‘Race and racism is a reality that so many of us grow up learning to just deal with. But if we ever hope to move past it, it can’t just be on people of color to deal with it. It’s up to all of us – Black, white, everyone – no matter how well-meaning we think we might be, to do the honest, uncomfortable work of rooting it out. It starts with self-examination and listening to those whose lives are different from our own. It ends with justice, compassion, and empathy that manifests in our lives and on our streets.’ — Michelle Obama
you know, I totally do not like those “lists of the books which you must read during your life”. I’m talking only about these lists, not the lists of books which you make and want to share with all of the world as you get so much joy while reading them and want somebody else to feel it too! I’m talking about “the lists of must read books”. I always feel quite bad when the book from this list is not interesting for me, like, I always ask myself - maybe I just have a terrible taste in books because in my 20 years I still enjoy rereading John Green’s novels or the books of Sarah Addison Allen, but at the same time I love Sisters Bronte, Fitzgerald and Nabokov
and what I want to say that it’s ok not to like classical books, it’s ok to be fond of books for teens, it’s ok to have “Jane Eyre” and “Twilight” standing next to each other in your library, it’s ok to read only one genre of the literature, it’s ok to like only non-fictions books, because the main task of each book is to bring pleasure, transfer the reader to a completely different world, distract from everyday life and routine
what is not ok is to to humiliate someone for choosing that particular book (which happens quite often), to think that you read much better literature and have better taste, make some stupid jokes, and be a brat
and to think that you need to finally start reading “something worthwhile” (don’t you dare!)
read whatever you want, enjoy what you like, make your own lists, express your opinion about them and your experienced emotions and share them with us only because you love these particular books with all of your heart!
That’s all

Okay, hot take? Bisexual and pansexual are functionally synonyms, and the decision to ID as one or the other comes down to personal preference and interpretation, and any attempt to further separate the two is driving a wedge between two communities that should have nothing but love and solidarity for one another.
We have more in common than not, and the words for our respective identities should not be pitted against each other.
alright look since people don’t seem to understand why maladaptive daydreaming is a big deal here’s a grand list of some of the reasons why.
first off: yes, you little babies, maladaptive daydreaming is often characterized by:
zoning out
“snapping back” to reality
which is often followed by mild alarm and confusion like “what where am i what am i doing whats going on”
seeking emotional satisfaction in daydreams that you didn’t get from real life
it’s often developed due to childhood isolation, not having a lot of friends, having too much time to yourself as a youngling
yep also those bless-ed long car rides
being deeply comforted by music and/or alone time because it means yay daydreaming time
intricate stories that exist inside vivid imaginary worlds (called paracosms) with their own highly developed “characters” (which are called paras, and i hope you’re taking notes)
constantly looking for an “escape” so you can daydream
repetitive motions to stimulate daydreams such as swinging on a swingset, bouncing up and down, pacing, spinning, etc.
an idealized version of yourself through whose eyes you live out these daydream stories (called parames, like para-me…)
BUT!!!! but but but but but but (and this is the stuff y'all seem to constantly be forgetting/overlooking/not taking seriously) maladaptive daydreaming is also characterized by:
deep and dependent emotional attachments to paras such as intimate friends, lovers, family, and pets that don’t exist
deep guilt due to favoring paras over “real life” (called thisverse) people
a phobia that you will never be able to care about people in thisverse and will therefore be a terrible lover/spouse/parent, etc.
trancelike states where you lose time anywhere between a few minutes to several hours straight without even realizing it until you’ve returned to reality
maladaptive daydreaming steals so. much. time.
withdrawal-like effects if you don’t daydream for a long time (even a day), such as shaking, nausea, agitation, aggression, breakdowns, etc.
you don’t control your daydreams, they do whatever they want to, they are invasive, intrusive, and often unwanted
intense absorption, so when the daydream is exciting you will get an adrenaline rush and your blood gets hot and starts to rush and you sweat and breathe weird and see red and your heart rate goes up. when the daydream is depressing you will cry with real tears and your limbs actually feel heavy
it steals an incredible amount of energy
daydreams are often violent, sexual, and/or disturbing
difficulty focusing, high anxiety
paranoia caused by a feeling that you’re under observation
compulsive behavior (like, “i have to pace right now” even when your feet feel like they’re broken… I’ve often been afraid to look down because i thought i might see blood but i couldn’t stop walking even when it hurt so much that i started crying)
sleeplessness, insomnia, nightmares
suicidal thoughts and tendencies (“maybe if i die, i’ll be with my paras”, “i can’t take it anymore”)
feeling uncomfortable in your body/with your identity (i often have trouble recalling my real name because i’m so used to be my parame’s name, i avoid mirrors because i expect to see my parame’s face and it always catches me off guard)
weight loss or weight gain
appetite loss or appetite gain
dissociation and “out of body” experiences
avoidance and the death of your social life
not being able to feel anything either neg or pos about “real life” things because you’re only concerned with your paracosms
speaking the dialogue out loud or whispering, acting out daydreams
i have seriously been asked if i’m possessed when i got caught daydreaming
it is so painful and so detrimental and it makes our lives difficult, it is not “cute”, it is not “lol relatable”, it is not “creative”, and it is not “fake”

