again and Frank grinned.
âAlright,â he said, pulling the guy's head back and getting ready to smash it against the wall again.
âWait, wait, wait, maybe I know somethinâ.â He said, causing Frank to pause just before his face connected with the wall. âYeah, yeah, The Punisher right, sâwhat theyâre callinâ you, yeah maybe some guys were talking bout you.â
âWhat guys?â Frank asked, losing his patience, two days of punching, shooting and killing people in this heat wave and he was still no closer to finding you.
He knew, he knew he shouldâve been more careful, knew he should never have got involved with you because something like this was always going to happen.
âI donât know,,â he said and Frank pulled his head back and the guy began sputtering again, âwhoa hold up man, hold up, they were British right, they were British, sâall I know, sâall I know, sâall I know.â
Frank threw the guy on the ground and turned away, walking away with his guns drawn knowing exactly who had taken you.
It didnât take him long to pull up to a bar, flinging the doors open and standing in the doorway with his gun raised. The room fell silent as the bartender raised a hand non threateningly, the other reaching beneath the bar.
âWe donât want any trouble.â He said, British accent filling the silence.
âYouâre gonna tell me where she is and youâre gonna tell me now.â Frank said quietly, calmly, shooting a bullet into the manâs shoulder as he drew his own gun.
âI said,â he said, pressing the gun against the guyâs chest, âyouâre gonna tell me where she is.â
âHey, I donât know who youâre talking about!â He protested.
âThe guys following me took my girl, I donât appreciate that much, so youâre gonna tell me where theyâre hiding her or Iâm gonna kill you, slowly, maybe I start by cutting off your fingers one at a time-â
âAlright, alright, their secrets arenât worth my life,â the bartender gave in easily, raising his hands, âthereâs a warehouse, not too far from here, thatâs where theyâre holdinâ her, I swear.â
Frank got the directions before he headed out of the bar, slamming the door of his van shut as he hit the gas, breaking every speeding law but that was the best of his long list of crimes.
You watched as the man lifted a pair of pliers off the work table before he crouched down in front of you.
âNow dear, this is only gonna hurt a hell of a lot.â He told you with a grin before he placed the pliers under one of your fingernails and began to pull, causing you to let out a scream.
Frank climbed out of the car, freezing as he heard your scream echo from somewhere inside the building. It took him a second to shake himself into action, grabbing his guns and making quick, but quiet, work of sneaking into the warehouse, hating that he had to follow the sound of your screams.
You withered against the restraints as your fingernails were pulled off, slowly and painfully, throwing you head back in agony. As the man moved onto the next fingernail you bucked up against the seat, trying to move any part of your body but you couldnât, ankles and wrists tied to the chair and you let out another scream, sobbing loudly as you pleaded with him to stop, begging him.
âYou want it to stop?â He laughed, shoving his face under yours. âAll you have to do is tell me where the big, bad punisher is.â
You sobbed, panting for breath at the short break you were given before you shook your head, mouthing the word ânoâ repeatedly but no sound came out.
âNo, no,â he laughed, looking down at you in disbelief before over to the others in the room. âYou believe this girl? Tough bitch.â
You started screaming again as he took one of your nailless finger tips in his hand, squeezing down painfully before the sound of gunshots filled the room.
You looked up, forcing your eyes open before slumping in your seat in utter relief as you watched Frank shoot down the men in the room before he marched over and grabbed the man hurting you, throwing him up against the wall and aiming the gun right between his eyes.
âYou think you can touch my girl?â He snarled, pressing the gun painfully against the guy's head causing him to try and shake it off but Frank was giving him no room to move. âHey, you think just cause you got beef with me that means you can touch my girl!â
âHey, relax, sheâs fine.â The guy said, making things worse for himself.
âOh sheâs fine is she?â Frank asked sarcastically, âYeah cause the way I see it is my girls strapped to a chair, missing two fingernails and sporting some nasty cuts and a black eye, so you wanna tell me sheâs fine again?â
The guy realised he had no way out, his men were dead on the floor and heâd pissed Frank Castle off big time. So he whimpered pathetically as he began begging for his life but Frank just smirked at him.
âYou know, youâre real lucky my girl needs me right now otherwise Iâd make you suffer, Iâd hurt you the way you hurt her and then some but she needs me so I guess a good olâ fashion bullet is just gonna have to do the trick.â
âNo, no, no, please, please.â The guyâs cries were silenced as the sound of a single gunshot echoed around the room before Frank turned to you, crouching in front of you and cupping your injury free cheek.
