Jyushimatsu Would Never Hold What Was Coming Against Him, But It Wasnt Because Of Logical Understanding

“Jyushimatsu would never hold what was coming against him, but it wasn’t because of logical understanding of the situation. It was something bigger, unconditional, and that scared Ichimatsu a bit. He could hurt him really badly and Jyushimatsu would never say anything, not even recognising it as his fault.”

— Ch 4 of “All in the Family” by evilrabbit on AO3

My all time favorite Osomatsu-san fic. I could write an essay on why, but I sorta already did.

This was supposed to be 1/3 of the pieces dedicated to it, but the coloring was kinda really hard this time around, so I did what I could. I like it, but I wanna be prouder… Here’s to making sure the other pieces turn out cooler!

Nevertheless! This was probably my favorite scene in the whole fic. Just the whiplash of realizing that how much Ichimatsu and Jyushimatsu care for each other, was what was making the whole “rip gotta torture my brothers” ordeal excruciating, was great. They love their other brothers, but they’re especially close to each other. It makes Ichimatsu hesitate and spiral further into self-hate cause he isn’t as uncaring as he wants to come off as and hurting Jyushimatsu is so much like hurting the other half of himself. It makes Jyushimatsu give up sooner than he ever would because he can’t bear through the torture if it’s Ichimatsu hurting him.

Personally, a great AU, to me, is one that utilizes its unique world to explore the og characters and their relationships. The new setting being used to bring out new facets of the characters or put old ones in a different light.

I love how this AU, in particular, re-contextualizes Ichimatsu’s self-hate and tendency to want to punish himself for being “trash” as well as Jyushimatsu’s devotion. Who knew torture would be such an interesting way to do it?

Yeah, I like the dark, dark stuff. Might as well set the tone for what I consume and what I plan to write.

Have a nice day! More art coming your way! (Hopefully, cool and lineless!) (Woah, I sound like a magical girl.)

Hii, this is your first ask?

Well I'm just here to tell you... that you've been asked :)

I think this is technically the 2nd because you responded to my reblog of your Osomatsu analysis through one. Maybe???

BUT, I THINK THAT’S HOW WE MET!!!

Our origin story lore, if you will-

Haha!!!!!

Nevertheless-

Why HELLO THERE! How ya doing?

Real. Deserved. Perfect.

They’re so cute and great and wonderful, they give me cavities.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this-

My headcanon for Homura is that she has a lot of body insecurity due to her past, and also has a lot of difficulty receiving compliments and understanding when someone really likes her for her personality and not just her body

I think Jyushi would help her a lot with these issues, he would always reassure her that she is amazing and that her beauty is much more than just her exterior (so I'm going to make a petition for the two to get back together/j)

I’m in the right timeline, this is everything.

And, must I say, my good lad, sir, comrade, bro, I love how bright the colors are and how sweet his expression is. He’s a happy GUY.

Green man really does deserve the win — for how his brothers drive up his blood pressure like a metronome. Save this man.

And, Osomatsu will forever be number 1 in our hearts…

Happy Choro day!! (late)

Happy Choro Day!! (late)

Anyway- congratulations on winning the polls Choro-chan! I hope that next year you (and your fans) will let another character have a chance to win the best character ^^

No hate now- congratulations Choro for your victory and I admire the determination and persistence of the chorofans, you manage to make him beat ALL THE OTHERS

Anyway- happy Choro day! 03/03

This is SO SO canon.

Totty 1000% cyberbullies his brothers. (But, I also like to think if anyone else cyberbullied them, he’d go off on them too).

And, Osomatsu, PLEASE. His organs suck so much ass. Someone get this man some HEALTH. ONE (singular) vegetable, I’m begging you.

Thank you, for making this! You’re very funny!

Banging job, chief.

I never put together that Osomatsu’s big announcement was to leave home!

I’m LITERALLY IN AWE!

I need to go watch out for all the clues when I eventually get to rewatching the season 2 finale.

Osomatsu had even more character growth than I initially anticipated!!!

Thank you, for the time and effort you put into this analysis!

Learning from the perspectives of others, whether affirming or opposing, is the one of the best things I could hope for!!! It always opens my eyes to something greater than what I could’ve conjured on my own!

I should go find your other analysis now! Thank you, again!!!!

