Either way- Happy new years everyone!

BasilKel Swap Prologue Part 6

Look at us… All together…

It’s like our memories all in one place…

‘A broken piece of glass, the only light against the background.’

It's sad, isn’t it?…

It’s okay to cry, you know…

‘Someone’s face. They’re smiling as tears trail down their cheeks.’

I made that promise… I won’t leave. I promised…

[Don’t look at me. Please.]

A boy is asleep in his room. Slowly blinking himself awake to pitch darkness. He shifts around, blearily looking for whatever woke him up. His stomach growls, and he grimaces. Ow.

Slowly, the dark haired boy sat up, eyes flicking around the room. There was a sudden drip, and he glanced over, then up.

‘Oh.’

Something clinging from the ceiling stared at him with one eye, dark body rippling with colors. He tensed, before a voice spoke to him.

‘Well, who is he? Does he have a name?’

The sleepy boy cautiously pointed at himself, and the thing just kept staring.

His name is… ‘Sunny’, isn’t it? He looked away to think, but when he looked back, the shadowy blob was gone.

Now, Sunny was alone. Again. He laid down and rolled over, preparing to go back to sleep, but his stomach groaned in protest.

‘Right. Food time, you guess.’

He ran a hand through his greasy hair, practically hearing someone else’s voice tut at him. ‘Ack, you need a bath,’ it would tease him, tapping his head, ‘How are you so gross without doing anything? C’mon, I’ll get one started for you.’

Sunny shook the thought away and started towards the hallway. A red light caught his eye- Blinking, bright in the darkness. He paused, then walked towards it and fumbled to grab it off his desk.

Picking it up, a voice spoke up again- ‘Oh, it's a phone.’

“Hiya Sunny! It’s your Dad!” Huh. Dad’s not home? And he’s calling?

“Have you finished your chores yet? We can't drop the pace for too long. We’ve gotta keep on schedule to move out!” Moving… Wow. That’s scary. Really scary, for some reason. But if there are things like the one he saw earlier in the house, it’s no wonder.

“The movers are going to be there soon! So don’t forget don’t forget don’t forget doN’T FORGET DON’T FORGET-”

The phone cut off on its own. No dial tone came from the other end.

Sunny put the phone down and stumbled away from the land line. Immediately, the light lit up again, this time blinking slower.

‘It’s watching you.’

Sunny’s own eyes went wide in realization, and he immediately ducked into the hallway.

He leaned against the door to breathe, wincing as his stomach protested again. ‘You are hungry.’

Gee. Thanks.

He stepped towards the stairs, then froze in terror at the endless void at the bottom.

Huh. Well, that’s great.

Sunny stepped back, and turned to the wall, fumbling around the hallway for a light switch, trying the first one he found. Nothing. There was the expected distinct click, but no actual light.

‘Click. Click. Click click click.’ He frowned.

‘Looks like the lights aren’t working.’

Which meant…

Sunny turned back to the stairs. He gripped the railing with a white knuckled grip.

‘Do you want to go down the steps?’

No, he didn’t but his stomach wouldn’t. shut. up. so he really didn’t have a choice.

‘You don’t want to look down.’

Closing his eyes and gathering his courage, Sunny stepped down the first step. Then, the next.

The voice, reassuring in familiar way, whispered with each step.

His legs shook. ‘You can do it…’

His head spun. ‘Sunny…’

His foot slipped.

Sunny clung to the railing, just barely not losing his balance. Heart pounding in his chest he backed up, gripping the railing even tighter with both hands as he did.

‘You feel dizzy… Maybe you can sleep it off…’

He didn’t really want to tempt the things that had been in the bedroom before, but… the bed was comfortable. He huffed lightly through his nose as he walked to his door.

The door creaked as Sunny opened it, checking for red eyed monsters and dripping shadow slimes. ‘...’ Nothing. Good.

As he walked to bed, he tried the light switch near the door- ‘click. Nothing.’- and the lamp near his bed.- ‘C-click. Nothing.’

‘Is there a power outage or something?’ Sunny wondered, but shoved the thought away in favor of curling into his bed and waiting for sleep to claim him.

‘You are hungry.’

