Joseph Levi, Yosef Alcana Y Otros Dos Jvenes Se Sientan En Una Cerca Con Un Nio Pequeo En Un Parque.

It's in the JVP Haggadah.

https://www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/JVP-Haggadah-5784_2024.pdf

If you don't want to click the link, they provide "pro-Gaza" alternatives for all of the Seder plate foods.

Olive: Originally to show solidarity with Palestinians, it is now characterized as symbolic of the olive groves allegedly uprooted by Israel.

Orange: Originally was supposed to symbolize a desire for inclusion of queer Jews and those who are marginalized from the community. The practice predates JVP's usage.

Acorn: This Reform site explains that the acorn symbolizes "indigenous land acknowledgement". It also appears to predate JVP's usage.

Garlic: For "reconnecting with and revealing ancestral healing and protection practices and divesting from harmful practices and institutions that offer an illusion of safety at the expense of others. Garlic helps us remember that policing, borders, militarism - violent practices based in settler colonialism and xenophobia - don’t make anyone safe. Garlic, whose teaching moves on scent and taste, reminds us of times, past and future, in which people build a sense of protection and rootedness through connection to plants, stones, celestial bodies, soil, water, ancestral stories, with the Divine and with each other." [source]

Spoon: For spoon theory, represents the disabled [source]

The strawberries are the hardest to find an explanation for; the haggadah above just says "for Gaza" and nothing else.

Searching online indicates that strawberries are apparently "red gold" to Gazans and have always been a symbol of abundance there. Most of the info appears to be behind paywalls. This older article from the American Friends Service Committee indicates that pro-Gazan activists once used Gazan strawberries as a way of "raising awareness of the blockade".

The slogan "think of Gaza when you eat a strawberry" was used, and I assume that's what is referenced by JVP.

Anywhat, it's interesting when it's all broken down this way. Strawberries and olives are utilized as propaganda tools, which makes sense when you read the haggadah and realize it's all been elaborately rewritten to obsessively fetishize The Idea Of Palestine. Oranges and acorns were appropriated from modern Jewish practice. The spoon is a cringe and embarrassing appropriation of disability advocacy. And the garlic is, if you click through to the person who created that practice, witchcraft with some Jewishness thrown in for flavor.

This Seder plate is a dog's breakfast.

i can’t take the people (jewish and not jewish alike) who claim that it’s mean and gatekeeping judaism when making fun of the “jewish” protesters seriously. A non exhaustive list:

held a seder on the wrong day…during the day (in front of the chabad no less which doesn’t seem subtle now does it?)

incorrect hebrew written on the “seder plate” for some words…and all of the words backwards

added extraneous elements to the “seder plate” like strawberries and garlic “for the cause”

had challah during the seder

jvp apparently hosted it and those are the same people who not only think a teacup of water/a pool constitute acceptable mikvehs, but also have a large non jewish membership…including admins who’ve been caught jewfaking

used trader joe’s matzah…which is made in israel

if you can’t invoke judaism correctly for a cause then why do you wonder when the rest of the community doesn’t take you seriously…

You know what? Fuck it.

The amount of notes that this post gets by the end of April is the amount of words I'll write for one of my books.