âHey, youâre alright baby, Iâm here.â Frank kept up his steady, soft stream of reassuring words as he freed you of your restraints before helping you stand, wrapping your arm around him as he took your weight and practically carried you out of the room.
The drive home was silent as you clung to Frankâs hand, his thumb brushing over your skin comfortingly and it wasnât long before you were at his apartment and being led to his bedroom and settled gently in the bed, sat up with the covers around you.
Frank was gentle as he cleaned your fingers, pressing kisses around the skin when you winced and whimpered then he turned his attention to your face. He was careful as he cleaned the cuts, thankful that they were only shallow and only needed a quick clean.
He let his thumb brush just below your bruised eyes, wincing as you winced.
âIâm so, so sorry, baby.â He murmured, eyes wide as he took in your injuries. âI never should have let this happen, told you you were better off without me and let you talk me around.â
âHey, youâre not getting rid of me, Frank.â You laughed shakily and he let out a huff of laughter because here you were in pain and injured because of him and instead of feeling sorry for yourself which you had every right to do you were taking his hand in his and looking up at him with a comforting smile.
âShould let me go,â He said quietly, shifting so he lay next to you with his head resting on your hair and his arms around you, âshould tell me to walk out of that damn door and never come back.â
âOr I could tell you that Iâve had a really hard few days and all I want to do is fall asleep with you next to me.â You said, pulling back to tilt your head up at him.
He couldnât help the soft smile that pulled on his lips before he leaned down to press a kiss to your forehead, letting his lips linger there for a few moments before he pulled away and helped you lay down, taking you back into his arms and holding you close, mindful of your injuries.
âNever gonna let you out of my sight again.â He mumbled into your hair, smiling at the soft chuckle you let out as you cuddled closer to him.
âSounds good to me.â You told him sleepily, feeling your eyelids blinking closed and not having the energy to open them again.
âGo tâsleep, baby, Iâm right here.â And you did as the man said because despite everything you knew there was no safer place than at Frank Castleâs side.

Prompt - âBecause losing her would mean losing yourself.'
The first thing Matt took notice of as he walked back into his apartment was the pulsing on the neon from the billboard outside before he focused in on you. He could hear your heartbeat and your breathing both keeping a steady pace that let him know you were asleep. Hearing you shift as the door shut gently, Matt chuckled to himself, no idea how you could fall asleep with the light show outside seeping into his living room.
He hadnât been gone long either, only stepping out for five minutes to walk Claire down to the street after she had, once again, helped him out. The two of them exchanged words before he headed back up to you.
The Devil and you had crossed paths long ago, first before Fisk had been arrested and since then the two of you teaming up happened regularly enough that a friendship had been formedâŠok so maybe Matt wanted more than just a friendship but how could he not? How could he listen to your laugh, a laugh that was able to flip his mood in a matter of seconds, a laugh that felt like a summer's day, how could he listen to you ramble on for hours on stake outs and not fall for you?
He didnât need to see you to know you were beautiful. Matt didnât have a mental picture of you in his head, not one like he wanted as he hadnât had the chance to trail his fingers delicately across your features, the chance to cup your face in his hands, a chance to feel the way you smiled under them. He couldnât even ask Foggy what you looked like as every picture captured of you showed the suit you wore, like him your face was hidden from the world, the all black fabric helped you blend into the night so the media had, rather creatively, dubbed you Shadow.
Matt remembered the first time you had been written about, how you waved the paper in his face as you told him the name youâd been given.
âShadow?â You laughed as the two of you sat together on a rooftop, legs dangling over the edge as the sounds of the city passed. âI mean out of all the names they could have chosen, Shadow? A bit on the nose, right?â
âI donât know,â Matt said, grinning ahead, âIt does suit you, I mean now that I think about it you are like my own shadow.â
He was fully prepared for the smack to the chest he received for that one but Matt didnât need to see you to know you were smiling too.
Tonight had been bad.
Matt hadnât heard from you for a few days, the two of you had burner phones with only the other's number saved to it. Most nights you found each other in the middle of a fight or perched on a rooftop. After three or so days Matt had begun to worry that you had gotten hurt, surely you would have called him though?
After a bit of digging he finally got a lead, apparently you were investigating a human trafficking ring that had recently popped up in the Kitchen and they didnât like that you were getting too close.
Nobody had seen you since.