Sunny staggered out of bed for the second time in one night. Even so much as glancing back at the bed made his stomach hurt worse. Ugh.

Would getting water help any? He felt like he’d heard of that somewhere before. Maybe he should get some from the bathroom.

A knife lay in between him and the bedroom door. He stared at it.

‘A shiny knife. You can see someone’s reflection in it.’

Sunny stepped out of his room, and nearly startled at the hallway’s new appearance.

When had it gotten light enough to see? It had been dark in his room, right? … Right?

The hall was a deep blue, but the floor and railings- everything seemed to stand out. Almost glowing, but it was still way too dark to be an actual glow. No, it was more like they had been covered in glow-in-the-dark paint, but the brightness of the glow had been turned way down…

Red light seeped in from the window, from under the doors, from beyond the railing. When he tried to get closer, it stained the hand he waved in front of it. His socks too, and pieces of his ankles. Whatever the light touched, all painted with an eerie red glow. Staring at the window, he was almost curious as to what exactly could cause it to appear. He wanted to look, to peek through the window and see, but the window seemed giant, too big for the wall, and so far out of reach.

Sunny stepped back from the window, turning to the bathroom door with a huff. His toes were dyed the same red as he tried to open the door, only to find it locked. Or maybe blocked off. Either way, he wasn’t getting through it.

He watched the door, and it seemed to shrink and expand all at once. It grew inwards and ballooned bigger than its frame, until it was almost taking up the entirety of his vision.

He blinked, and the door had returned to normal. It began to shift once more.

Sunny stepped backwards.

Things were being weird. Confusing.

He watched the walls close in on him, the wallpaper breathing deeply.

He felt like a little kid again.

Something thumped from the window. A faint scratching noise from the bathroom. like Something was trying to get out. A shadow loomed under the door, pressing up against the crack and smothering the red light.

Sunny backed away until his back touched the railing.

‘Crack-’

His eyes shot up towards the window, the red glow from it drowned out by a suffocating darkness. Glass covered the ground. Something was growing outwards from the darkness. It spread over the walls, latching on like roots It was in the house in the room inside him dragging its claws hands teeth over his lungs tearing him apart no no no-

It stared, a glossy red eye with no whites, blinking slowly without closing. Something dripped off the ceiling.

‘It’s watching you.’

Sunny took a step down the stairs. The wood creaked under his feet.

The bathroom door thumped again.

‘Run.’

What?

‘run.’

He turned and fled.

‘Behind you’

A new voice whispered (not new it was him who is he who is you)

‘don’t slip’

There was a presence at his back. It was there there there

‘Sunny’

Hands stretched towards him from the darkness below.

‘c’mere, c’mere’

He couldn’t-

It was right-

It grew closer-

He couldn’t escape, please, help-!

‘Got you!’

Something loomed in the darkness, leaning forward.

‘Sunny feels AFRAID!’

‘What will Sunny do?’

‘Something Shoves Sunny! Sunny takes 10 damage!’

‘Sunny attacks Something! Sunny’s attack did nothing.’

‘Sunny attack Something! Sunny’s attack did nothing.’

“Sunny…”

‘Sunny’s attack did nothing.’

‘Something taunts Sunny as he falls.’

‘Sunny’s attack did nothing.'

‘Sunny’s attack did nothing.’

“Take a deep breath… Don’t be afraid.”

‘Something taunts Sunny as he falls.’

“It’s not as scary as you think.”

‘You steady yourself… and remember how to Calm Down.’

‘Sunny's attack did nothing.’

“Remember, Sunny… All you need to do is Calm Down…"

He

Calm down?

Who?

But, then…

“Hey, hey… Deep breaths…”

He took a nervous gasp, and let it out in little puffs of air.

“Slower, Sun… you’ve gotta count…”

‘One, two, three, four, Hold, two, three, four…’

‘Sunny calms down.’

‘& &&&& &&&’

Sunny opened his eyes to the first floor. The bottom of the stairs.

‘You made it.’

He was sitting on the floor, head still spinning. What… was that? Sunny refused to turn and look up, as if it would reappear if he double checked. Was it real? Something… did he normally see things like that? He couldn’t…

Sunny took a deep breath and let it out slowly, counting by tapping on his knee. After a moment, he stood up, wincing at how his leg suddenly felt sore. It wasn’t enough to keep him from walking, at least.