:]]]

I could write essays on Osomatsu’s internal battle with his identity and place in the world and how he’s slowly accepting change into his life but it’s late so I will only talk specifically about season 2’s ending.

Because nothing gets me more then the fact that Osomatsu is seen actually questioning his place in the world, and since he’s always leaned on his family to define him when he’s on his own he has no idea who he is. We see this inner struggle accumulate in a strong dissociation episode and a talk with Totoko where he honest reveals that he has no idea who he is.

And we know from the magazine left on the counter that Osomatsu was at least looking into his own place to live. I don’t think it’s a coincidence either that the very next day after his talk he calls a brother meeting to discuss his possible independence. What that tells us is that Osomatsu is actually acknowledging a problem, his problem, and making strides to correct it. He doesn’t know who he is without his family so what does he do? Take time away, figure himself out.

Then they die and that puts a wrench in the whole plan, but the thing that Interests me is the fact that Osomatsu admits that he remembers what his big announcement is but straight up doesn’t bring it up again because he says it’s ‘not important’. We know from season 3 that Osomatsu never moves out, nor does it look like he plans on it.

I think the whole dying and coming back to life thing kind of shot his confidence in his decision, and especially with his brothers dying and his parents grieving. I think he made the excuse of needing to be home before making any of those kinds of decisions. Eventually he made enough excuses where he didn’t feel the need to leave anymore.

After all, his brothers are now jobless and back at home where they started, their parents wanted them to be together, and Osomatsu wasn’t expected to do a damn thing.

And if you look at the story, and I mean like tilt it on it’s side and look up into it, you’ll notice that none of the brothers really know how they became neets. They have different stories and theories, but none of them really know the specific point that made them this way. I think what Osomatsu did, make excuses to stay home until he got too comfortable, was exactly what happened.

It’s just interesting to see how in the first season Osomatsu is digging his heels in and refusing change, and though we see minor changes to his character in season 2, while he’s reluctant to change, we see how he ultimately can change on the surface level. Getting a job, and keeping a job for one thing. When it comes to bigger changes like moving out, he’s willing even if he’s reluctant.

I definitely like seeing these kinds of developments for these characters, the ones that are so far on the end of one spectrum dipping their toes on the other side and wondering what it’s like.

Anyway that’s it for my midnight rambles, take this screenshot that always makes me laugh as a treat for making it this far

So, She Makes Him Go. Because She Loves Him Too Much To Keep Him With Her If It Means Hell End Up Unhappy.
So, She Makes Him Go. Because She Loves Him Too Much To Keep Him With Her If It Means Hell End Up Unhappy.

So, she makes him go. Because she loves him too much to keep him with her if it means he’ll end up unhappy.

What. A. WOMEN.

So, She Makes Him Go. Because She Loves Him Too Much To Keep Him With Her If It Means Hell End Up Unhappy.

And Choromatsu is grateful for the push. Because he realized it’s what he truly wanted as well.

It makes absolute sense, that the next episode, S1 Ep24, Choromatsu is able to get a job and move out. Heh, I used to think it was out of nowhere…

This was his final roadblock on that regard. He acknowledged who he actually was and stopped feeding into his delusions of superiority in light of being more realistic, admitting to being no different from his brothers in a bathhouse scene (I’ll cite it later, not rn). He acknowledged his Choromatsu rising nature and tried to seek help to overcome his biggest flaw. And, finally, now, he found a reason to believe in himself and try to achieve something despite those flaws.

His fiancé believes in him, why shouldn’t he?

Or perhaps he realized he needs to take that leap of faith, away from the comfortable, and risk failure to be happy with who he sees in the mirror at the end of each and every dishearteningly unproductive day.

I love Osomatsu-san. For every smile it draws from my gloomy self, it’s a comedy, but also for being such a sobering commentary on adulthood. I think we can all see a bit of ourselves in them.

Thank you, for your time, and, thank you, for listening to a sad little tofu block rant.

S1 Ep23 Choromatsu character analysis. Part 2/2.

That’s IT. I can’t quite contain it anymore. I need to share this analysis, right now. Art or no art.

Let’s chat about, what I persist, to be one of the most important character building episodes of all of Osomatsu-san: the second half of S1 ep23, “Dayon Tribe.”

