it's practically taboo to still talk about covid but god i wish we could acknowledge the worldwide trauma it's clearly still causing in people. like, it's flat out just. not "polite" to talk about how a mass deadly event might, JUST MIGHT, emotionally affect us a little bit. how an airborne invisible-to-the-eye thing can just BE anywhere now. how abandoned we still feel by our respective governments. how we've lost family, friends, either to death or misinformation and cults, which they cling to because they're ALSO afraid but often refuse to admit it because it'd mean admitting covid is real and ongoing. we just. can't talk about it i guess.

I love watching Jane The Virgin but the contrast between the characters’ plot lines in each episode is incredibly funny, like:

Jane’s plot line: Oh my god you guys, Mateo hasn’t said his first words yet and I’m stuck on a plot idea for my thesis, and I can’t choose between two hot guys - my life is so complicated!

Michael/Rafael/Petra’s plot line: Okay, so Luisa has been kidnapped again, she might be dead, Sin Rostro’s on the loose and I think that if we contact the potential kidnapper then we might be able to organise a bargain- also the Marbella’s in financial danger again, we should probably worry about that…

Both storylines contain legitimate struggles and they’re both entertaining but sometimes it feels like a Frankenstein blend of two shows and I love it 😭.

I've always loved how ominously Kyubey is framed in these shots. The Mami scene is from episode 3 and the Sayaka scene is from episode 4, so we don't yet know the full extent of Kyubey's manipulation or even that he's a bad guy.

But there's something so sinister and predatory about the way that Kyubey appears when these girls are at their lowest point, at their most desperate. They'd do anything for a miracle, and Kyubey just so happens to provide those. Unlike the powerful and energetic awakenings portrayed in most magical girl shows, these just feel eerie and sad. You really get the sense that these girls had no other options, or felt like they didn't.

Not to mention these scenes do a great job of foreshadowing Kyubey's true nature.