‘Your leg hurts. You must have hurt it when you fell.’

Sunny paused, looking around. He could’ve sworn- Did someone just talk to him?

Leaning on against the railing, he glanced to his right, at the first aid kit on the table between the stairs and-

‘There is nothing here’

Sunny shook his head, blinking away the sudden headache. He could’ve sworn-

‘There is nothing here.’

Ow, ow, okay! Fine, nothing there, got it!

He looked away from the “empty” wall to the plant next to it- Completely withered and brown. He tapped the pot with the side of his sore foot, and one of the leaves crumbled to dust.

‘A dying houseplant. No saving this one.’

He took the first aid kit with him. Just in case.

The entire half of the hall was covered in dust on this side, no cardboard boxes to be seen. Had he been avoiding this area? Looking at it made his stomach twist. Sunny looked away to the other side. Hopefully, less headache inducing.

A pair of empty shelves, sloppily repainted white with purple and orange accents. Sunny could see a lily of the valley painted in black, and focused elsewhere. The doorway- his stomach twisted and growled at him again.

‘You are hungry.’

Sunny turned away, and walked into the packed up living room. Immediately, a sticky note on the wall caught his eye.

‘When did this get here?’

“Hey Sunny!” it read. The writing was messy, but confident. “Your dad says, that if you hear someone knocking at the door, don’t let them in. Hear knocking, don’t open. Okay? See you later!”

‘Who left this here?’ Sunny wondered, tilting his head at the note. Studying it didn’t reveal any new answers, and he turned away with a sigh.

There was a light stain on the carpet. It had been darker before-

Before what?

He shook his head, and walked into the kitchen.

The fridge sat in the corner, tall and dustless. There should be something in there, right?

‘You look in the darkened fridge… and find STEAK. Take it?’

Sunny pulled the steak out and opened the tupperware. A sharp, sour waft of air hit him, and he gagged, holding the container away from himself and wrinkling his nose at the sudden smell.

‘UGH! You should heat this up before you eat it.’

The gross smelling steak was set on the counter, and Sunny turned away to pick up a STEAK KNIFE.

‘A shiny knife.’

Sunny looked at it for a moment.

‘It feels good to have on hand.’

...

‘You put the STEAK in the microwave.’

Sunny pressed the button, waiting for the familiar beep, but nothing happened.

‘... There’s no reaction.’

Sunny tilted his head at the microwave. What was this? He thought for a second, before something clicked.

‘No lights, dark fridge- It really must be a power outage. But then why did the phone work…’

A thump sounded from behind him, and he whipped around. Something was glowing in the dining room.

Nervously, and with his appetite as thoroughly spoiled as the steak in the microwave, Sunny crept into the next room, careful to avoid the creaky planks.

Someone- Something? Which is which?- stood facing away from him.

”Zpv ibwfo’u uipvhiu bcpvu ju!... Op, J lopx cvu- Mppl. J dbo hfu uifn up bhsff!” The figure snapped, voice garbled beyond recognition. It stomped a foot, entire body rippling like jello. ”Li riihw lipt!... Rs, rs, li’w kixxmrk fixxiv, fyx li-... Qvw. Wydyom, mj csy asyph nywx-...”

Sunny backed up, trying to look it over. Its body looked like it was covered in liquid, crusted over and cracked along its back. It slumped forward-

Its head fell off and rolled- It melted into a puddle while screaming- It turned to him and called his name-

It dropped its head forward and groaned, sounding pained. ”... L xqghuvwdqg, exw sohdvh, mxvw olvwhq wr ph-... Bhv, khoor, Pu. Vxcxnl. L’p- Bhv, L’p grlqj ilqh, wkdqnv. Orrn, li L fdq jhw pb sduhqwv wr djuhh-... L-...” It stopped, then swallowed. Had it been eating something? “Sjhiu. Gjof. Hppeojhiu.”

Something drew its arm away from its face. It tensed, then screamed into the air.

Sunny jumped, and landed right on a creaky plank. It snapped its head to look at him.

Red gleaming eyes stared at him.

