AMC seems to be the only one who knows what they're doing in this industry. They invested in The Immortal Universe and sustained that. Mayfair Witches didn't do so well, and IWTV wasn't nearly as big during season 1 as it is now.

But they're building the universe. It takes time. And it pays off. IWTV is the only show I've watched in years that didn't make me extremely anxious about a likely cancellation — they teased season 3 as soon as season 2 was done. This is how you keep an audience!

How the fuck is that so hard to get for other platforms? What is Netflix doing? What is actually going on?

WE CAN AND WE WILL SAVE DEAD BOY DETECTIVES! 🫶

I’m gonna talk about Dead Boy Detectives for a second, specifically Charles and Edwin’s deaths.

Edwin died in a basement and Charles in an attic, and Edwin went to Hell and Charles was presumably meant to go to Heaven. Edwin died by fire (demons from Hell) and Charles died by ice (hypothermia). Edwin was targeted for his queerness and Charles for the color of his skin, the country his mother came from. Edwin never seemed to get along with the boys who would kill him but Charles called his murderers friends until they turned on him. Edwin died by supernatural means while Charles died by run of the mill racist teenagers. They died more than 7 decades apart.

When you look at the details there are so many differences but the story is still the exact fucking same. Two boys who died at the hands of a group of their classmates who decided that they did not fit with the rest of them and therefore must pay the price. Two boys who died on the same grounds of the same school, whose deaths were brushed aside and covered up by people who held the same titles. More than 70 years apart and not a single thing has changed, Charles’ death didn’t get any more attention than Edwin’s, because more than 70 years later the same fucking story happened again.

Edwin’s death didn’t change a damn thing, and it could happen again now because Charles’ death didn’t change a damn thing either. And then the ghosts of two 16 year olds decided that if the adults, if the living weren’t going to change anything then they fucking would. If the living would not grant them justice and would not grant them change, then they fucking would.

Because there was a difference, in the end. Edwin was murdered, and so was Charles, but while Edwin died scared and alone Charles didn’t. Edwin died in a cold, dark basement, but Charles died in warm light of a lantern, even if that warmth wasn’t enough to save him. Edwin died to the sounds of his own screams, his own voice pleading for mercy that would not come, but Charles drifted off to sleep to the sound of a kind boy reading him a book.

The living won’t change. The story could and will keep on repeating because the living will not make sure it doesn’t. The living are messy. But the dead, for all the ways they will never change, will never get any older, they can change the story, at least a bit. Charles and Edwin can’t make sure that no other boy dies at that school, but if the story repeats itself yet again they can make sure the victim is at peace. They can solve the murders and find the lost items and release the spirits who are trapped. The living won’t help the dead, but they can help each other.

So they call themselves the Dead Boy Detectives, form an agency and get an office and help who they can, because they didn’t matter to the living, and many of their clients don’t either. But they matter to the dead.

Their clients matter. And Charles and Edwin matter too.

rewatching ep3 of dbd today for Research Purposes (a charles introspection fic I'm v excited abt) and god I love this show so much. jayden's expressions are absolutely incredible, charles' emotions are so clear on his face. that's not an actor playing a character, that is genuinely charles reliving trauma. it's absolutely insane how jayden embodies him so well. I want to give charles a hug.

i've seen some people get surprised at how passive-aggressive and petty Monty got at some points, expecting that he'd always be all cute and sweet, but honestly, did we watch the same crow?? even before becoming human, Monty had a MOUTH on him. in practically every scene, that crow was SHRIEKING

Okay so this is going to be my entire personality for at least a week.

Love the idea of Edwin finally feeling safer after everything that happened in Port Townsend, knowing not only that Hell can't reach him anymore, but also that even if it did, Charles would come for him again and help him get out (which heals some of his abandonment issues)

It manifests when a baby doll jumpscares Edwin, and he flinches and automatically whispers a little alarmed "Charles!" before he even knows what he's saying

Edwin's embarrassed about it right after and just turns the head of the doll away himself, but Charles heard it, and he's so bloody pleased about it

Charles loves knowing that Edwin trusts him, feels safe with him, and believes that Charles would always come to his rescue no matter what, that Edwin knows it instinctively

I hate you Netflix. I could be having FUN but instead I'm SAD because you cancelled my favorite show. And WORSE, now I spend time on Twitter to try to save said show.

What if I was a repressed gay ghost from 1916 and I confessed my love for you on the Stairway To Hell™️ and you made an Orpheus and Eurydice reference and you admitted you're not in love with me back but a secret third thing (so devoted the lines blur) and told me we had an eternity to figure out what that means for us and that we're still best mates just like we've been for the last 30+ years. What if I was Edwin Payne and you were Charles Rowland. What then.

I'm really optimistic about our chances of saving Dead Boy Detectives and I just want to put that positivity out into the tag today.

Keep fighting. The only people who benefit from us giving up are the asshole execs at Netflix who want to crush successful queer stories without any repercussions. Do not give them that satisfaction.
