RWBY were a collection of character tropes, archetypes, and premises that people were interested in because they had tits.
No one knew what to do with them, and the more RWBY was developed, it turned out that the other characters were more interesting than RWBY were.
Finally, RWBY had a season all to themselves, which was done reasonably competently. Except that the lesson of the season was shit because no one had any idea as to what Ruby was to become.
RWBY's problem is that they no one knew what to do with them.