”Wyrrc? Lic, aemx-”

He turned and ran, as fast as he could, towards his bedroom.

The hall seemed to stretch on forever- ‘Why can’t you ever run away in a place that makes sense!?’ Sunny’s thoughts snipped as he tried to run faster.

The thing was chasing him. Hands grabbed at his feet, his shirt, his arms- whatever they could-

One of them gripped his foot, and yanked it down.

The soreness from earlier returned with a vicious bite.

...

He was falling backwards.

The smell of the steak gripped his nose, and combined with his hunger, the ache, and running, and now-

Sunny woke up in the bathroom, puking into the toilet.

‘... You threw up.’

What…

“Hey, hey… Sunny? You here?”

He blinked, gagging again.

That voice… He knew it, didn’t he?

A hand petted his hair back, offering whatever comfort it could. He shuddered and glanced over whatever it was attached to.

It was too dark to be sure, but he was almost sure that was an orange sweatshirt. The actual color of the face was too hard to make out, but when they grinned at him, he was positive he knew who it was.

“Heh, there you are,” Kel’s dopey grin would be recognizable anywhere, and Sunny all but dropped himself onto the other’s side.  “Woah, easy dude! You were just super sick- Best not to push it, you know?”

Kel scooped him up easily, holding him to his side with one arm as he reached for an uncapped bottle of water on the sink counter with the other.

“Here- don’t drink it. Just gargle and spit, remember?”

Sunny gave a thumbs up, and Kel lit up. As he went through the motions, Kel talked, holding him up with a gentle hand.

“You really scared me, Sun! But you were probably even worse off, huh? Walking around here with no power, at night- Yikes! But hey, you actually made it downstairs and halfway back up again, all on your own! I’m proud of you dude!”

Sunny looked in the mirror, catching a glimpse of Something with too many eyes in the doorway- before Kel moved into the way, holding his hand out.

“High-five, Sun!” Sunny looked down at his hand, then gently clapped it. Kel beamed wider. “Yeah! You got it! Come on, let’s get you a little celebration thing! I picked up some sweets, if you want any?”

He tilted his head, and Kel looked away, red in the face.

“Well, they were having a deal on orange taffy, so I got some, and some watermelon and grape candy while I was there!”

Sunny nodded, and he lit up again.

“Alright! How about this- you go chill in your room, and I’ll bring them up! … Huh? What’s wrong?” Kel’s face fell, eyes suddenly serious. Sunny glanced in the direction of his room, lips twitching ever so slightly, and Kel looked towards him, pursing his own. “You saw Something again, huh? Eesh, you think they’d give up at some point!”

He offered Sunny another grin. “Leave it to me, then! We’ll hang out all night, until you feel better, alright?”

Sunny nodded.

‘Kel’s been spending nights here for a while now. He helps you fight off Something.’

‘Also, he brings food and helps with chores. What’s not to love?’

‘You don’t know why he spends so much time with you instead of with his other friends, but you're grateful all the same.’

“Ah, I was talking with your parents earlier,” Kel said out of nowhere, frowning with his eyes even as he smiled. Sunny leaned against him in his own parents’ bed, chewing on a piece of watermelon candy thoughtfully- He hadn’t managed to actually eat any yet, stomach too turbulent to do anything but chew-, and nodded against his arm.

‘Okay. What happened?’

“They pushed back the moving date again. And they didn’t bother with power this time.” Kel grumbled. Sunny offered him a piece of Orange. He took it from him carefully, eyes softening, then bit into it with enough force to make his teeth clack. He kept his smile, even as his face creased. “The least they could do is try to think about you. I swear, it's like they just forget you sometimes!”

Sunny stared at him. He glanced down at Sunny, and his eyes grew sadder.

“No offense to you, Sun,” Kel ruffled his hair. Finally, his smile gave up, twisting into a frown. “Your hair feels gross, again. And with everything shut off… Alright, tomorrow, we’ll get you all cleaned up, okay? Just leave it to me!”

Sunny watched his face return to its confidence, then closed his eyes, leaning his full weight onto Kel’s arm.