Sunny bouquet

#if we don’t get a Doctor Who episode with these two I will riot
you ever look forward to commuting just bc you’re so excited to experience the fleeting joy of listening to you favourite music while wistfully gazing out of the window and daydreaming about alternative lives you could have lived

✨The language learning tip you have not heard (works for all written languages)
The tip: Copy down (entire) passages of text
Why it works: You get WRITING SKILLS since you are writing down every word. You become familiar with the spelling, grammar, different writing styles, script (if you are unfamiliar with it), etc. You get READING SKILLS because obviously you are reading, exposed to the written text in context. You can even incorporate SPEAKING and LISTENING SKILLS by listen to the audio format (you can try google translate audio if you find nothing else) and/or read it aloud to yourself. Since you are limited by the speed of your writing, you will pay more attention to pronunciation. *Also, everyone knows you retain more information when you write by hand.*
How to:
1. Select a text. Make sure it is appropriate to your level and desired new vocabulary set. If I want to know more political vocabulary, I will read a news article. But for colloquial language/slang, I will read a YA novel.
(Btw you can find tons of texts for novels online if you search: “title name” + pdf)
2. Get a paper and writing utensil (you can dedicate a notebook to this if you want).
3. Don’t stop until the text is done or your hand hurts
4. Limit looking up vocabulary. If the text is more challenging for you, allow yourself to look up about one word per paragraph. If it is at your level, then wait to the end of the session to open the dictionary. Chances are, you’ll figure out the word’s meaning a few lines later.
4. Go back to the text later to review and/or make vocabulary lists from what you learned (flashcards like anki or memrise would be great especially if you put the sentence on one side with the word indicated and a representative picture on the other side
Ex. Side one: I planted a *rose* today
Side two: picture of a rose in a pot)
**btw I don’t know if this is an “undiscovered” method. I used this to learn spelling and writing structures in my native language when I was little. I would even put the writing right in my picture books**