It hadnât taken Matt long from there to get a location, panic running through him but he pushed it down and focused all his senses on finding you. He couldnât lose you, not when he had gotten so little time with you. His blood ran cold at the thought of finding you dead, no grounding heartbeat for him to listen to, no laugh or small touches.
Frankâs words about Matt being one bad day away from turning into him seemed to hit a bit too close right now and he forced the words from his head.
Matt shook his head, forcing himself to focus as he took out the guards at the front of an abandoned building. He could count at least ten more heartbeats inside and froze for a moment, titling his head as he listened to each one, desperately hoping that one of them was yours.
There, he thought, it was unsteady and weak but it was yours. You were still alive but Matt could hear your breathing was also laboured and with that he made quick work of taking out the rest of guards before following your heartbeat.
Matt found the room you were in and didnât hesitate to push the door open with a loud bang, shocking the lone guard who had been left with you. He used the man's shock to his advantage and with a quick few punches the man was out cold.
He didnât waste any time turning his attention to you, kneeling down in front of you and untying your hands. At this point you could barely keep your eyes open, it hurt to breathe but you pushed through the pain to look at the Devil who rescued you.
âItâs good to see you, D.â You whispered, voice strained from screaming.
Matt let out a wet chuckle as he heard your breathing, determining you had at least three cracked ribs. He finally let his hands trail your body starting at your wrists and wincing at the cuts, he gently ran his hands up your arms, feeling more cuts and forming bruises, before he came to your shoulders.
âDonât you ever scare me like that again.â He said just as softly, voice thick with emotion as he let himself touch your face.
He started by placing his hands on your jawline before moving up to cup your cheeks. He felt your lips twitch into a smile followed by a hiss of pain and a metallic smell that told him youâd reopened your split lips. Before he pulled away he let his thumb trace your cheekbone, smiling himself as he felt you lean into the touch.
âLetâs get out of here.â He said, gently helping you to stand before taking your weight as he led you from the building, burner phone already in his hand as he called for Claire.
âDidnât I stitch you back together yesterday?â She asked as soon as she picked up the phone, causing Matt to smile.
âItâs not me this time,â Matt told her, frowning as you let out a soft groan.
âYou found her?â Claire asked.
âI found her,â he confirmed, âmy place is closer if you-â
âIâll meet you there.â She told him before saying goodbye.
Thankfully it wasnât a long walk and the fresh air was helping you come to faster. Once you were completely aware of your surroundings you froze causing Matt to stumble slightly as he still had you leaning heavily against him.
âShadow?â He asked in concern, tilting his head as he tried to determine if you had aggravated any of your injuries.
âMy mask,â You said, still looking at Matt. Mattâs eyes widened under his own mask as he too realised that you thought he could see your face. âYou know who I am.â
And what was Matt supposed to say? Actually your identity is still a secret because Iâm blind but please donât freak out, yeah thatâd go down well. Though part of him did want to tell you who he was, part of him had been thinking about taking the mask off for a while now. He liked you and he didnât just want to know you as Shadow or have you only know the Devil, he wanted you to incorporate yourself into every part of Matt Murdockâs life and him into your life, he wanted to know everything about you, starting with your name.
Once you were better, Matt promised himself, once you were better heâd tell you who he was. Now his only priority was getting you back to his apartment and into Claireâs hands.
âIâm fine really.â You insisted, watching as the Devil smiled and Claire rolled her eyes.
âIf I donât stitch the wound, itâll just keep bleeding and youâll get an infection, trust me you want to deal with this now.â The nurse told you, ignoring your pout as she leaned closer to you and began closing the wound.
You let out a cry of pain as the needle did its work but Matt sat on the floor next to the sofa, your hand in his, and kept up a steady one-sided conversation that helped distract you.
âA couple of blocks away thereâs a group celebrating a birthday, itâs the boys 21st. Theyâre all singing to him and itâs not bad considering the amount of alcohol in their system,â Matt felt you shift on the sofa so that you were facing him and smiled to himself.
âTwo floors down a baby is crying, sheâs hungry but her mom is really stressed out. She doesnât know what to do so sheâs trying to rock her to sleep. About five blocks to the right a group of students are out drinking after finishing their finals, one of them is sober and making sure another doesnât wander off.â
This was something the two of you had done since you found out exactly what Mattâs abilities were. On the quieter times of your shared moments together you always asked him to tell you about the city and Matt was always more than happy to comply, the two of you laying on a rooftop somewhere and the words whispered only for you to hear. He felt your breathing soften, no longer focused on Claire stitching your torso but solely on Mattâs words, he couldnât fight back the smile as he squeezed your hand.