Bit of a shocker, ey? I think it’s kinda funny. It’s not the infamous S1 ep24, the pear incident, or the ESP kitty bit, but it means so much… In regards to Choromatsu. So, let’s go!

Seasons 1-2 of Osomatsu-san, English subbed, are available on YouTube, if you weren’t aware. So, if you’re really interested, the important bits are from 18:56 to 21:48. You’ll probably see me talking too much in the comments.

The Dayon Tribe plot goes like so: The eldest trio gets sucked into Dayon’s mouth which, while initially scary, turns out to house a bustling village utopia in which everything is given to you and you can be a NEET forever, free of judgement and societal pressure. Naturally, the boys want to stay forever. Choromatsu in particular getting married to a Dayon village girl. When the younger trio come looking for their other brothers, they try to convince them to come back. Choromatsu’s especially reluctant, having a breakdown.

This episode means a lot for Choromatsu as a character in particular because as he argues why he HAS to stay, he’s admitting to his flaws and how stressed, overwhelmed, and trapped he feels — by his insecurities and perceived shortcomings.

He was trying to get better just a skit earlier in the Kerosene half of the ep, and can be seen reading a self-help book to overcome his self-absorption, self-consciousness, self-awareness (whatever, translations vary) at 2:03! But he doesn’t think he’ll ever get better.

He doesn’t think he’s good enough to become the productive member of society he desperately, genuinely wants to be, so that’s why he wants to stay so bad — settling for what’s available and comfortable.

But, comfort isn’t synonymous to happiness.

Something his fiancé, who truly loves him btw (and highkey deserves better), realized and, thus, forced him to make the right choice. To take risks for a true chance at being happy. Even if it means risking a future where he fails. Even if it means leaving her, the comfortable, behind.

Thats IT. I Cant Quite Contain It Anymore. I Need To Share This Analysis, Right Now. Art Or No Art.
Thats IT. I Cant Quite Contain It Anymore. I Need To Share This Analysis, Right Now. Art Or No Art.
Thats IT. I Cant Quite Contain It Anymore. I Need To Share This Analysis, Right Now. Art Or No Art.

Staying seems so perfect-

Thats IT. I Cant Quite Contain It Anymore. I Need To Share This Analysis, Right Now. Art Or No Art.
Thats IT. I Cant Quite Contain It Anymore. I Need To Share This Analysis, Right Now. Art Or No Art.

-but Choromatsu DOES want to be more than a NEET and she realizes it’s what’ll make him truly happy.

Thats IT. I Cant Quite Contain It Anymore. I Need To Share This Analysis, Right Now. Art Or No Art.
Thats IT. I Cant Quite Contain It Anymore. I Need To Share This Analysis, Right Now. Art Or No Art.

That he’s staying because he trapped himself mentally — as a NEET, as a failure, as someone who’s so far from being good enough it’s impossible to imagine anything better.

It’s the swallowing of the cigarette for me. The perfect balance of impulsive dumbass and sweet. He’d be great around kids.

All in all, SUPER cute art!

Osototo is a nice ship. I always imagine them being abhorrent people together lol. If any of the sextuplets were to be with Totoko, it’d no doubt be Osomatsu.

Him being the only sextuplet able to really stand up to her — in the Kinko ep — solidifies that.

Agh, I wish I could pull it together to make comics! I admire you for that! Especially, one this funny-

Yesssss! YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

I LOVE that headcannon! You have great taste! A point I intend to make when I get to all my analysis is how literally all of Osomatsu’s hobbies are more coping mechanisms than passions.

I just want our boy to have something that isn’t self-destructive-

And HOHOHO! YOU’RE AN ARTIST TOO! ART BUDDY TIME!

Your artstyle is actually so cute. And so is the pose! LOOK AT OUR BOY GO!!!!!!

(I’m sorry, I didn’t realize sooner. Your bio literally says you’re an artist.)

Ah how I missed posting art here!

Here's one I'm proud of:

@endless-brainrot

I’m a tumblr noob so idk if this is how I interact with others but-

THANK YOU! FOR NOTICING THE FANG!

ALLOW ME to explain my big brain (self-diagnosed) character design reasoning unprecedented and with no warning at all-

I draw Ichimatsu and Todomatsu with fangs too! To reflect how Oso, Ichi, and Totty are the “evil” esque brothers and cause I said so.

