Tears came easy to Kalim. Not as easy as joy, sure, but it wasn't like it was hard to make him cry.

That didn't mean that he quite understood why he was crying now, though.

He had been looking for you but moments ago, but now, seeing what he had - he knew that wasn't a good idea. He wasn't sure if he would be able to face you and the one you were with again anytime soon. Which was a shame because... he really liked you.

Maybe he hadn't realized exactly how much before now.

But... seeing you with them, affectionately exchanging sweet nothings with pet names tacked on, it... woke something up in him.

Something that burned even as tears ran down his face, and as he flusteredly tried to wipe them away with little success. Something that gnawed at the butterflies in his stomach and swallowed the lump in his throat.

If they were in the way now, he'd just have to fix that, right? How hard could it possibly be?

Kalim would do anything for you. Be anything for you. He just had to make you see that.

october writing prompt #25 - lonely

You never were quite sure what to think of Ruggie.

He put on a brave face, almost constantly, but you could see through it. You could see his frustration at his position, at Leona, even at the campus as a whole.

More than that, though, you could see his loneliness.

You weren’t sure why no one else seemed to notice - maybe they didn’t care, maybe they didn’t know how to help, maybe they just couldn’t see it. It didn’t really matter though.

Not when you could see the pain he held in his heart, and not when you could do something about it.

If no one else would step up to help him, the sweetest boy you knew, then you’d just have to do it yourself.

You tried to start small. Occasionally offering him snacks you ‘couldn’t finish’, or intentionally being roped into helping him with his tasks for the day. You weren’t the most well off either, but you didn’t mind. You were used to sacrificing some for Grim, anyways, what was one more person?

Though, to your displeasure, he must've noticed what you were doing as he started doing the same thing for you.

From the outside looking in, it must have looked like some weird type of courting, the both of you aggressively pushing food on the other with thinly veiled threats if one of you weren't taking care of yourself.

And, soon enough, it even... started to feel like that for the both of you.

Little exchanges at lunchtime became sitting together the whole time, joking threats turned to quick-witted flirting, and excuses for giving food to the other soon dissipated.

All this, to say, you two slowly found yourselves growing closer and closer, affections growing and swelling. It wasn't long until everyone knew how close you were, and, well - Ruggie wasn't lonely anymore, now was he?

Okay, so maybe Deuce couldn't say that he was the best when it came to showing his appreciation for you. He tried though, he really did.

It had seemed like a good idea to get flowers for you - it's what everyone did in the movies, wasn't it? But standing on the doorstep to Ramshackle now, he wasn't quite sure. What if you didn't like them? What if you were allergic?

He wasn't able to get the chance to back out, though, when the door had suddenly swung open and you were right there. Able to see his obvious embarrassment even as he tried to hide the flowers behind his back like they wouldn't stick out.

After a moment of awkward silence, and avoiding your gaze, you broke the silence and giggled.

That was all it took for him to turn red and start rambling about how it wasn't what it looked like, how he was just about to leave, how the whole thing had been a stupid idea - anything to excuse himself.

You dragged him in before he could say anything else, all smiles as you wrapped your arms around him. "This is so cute! I love these - how did you know?"

"Well- uh, I didn't, but I thought maybe? But then I wasn't sure if you'd like them and, um..." Deuce trails off from there, getting wrapped up in hugging you and letting himself finally relax a bit. "...I'm glad you like them."

You hum your agreement, and before he can say anything else, he's getting a kiss on the cheek and tensing up all over again as his face burned.

october writing prompt #23 - secret

Azul liked to think it a secret, how much adoration he held for you.

It didn't mean he was... entirely correct, but he thought it that way. And you were determined to let him keep that peace of mind, acting oblivious and playing like you couldn't see the adoration in his eyes whenever he talked to you.

His comfort was of the upmost importance to you - especially with such a sensitive issue.

Waiting for him to come to you, was truly what you thought would be the best path. But... it had been months, now, and he seemed no less cowardly.

Worrying your bottom lip between your teeth, you tap your fingers against your sides as you stand in the Monstro Lounge, the picture of anxiety as you wait for Azul to call you in to his office.

Of course, that was just the picture you portrayed.

No one else could see the love potion you had tucked in your bag, or how you had prepared for this exact moment.

You had spent all week pouring over how you would do this, how you would make Azul finally act, and how the love potion would react when met with someone that was already in love.

Extensive research is what told you that he would simply fall into a twisted sense of affection - much like your own, if you were honest, and you couldn't find that anything besides perfect.

Who wouldn't want a lover that was just as devoted to you as you were to them?

There would no worry of being cast away, or having misunderstandings, or even having silly things like time or other people come between you. How could they, when you would both do anything for each other?

You had arranged meeting your darling with an excuse of needing help studying - something that you just knew he wouldn't be able to refuse.

Not when you already held his affections, and especially not when you still possessed Ramshackle. He couldn't possibly resist the chance to force you into a deal - not that you would let him, of course, but you would let him think himself sly.

You always were good at playing oblivious... you just hoped it would hold up after you and Azul got togther.