Motivation can be experienced differently for each of us. While some people just get this kind of impulsive motivation, others develop their motivation through actions.
@masterposts @studymasterposts
I would like to show you why it is wrong to wait for your motivation and why you should just do something instead - it doesn’t matter how big your action is.
How to gain motivation
OK, so just like I told you above there exists a concept of just doing some random shit. That means that you start small even though you know that you should do more.
You need to write an essay in two days but you’re spending all the time watching a cat jumping from a window? (if you followed the link - yeah, it’s funny but please continue reading my bullshit lol)
The solution to your stressful task is to start doing something even if it doesn’t seem big or challenging. (In our example with the essay this would mean, starting the writing program/ writing “Outline for my essay” on a paper/ starting a draft as small as possible etc.)
You need to clean your room? Search the smallest task and do this one: put your old pizza that’s laying on the floor in the trash can and your underwear where it belongs - you don’t want your dog to eat it, right?
You want to get fit and start working out? Maybe you had an impulse of motivation one week ago, but now you’re laying on the couch like the cutest panda ever, eating sweets and asking yourself where your motivation went.
You already have an idea what you need to do now, right? Just do one push-up/ lunge/ crunch whatever.
It doesn’t matter how small your action is, but if you experience the feeling of this small success you’ll keep going.
How to stay motivated (Part 1)
Now that you’re finally motivated (doesn’t matter how), you really need to stick on that workflow or whatever you’re trying to achieve. One of the simplest things to maintain your motivation is to think of why you started. Here are some examples:
I know that I’m able to get this shit done.
I want to prove that I can do more than I thought.
I want to show everybody that I’m taking my responsibilities seriously.
I need to pass that exam.
Failing is worse than studying.
etc. (the reason needs to come from your heart - if it isn’t true, it won’t work)
Another way (which is pretty simple and works pretty good for most of the people) is the chain system:
Draw 31 boxes (for one month) and tick one each day after completing your task. This method is pretty common because it is pretty simple and works for no matter how much time you want to do your habit. (The lovely @emmastudies has created a lot of wonderful printables, maybe you find more details there for study tracking.) After keeping up with the growing chain, you’ll be thinking twice before interrupting the chain and stopping your chain.
Part 2 will be posted on Friday, 06.01.

Guys this really works. I downloaded it today. But even if you watch it in Canada, please make sure you also enjoy it again on Netflix! Can’t wait until Sunday guys ❤️

everyday essentials for college
phone, keys, wallet, student id - the absolute essentials. keep them all in one place. also get a smallish wallet that you can put in your pocket. if you don’t carry cash and only have a couple cards, just get a card case.
a solid phone case and a card case that sticks to the back of it - this phone case is a kind that i highly recommend. it’s durable, tough, and you can stick a card case on it. as for card cases, university stores usually sell them, or you could get them on amazon, or even better, you could get them for free at orientation events.
a laptop and charger - you might not need a laptop for every single class, but everything’s online nowadays it’s a lot more convenient to have your own laptop to study and get work done rather than going back and forth from your dorm/apartment to the computer lab.
enough stationery - to be completely honest, not everyone is going to need stationery, especially if all your classes are for subjects in which it would be more efficient to have everything digital (e.g. most reading-based/humanities classes). but if you’re taking like math-based classes, you’d at least need 1 writing instrument, some paper/a notebook, and a calculator. everything else is (probably) luxury.
a planner (digital or paper) - you gotta keep track of your time one way or another. you don’t necessarily need to plan every day by the hour, but you should know the things you have to complete each day/week/month. i had a very simple bullet journal, which i’ve migrated to notionfor the upcoming year. google calendar’s also been pretty helpful during my freshman year, especially since you can sync your club calendars with your personal calendar.
power bank and phone charger - there are a lot of sockets on campus, but you’re going to be moving around a lot and you don’t wanna damage your phone battery by charging only 10% each time. i have one like this.
a good water bottle - at least something with the quality of a hydroflask/thermos. you’d be surprised at how much money you save just by having a water bottle instead of buying drinks from the vending machine each time you’re thirsty. there are usually water dispensers everywhere on campus, so you don’t necessarily need a huge ass 2L bottle, just something that’s portable, durable, and insulated.
a strong, windproof umbrella - i recommend this one from amazon; it’s saved my life so many times especially during the winter and spring when it precipitates almost every other day. any windproof golf umbrella would be great, i.e. with a double canopy and wide enough to make sure you don’t get wet or snowed/rained on.
lotion and lip balm - the vaseline petroleum jelly is unbeatable when it comes to keeping your skin and lips hydrated, especially in the dry winters. it’s good to apply it frequently so your skin doesn’t crack and you start bleeding.
medication - i carry a small pouch with medication for allergies, headaches, mild colds, and severe colds - these are the things i deal with most often. yours might be a little different, e.g. you might need one for stomach aches, fevers, etc. you never know when you might need them, but also be careful not to take them too often. i also carry halls cough drops or fisherman’s friend lozenges to help me breathe more easily or to soothe my throat. also a winter essential.