I just show the fangs when they open their mouths as opposed to Oso cause I like the idea of Totty having a smile with no apparent fangs while he’s being fake and having them showing when he’s being his little genuine sly self — Ichi, he just looks better with them when his mouth is open.

@endless-brainrot

As you can see, made the number of fangs differ too. The more “evil”, the more fangs — though a good argument can be made Totty is most morally corrupt…

I think many people struggle to understand Todomatsu — if the fanfics are to go by. Either making him too cutesy or simply not writing him at all.

I’d be lying if I said I had it all figured out but what’s certain is I have a soft spot his more maniacal side (not that he’s pure evil — far from it).

PS: Did you know that Totty actually has the same dead eyes as Ichi and Jyushi? It’s in the Oso-san manga! Makes me wonder if he forces his eyes to sparkle somehow to be cuter…

PPS: I should practice more self-restraint, I drew that like immediately and I have responsibilities to attend to-

I Headcannon That Todomatsu Picked Their Outfits.

I headcannon that Todomatsu picked their outfits.

I say that knowing how, canonically, Totty has a pretty bad sense of style. And, I’d assert that it’s deliberate as to reflect how he always wants to come off as trendy and in touch with society but he tries too hard and misses the mark anyway, revealing his true NEET nature.

That said, god can’t stop me.

Also, this took FOREVER. And I have so much more planned to share… I’m literally vibrating with how much art I wanna make and how much I wanna say-

So, stay tune! And have a nice day!

Oh, I love all the potential in this mashup. If this ever were to happen, it’d definitely happen as a result of the S1 ep24 events — after Osomatsu drives all his brothers away. He basically became a hikikomori canonically, after all of that.

I love this so much. The perfect replication of OMORI’s sketchy coloring style. Osomatsu’s blank face. Everything!

Thank you, for making and sharing your art!

Hi!! I don't know if my comment would show up so I'll say it right here- about my post that you reblog, I just want to say that I agree with everything you said! And don't worry about the long texts, I love reading this kind of analysis ^^ (even more so if it's about Osomatsu lol). Oh and your blog looks very interesting! :)

WOW! Heya, and thank you! I really appreciate it!

What can I say, your post was so great it really got my analysis brain going! I loved reading every bit!

I’m planning to do WAY more analysis, so stay tune for that, and I’d love to hear more of your thoughts if you wanna. I want to make art to go with my rants, though. Something colorful to look at for each BRICK WALL of text.

Highschool sextuplet fanart WILL be coming your way-

For ALL our boys, not just Osomatsu too (though cheers, comrade, to our superior best boy taste). They’re all such interesting characters. Man, I adore this anime to pieces.

Thanks, again, for chatting with me. I hope to see you around!

Worlds Best Worst Couple. Lemao. Theyre So Perfect For Each Other In The Most High Blood Pressure Kinda

Worlds best worst couple. Le’mao. They’re so perfect for each other in the most high blood pressure kinda way.

It’s extra funny when you think of it like a shitty reality tv show where after filming Jyushimatsu and Homura being inhumanely cute it’s these 2 disaster moms and their definitely future MMA fighter champion daughter. That baby’s gonna be RIPPED.

Real talk, though. Think the roles should be swapped but it turned out too cute to not share.

Totoko’s definitely saying, “Let go, ugly!” or something like that.

Also, yes, changed Totoko’s fit. HOW IS THE FISH BABE NOT WEARING FISHNETS??!??

A Pretty Obvious Visual On How I Think Osomatsu Feels About His Brothers. As Much As He Goes On About

A pretty obvious visual on how I think Osomatsu feels about his brothers. As much as he goes on about hating being a sextuplet and wanting to be an only child, they’re sorta all he is. I’ll say more about it later!

PS: I tried to make it so that the level of fluid in each IV bag resembles the level of patience each brother has for Osomatsu’s codependency.

I’m really happy with this piece. Yay! Be PROUD!

Damn, thank you. I feel like a good chunk of the fandom sorta misses the point of Osomatsu’s struggles in favor of villainizing him or making him the punchline (literally) in the Karamatsu hates his older brother narrative.

Osomatsu is not a completely trash older brother. At key moments of the series, he’s one of the most supportive (he straight up tells Karamatsu to change for no one and to continue being his painful self; he gets Choromatsu to appreciate the Mountain View instead of panicking the whole trip; he can read Ichimatsu like a book, gets away with petting him, and tried to encourage him to speak his mind when ESP kitty was lost; and tells Jyushimatsu to run after the train and Homura).