“Alright, alright, I’ll drop it for now. Heh. You really do act just like a cat, y’know? Like the other day, I was petting this cute lil tabby, in the park, and…”

Sunny hummed quietly, already dozing off to the sound of Kel’s stories.

“... and then Mikhail comes out of nowhere, and- Oh, are you asleep already?”

Kel blinked down at the shorter boy, watching him breathe for a moment. He leaned heavier onto Kel’s arm- not that he weighed much at all, still- and smushed his cheek against the taller’s shoulder.

“Heh, I guess so!” Kel said cheerfully. “Alright then… here, you should lay down. I’ve got to finish putting everything away!”

Sunny said nothing, as was expected. He’d always been quiet, but still he’d been speaking even less since Then. Not that Kel blamed him! After all, he himself had been getting quieter, too. Even if he could handle conversations, he’d lost his love for talking.

‘Uibu’t opu usvf.’

A soft voice noise sounded from the doorway, and Kel whipped around to face it. A shadow stared at him from the hall, only visible by its sad, glossy eyes.

‘Xlex’w rsx xvyi. Csy’vi pcmrk.’

‘It’s just saying nonsense,’ Kel told himself. He shook his head, puffed up his chest, and walked past it, towards the stairs.

It stared at him from halfway down, leaning up like a kid on their toes.

‘Brx’uh oblqj. Brx uhixvh wr olvwhq wr ph. Wr idfh-’

“Shut up. You’re not real.”

He walked through the shadow.

‘... Silence. Looks like it's gone for now.’

He breathed out in relief. Good. He definitely had too much work to deal with weird, child-like Somethings.

Not refrigerated food, enough to survive off of for the last three days, check!

Cleaning up the steak, microwave, and fridge, check! ’Did he even know it went bad, or was he too far gone for that? At least he didn’t eat it…’

Resealing any boxes that he’d used stuff out of, check!

Answering the knocking,-

Wait. Knocking?

Kel glanced at his phone, grimacing when he saw the time. It was just about 2 in the morning on a Sunday. Who the hell would be knocking now?

He marched over, reaching for the handle. Before he could open the door, however, a voice called out instead.

“Kel? Are you here?”

He froze in place.

“I know you’ve been taking care of Sunny, and I’m really proud of you for that! I brought some stuff from Othermart, to help out! But, uh, my hands are… kind of full. Could you open the door for me?”

Kel’s hand shook.

He couldn’t move.

Was that really- Did they finally come around-?

But the Eyes in the Dark said-

No, no, doesn’t matter.

Kel takes a breath.

Steadies himself.

He grips the doorknob.

Welcome to WHITE SPACE

More Headspace Thoughts- With some Original Content this time!

EMOTIONS are getting switched around! Why? Because I really liked how the original game had the teamwork aspect presented- No one can give themselves their EMOTION at first! Aubrey and Kel work to make eachother ANGRY and HAPPY respectively, and Hero needs Omori to make him SAD.

Basil's skill, Tend (Maybe Bloom would be a better name), works like Og Aubrey’s Pep Talk, b/c Omori has Sad Poem, and I can't see Basil making people angry: To keep that teamwork aspect, he shouldn't have HAPPY as his main EMOTION. So, I shifted the emotions one over- Aubrey HAPPY, Hero ANGRY, Basil SAD. Instead of boosting their best stats, their main EMOTION covers their weaknesses and allows them to use different Skill Builds- Aubrey focuses on high risk high reward/support, Hero goes from healing tank to offensive presence, and Basil goes from squishy support to defensive wall.

Also ties into how 1) they handle Kel disappearing and 2) how they handle the death (Aubrey distracts herself with the Hooligang, Basil almost lives in the bittersweet memories, and Hero... Well, Hero isn't actually angry all the time, so much as he bottles all of his emotions up, then takes it out on whoever tries to make him confront it) (actually, all of them aren't fully exhibiting their EMOTIONS- Basil's cheery and Aubrey has her angst. But ehh. Never said I was /good/ at writing stories /j)

[SPEAKING OF!! I LEFT THE STUMP IN!! LIKE A GODDAMNED IDIOT AAA!!!! I didn't even realize until I posted to Ao3- Hells! Now I have to explain that somehow >=^/ ]

Okay Back to Positivity:

Theres no Ladder to Otherworld! They'll be using a different way to get to the stars- Mount Sheer!

