Sometimes I sacrifice things for those I love. Sometimes I’m tired and about to sleep but I put that on hold when someone needs me. Sometimes I have other things to get done but I take a minute to help a friend because I can. And that’s okay. There’s a lot of nuance to different situations but I often hear this in such black and white terms and it often implies that you should never, ever ever be a burden on someone in any way.

And that’s just not true. You shouldn’t do things for others at the expense of your own well-being, but it is absolutely normal for people to go through hard times and be a “burden” at times. I don’t mean you should treat your friends like a therapist but you’re allowed to have feelings and want some support sometimes. It's okay to ask for favors or even be an inconvenience at times.

I feel like this mainly becomes an issue when it’s always one-sided or someone disregards boundaries. But here’s a reminder that relationships aren’t black and white. And it's okay to need help sometimes.