Claire watched on with a raised eyebrow. It had been so long since sheâd seen Matt like this, oftentimes he was far too stressed and pushing himself to the limit but since this Shadow, since you, came onto the scene Matt had started taking it easier, still doing his job but there was a softness to him now. So when he showed up bruised, beaten and bleeding but determined to get back out there she had been scared for him. Finding out you had gone missing was enough to send Matt spiralling so she hated to think just how heâd react to finding you dead.
She wasnât sure Matt would survive that.
It wasnât long before Claire was pulling off her gloves and giving you care advice that she just knew you wouldnât follow, not if you were anything like Matt.
âKeep an eye on her, make sure she doesnât rip her stitches.â Claire told Matt as she packed her bag.
âIâll keep her safe.â Matt told her and she didnât doubt those words for even a second. As far as she was concerned you held a lot of power over Matt, if something happened to you that might be the push he needed to cross the line he never wanted to cross.
She watched as you smiled up at Matt, it was a tired smile but my god was it blinding. Claire knew then that as far as you had gotten Matt wrapped around your little finger he was just as tightly wound around yours.
âIâll walk you out,â Matt told her before turning to you, âWill you be okay?â He asked softly and Claire almost felt bad that Matt couldnât see just how you were looking at him.
âFor the few minutes youâll be gone, I think I can manage to stay alive.â You grinned up at him causing him to roll his eyes. âThank you, Claire.â You said, waving at her as the two of them left the apartment, leaving you alone to sink further into the sofa.
You shut your eyes tightly as thoughts of the men who attacked you filled your head and accidentally ended up falling asleep.
âShe likes you, you know?â Claire told him as they walked down the stairs.
âYou think?â He asked, sure he could feel your heartbeat and the way your cheeks flushed but could you like him, was it possible for you to feel the same way he did? âTrust me, if you could see the way she looked at you, youâd have no doubts,â Claire said and the steady beat of her heart showed she meant the words, filling Matt with hope. If Claire didnât think he stood a chance with you she would have told him no matter how much itâd hurt. âYou ever going to show her the person under the mask?â
Matt stayed silent as they descended down another flight of stairs before speaking.
âWhen sheâs better. Sheâs been through enough. The last thing I want is for her to panic over the whole,â Here Matt paused to wave a hand in front of his face, âblind thing.â
âShe knows what you can do.â Claire told him and Matt nodded because sure you knew his abilities but finding out a blind person could do the things he could, it would come as a shock and then youâd panic over him before calming down.
âShe does,â he agreed easily, âbut even without that I canât just go up and tell her now, she canât get up and walk out of my apartment if she wanted to.â
âMatt, listen to me,â Claire said as they came to the door, turning to face him as she spoke, âShe isnât going to leave when you take the mask off, I promise you. Plus sheâs going to be a pain when it comes to healing and cleaning her stitches so sheâs going to need something to take her mind off it. I say you tell her first chance you get. You deserve to be happy, you, Matt Murdock.â
Matt gave her a shaky smile because it was exactly what he needed to hear. There was a part of him that felt selfish but Claire was right, he deserved to be happy and nothing could possibly make him happier than you.
âThank you, Claire.â He said softly.
âIâm glad you found each other.â She told him, tone matching his, and with that she left the apartment building leaving Matt alone with a grin on his face.
As he reentered his apartment, taking in the neon pulsing through the billboard outside and your soft, even breathing, he paused in the entryway, leaning against the wall and just let himself listen to you for a moment. He listened to you breathe, letting him know you were alive, he had saved you before they could do anymore damage. Despite the stitches and the bruises you were ok, you would be ok.
Matt would make sure of it.
With soft steps he made his way over to the sofa and picked you up in his arms, smiling as you curled into him, murmuring words he couldnât catch. He was gentle as he placed you on his bed and wrapped the blanket around you, hesitating for only a moment before he allowed himself to lean down and kiss your head.
Claire was right because of course she was and Matt vowed to show you the man under the mask, vowed to tell you how he felt because he had come too close to losing you.
-
The next morning you woke up with a groan, hand going to your side before pausing and remembering the stitches. As you shifted your eyebrows knitted together as you felt the softness of the sheets and opened your eyes to see what was most definitely not your bedroom.
Hadnât you fallen asleep on the Devilâs sofa?