Mount Sheer's basically a super tall mountain with really sheer cliffs- Hence the name. At the top, the peak is completely flat and growing differently colored grasses. In the center, there's a still pool of metalic water that you can walk on top of, and surrounding it is the Celestial Court/Milky Way Megalith- Nine massive, heavy stone pedestals facing the pond.

Each one represents a planet, and the planets will make an appearance- Yes, Pluto is there, and yes, the planets are all buff as fuck (minus earth). If I could draw them, I would- But I'm SHIT at drawing muscles.

Planet Notes:

Mercury is a runner- primary focus on legs, slimmer upper body. Would be the weakest of the planets in a fight. I could see him being a shopkeeper/hint system. (Mercury was named after the God of Translators, Messengers, Theives, and Commerce- Him taking on the role of squishy thief/chill storeclerk makes sense to me)

Venus is a body builder of a woman. Almost like Pluto, but legs too. (Bodybuilders are more based on physical appearance than strength, which I think fits well with the Roman Goddess of beauty and love- Not that she's weak, but her strength is a side effect of her appearance)

Earth would be like a swimmer- Defined arms and abs, but less buff overall. Ofc, that's only if she appears in a humanoid form- I kinda like the image of these super buff men and women and dog, and then just a literall ball. (Earth is 70% water, hence the muscle type. Again, might leave her as a completely silent ball)

Mars, or Rover, is a buff dog (Think Kengal Shepard Dog crossed with Japanese Akita for appearance- A Giant Akita with smokey markings on the muzzle and ears) He'd be a giant dog, bigger than even Hero, with a tail made of fire. Two moons and a variety of meteors/asteroids that follow him around. Has a collar made of space dust and everything. (Named/inspired by the mars rover, as well as Kel's connection to dogs. Hector was one of the Meteorites.)

Jupiter is going to be Huge. I dont mean tall, either- tho he is- I mean fat. He's a rotund, jolly kind of guy, who probably smells like cakes/cookies all the time. His muscle type would be that of a weightlifter- Legs and shoulders, but you can't see it unless he's flexing. (Jupiter's called the Gas Giant, and I liked the idea of a strong guy who was on the heavier side- Combined with that old meme video of the heavy guy (No disrespect- Dude's in better shape than me, lol) who lifted a huge weight while screaming, and I thought 'Well, that works!' Plus its less weird than... /Zeus/ /lh)

Saturn... Honestly, don't have a ton of thoughts yet. Maybe a Fatherly type dude? Like, he's named after Kronos/Cronus, the Olympian's Titan dad. Plus, rings are a marriage thing... Ok. Take that origin, change the behavior- Gonna make him a Malewife type of dude! Like, has a ton of kids, loves them all dearly, and dotes on them whenever he can. Happily married to someone, is seen holding little baby moons, looks like your average stay-at-home dad- Then you fight him and it turns out he's got defense for /DAYS/. (Has a rock core, after all) Doesn't really take the fight seriously, more of a "Aww, you kids are cute! Here, have a snack before you go," which would make Aubrey furious, I bet. Tall, but serious Dad Bod. Good dude! (No I am not projecting my father onto this character What do you mean?)

Uranus would be most like Pluto, as they'd be most muscular in the upper body. The key difference is that Uranus is hockey player and notably ice elemental. Probably more wrinkly and cracked over with ice. Absolutely body checks someone as an attack. Ice based attacks could lead to characters becoming SAD- slowed down and frozen over. Combine that with Uranus making himself angry ('Uranus worked himself up! Uranus became ANGRY!') and you've got a nasty combo! (Plus, HAPPY being strong against him works with the whole 'keep moving around and you'll stay warmer' deal! Love it when things work out like that ^^) Probably the lowest HP/Juice, but not bad Defense or Speed, and great Attack! (Ice hockey b/c I looked up old ice sports, and it was either that or ice skating- Idk what 'bandy' is- and I thought Hockey would fit an Ice Giant better. Probably can still ice skate tho.)

stars above I wrote a lot! uhm! Anyway! Feel free to yell at me about ideas! Asks or comments!

