This is the second chapter of our EPIC KotLC crossover. Fitz is Odysseus in this story. (BTW, when I say "second chapter" that means second chapter from the saga, not in total. When we move on to the Cyclops saga, it won't be numbers 6, 7, 8, etc, it'll be starting from one again. If that makes sense.)

As Fitz gazed into the young infant’s eyes, he was hit with a wave of sorrow. It’s been years since I’ve seen my wife and daughter. How will I get home? Will this war ever end?

It will if you kill this child. A cold female voice rang through his head and he rubbed his temples. Athena was still in his head and had been for the whole war. He was honestly getting fed up with her. 

Shush, he told the voice.

The infant, who he knew was called Astyanax, let out a cry. “Close your eyes,” Fitz said helplessly. The wind from the clifftop was fierce, and he was struggling to stay standing. To know that he was about to… 

It’s for the best, Fitz, Athena chimed unhelpfully.

He’s as old as my daughter was when I left for war. Will this keep me up at night? Every man I’ve killed, all this pain? Fitz thought as his eyes flashed from Astyanax to the tall waves hundreds of feet below them.

You know you would trade anything to see your family again. So do it. Kill him! Athena yelled.

“Please don’t make me do this,” he begged, dropping to his knees. When does a man become a monster?

But he did. Fitz leaned over the edge of the cliff, looking straight ahead toward the rising sun as he opened his arms. Astyanax wailed as he plummeted, and it made Fitz’s stomach churn. 

Forgive me.

I’m just a man.