With a shrug you pulled yourself into a sitting position, wincing at the ache in your torso, before the smell of food invaded your senses and it hit you just how hungry you were. It took a few attempts for you to stand up but you managed and padded out of the bedroom and saw the Devil cooking breakfast.
âMorning.â You said softly.
The Devil turned to smile at you, that smile always made your heart beat faster and never failed to put a smile on your own face. It was one of the first things youâd loved about him.
âGood morning,â He said as he placed the pan on the counter before making his way around to you, hand hovering over your wound before you nodded at him, that was the permission he needed to gently examine the stitches before he pulled away and pulled a chair out for you. âBreakfast will be ready soon.â
It wasnât long before you and Matt were sitting next to each other with a plate of food in front of you. You dug in, not having eaten anything of substance for however long you were captured.
Matt made light conversation though he knew you had picked up on his nervousness. He figured it was best to rip the bandaid off and tell you as soon as possible.
âThereâs something I wanted to tell you, something I should have told you months ago, something that shouldnât have taken me nearly losing you to admit too.â He began and he felt your heartbeat quicken as he did, he didnât know whether it was a good sign or not but heâd started now. âI really like you, Shadow, I have for a long time now. Being with you makes everything feel so much better, you make everything easier. I want you in my life, not just the Devilâs but in mine.â And with that Matt let his hands reach for the mask, your eyes widening as he did, before he gently pulled it off and placed it on the table.
It was silent for far too long in Mattâs opinion, your heartbeat hadnât settled down yet and he could sense your mouth moving but no words came out. He was just about ready to jam the mask back on and pretend all this hadnât happened when you spoke.
âY/N,â You blurted out and Matt could tell it wasnât what you had meant to say but still you continued, âMy nameâs Y/N.â
âMatt.â He told you and, God, didnât his smile look even better now that you could see his whole face, see the way his eyes crinkled and his face lit up. âSo,â Matt began but you cut him off.
âSorry, sorry, I like you too, Matt. I have done for so long and I-Iâm so glad it was you who saved me last night, I wanted it to be you so bad.â You told him, smiling as he leaned forward and cupped your cheek in his hand.
âCan I kiss you?â He whispered, feeling you nod and with that he leaned forward softly pressing your lips together.
The kiss started off slow and soft but eventually it heated up, the kiss conveying all those months of hiding your feelings, making up for all the times you could have kissed but didnât.
Eventually Matt pulled away but didnât didnât go far as he rested his forehead against yours. The silence spread for a long while, the two of you more than happy to stay in your own little bubble where the other was safe.
You broke it though once something clicked in your head now that you had gotten the confession out of the way.
âYouâre blind.â You told him watching as he pulled away from you.
âSo Iâve been told.â He chuckled, feeling slightly self conscious now that he didnât have the mask to cover his eyes but hearing your laugh was enough to push those feelings aside.
âShut up,â you laughed, âMatt Iâve seen what you can do-â
âAnd you know how enhanced my other senses are,â He told you, gently cutting you off. âI donât need sight to see, my other senses make up for it. Like right now I donât need to see you to know that your eyebrows are furrowed together or that you're biting your lip to hold back a smile. I donât need to see you to know that your cheeks are flushed making you look even more adorable.â He said, taking great delight in both your giggle and the gentle smack to his chest.
âYou really canât see?â You asked in amazement.
Matt was right you had seen what he was capable of, the man could do things that people with fully functioning sight couldnât do. His enhanced senses allowed him to easily beat groups of people up without a single gun. You were in awe of his fighting style before, how he always seemed to be two steps ahead of his opponent but now you were even more amazed.
âNot conventionally.â Matt said, causing you to laugh.
âYouâre incredible.â You told him before leaning in to kiss the smirk off his lips.
âYou know Iâll keep you safe right?â Matt asked softly as the two of you pulled away, Mattâs face shifting with the words, he felt you reach up and cup his cheek, recalling the words Foggy used, Matt Murdock wore his emotions on his face. You could see how determined he was to keep his promise, how much it had scared him when youâd gone missing.
So instead of telling him you were more than capable of protecting yourself, something you had always told him when youâd first met before you finally let him past your walls, you nodded.
âYou watch my back, I watch yours, right D?â You questioned back instead because that was the way things were between the two of you, had been for as long as youâd been working together. You protected your Devil and he, well he wouldâŠ
âAlways protect you, my shadow.â He murmured before pulling you in for another kiss that conveyed just how much he meant his words.