BasilKel swap AU notes

Woo! I've been sick since friday, so I figured I'll post some BK swap notes! These are from text messages with my irl friend- We finally beat the Omori route, and were supposed to do the Sunny route this weekend, so if some things seem off, its cause they don't know The Truth yet. (ALSO: THEY KNOW MY USER NOW!! HII!!!)

Anyway! Notes under Read More!

Idea originally came because of the Blurry Kel drawing/mod on Tumblr. Friend lit said "Man, imagine if Kel is the one who went missing instead of Basil?" and so it began.

A couple of HS Skill ideas for Basil: Plant powers, such as vines to slow enemies down or flowers to affect EMOTIONS. Also, I realized the pun Flash Bulb (As in, the kind used for old photography, and plant bulbs) and that's too good to not mention.

Friend was the one who came up with Kel Recording idea, b/c we were discussing what we wanted "his" house to look like. (In replacement for Basil's Shoe, Kel and Hero get a Blanket Fort! You'll see soon!)

This one's a bit weird, so stick with me: Kel's Pet Rock, formerly Hector, currently Roro, is going to be tied to the fast travel/Pluto "replacement". All we have nailed down for now is that most of the planets are going to appear and speak in one way or another (Roughly around Sweetheart's Castle section), and that the Mars representative is going to a giant space dog named Rover, and he'll act as fast travel. [Look, look- No one on this team should learn Flex /hj]

Hero's gonna end up being a bit short tempered by the end of the Headspace section. At first, he can hold it together, but as they search more and Kel goes unfound, the pressure makes him snappy.

Original text from friend: "Hero replacing Kel in bickering with Aubrey because of how callous she is acting about Kel's disappearance and Hero just not taking this well, snaps at her from time to time [return] Basil is just trying to break it up whenever it happens" (I'm not 100% sure how I feel about The Older Brother (tm) arguing with a kid, but it could be fun- or at least interesting)

Black Space is going to be fun! And by fun I mean angsty (hopefully")

I don't think Kel would go quietly. If he can fight, he will. The Neighbor Area and Spider Area would show that best, featuring Kel actively entering a battle against the friends (and dying after refusing to hurt Hero) and fighting Something in the Walls (Overwhelmed and consumed by Sunny's fear) on his own.

The other three are a bit harder to place/closer to the original:

Melon would need to be changed to match the pillows/cardboard aesthetic, but functionally could be the same.

Raft would be weird, b/c again, Kel would fight! If Omori attacked him, then he'd try to fight back, right? Unless he was killed in one hit, I guess, but still.

Treehouse... I mean, I guess it works! Don't fully get the Subtext of that one, tbh.

Then there's the room of original content!! Woo!

Remember Rover? Giant Space dog? I kinda want him to kill Kel in a Black Space room. Like, Rover has a key in his mouth, and Kel trusts him not to bite, so he reaches in to grab it, and naturally, Rover would bite him in half, then spit out the key.

Maybe a side room, where Omori tries to walk somewhere, but his feet get cut up by glass shards? idk

When I get some more time, I'll talk about some of the Real World ideas we came up with.

Paradox Empoleon! Probably called, like, Iron Monarch, but I can't think of anything super good "

Flying-Steel type, with notable inspiration from those old Fairy Dancer toys, Wind Turbines/Propellers, and a bit from Hoothoot, too! (The eyes, mostly ")

Its "wings" and upper half are one piece- When the propeller blades move, the torso moves with it. Combined with the whole lower half acting as a ball joint, it would be free to rotate and extend as much as needed! The "Head" functions as a nose cone would, as well as an upper limit for the blades' extension range, and rotates relatively little, even at high speeds.

The main use of the Paradox's blades is for travel- The lightweight construction material allows it to fly like a propeller or helicopter when spinning at high speeds! However, it also uses them for fighting (by producing strong winds to knock enemies away, and to physically strike at enemies nearby) and for gathering power (Wind turbine). When it wants to do this without taking flight or moving, it will dig its exceptionally powerful talons into the ground and refuse to let go.

Its mobility and propeller control makes it surprisingly fast, and while made to see constant usage, it's defenses are notably lower than an average Empoleon.