Osomatsu is definitely repressed (as you wrote). He doesn’t cry. I’m not doing a content analysis sorta count (yet) but it’s worth noticing that all the brother’s major emotional episodes feature them crying to some degree (Kara tries to not cry but eventually sobs during the pear incident, Ichi cries off screen during the ESP kitty bit, Jyushi cries for Homura, Choro cries after moving, and Totty sheds genuine fear tears at having to use the bathroom alone for the 1st time. Oso? Nothing. Even when he’s alone. Nothing but a dead stare.

I should stop but I’ll admit to an Osomatsu bias before I go — simply because such disclosure is important to accurate consumption of what I say — but Osomatsu and Totty and Choromatsu have so much more going on than what this fandom wants to acknowledge and I am normal about it.

Sorry, for the clutter. You don’t have to listen or read. I just needed to say. Have a lovely day, and, thank you, for your thoughts.

Ok so this is going to be another analyze about Osomatsu (because yes and because I have it in mind and I need to write it down before I forget)

I'll talk about Osomatsu's relationship with crying and sad moments in general, long post after cut

(Oh and- at some point I got lost so none of this probably makes sense- read at your own risk)

I think by this point everyone knows that Osomatsu is a somewhat a complicated person- and if you can please try to remember a time when you saw him crying... hard right? I know-

Off the top of my head I remember three times he cried (maybe I'll remember more later), two of those times were with a comedy proposal so they won't count here, and the last one was a time when he was really sad (was panicked better saying-)

So I have a vision of Osomatsu that I'd like to share (even though I'm not sure if it's 100% right) ok so- He never cries, it's hard to find a moment where he cries for whatever reason, and like- not like Jyushi, Jyushimatsu also has few crying moments, but that's because he is almost never shown being sad, but when these sad moments occur he allow himself to be sad and cry, and I know that there are people who are simply less cry than others and I strongly believe that Osomatsu and Jyushimatsu are two of those cases, but still, they remain human and still cry, but Osomatsu seems to refuse to do that sometimes-

I'll take as an example a situation where he appeared (or in this case really) to be sad which is ep 24 S1. We know that whole situation shook Oso, and as a gift they didn't show his face almost once, he has his back turned the whole time making it difficult to see his full face, only from the nose down was visible and since eyes are a very expressive part of our body we ended up missing a lot of his real emotions, but I'm sure he didn't cried there (he doesn't cry normally, in front of others so it's a complete no for him) but what about when he was off screen? I'm sure he shed a few tears at those times, or worse- had a panic attack (as he's shown himself to be prone to having them), the point is- he looks like he doesn't want to cry, he seems to have a little trouble expressing that kind of emotion and crying must be something he represses.

Osomatsu is the type of person who will laugh at a bad situation and make fun of his problems, but deep down he is agonizing over them. He doesn't want to cry. But why? Perhaps to be an example of a strong older brother? Or because it doesn't suit his character? Oso has already shown that he has problems with his identity, and if he tries so hard to remain in the comfort zone and with the personality he always had, crying is not something that suits the little troublemaker, the older brother, the leader. Not being ok is a horrible situation for him, he doesn't want to feel bad and doesn't know how to react to this type of situation, so he just "stops working" and stands there with its blank face, he won't cry even if sometimes he wants to.

Crying is good and it's a way to let out everything you've been holding back, and Osomatsu has been holding back a lot over these three seasons (+ the movie), after he had a panic attack at the beginning of S3 I think it's an indication that something is not right (I assume crying in a panic attack is normal, so yeah-) I don't think there's a confirmed reason why this happened to him but we can speculate on some things (which I won't do in this post), but anyway he needs help ASAP

I think that's it. I missed this post several times so it sucked to write it all down and at some point (at the beginning) I got lost so if you got something wow congrats (seriously- congrats because even I didn't get it) if anyone wants to add feel free to reblog this thing

May your Chipotle soft tacos never be overstuffed and soggy, you generous bastard, you.

The new Osomatsu San movie "Osomatsu-san: The Hipipo Tribe and the Glistening Fruit" Is now available for download.

Someone on twitter (specifically this generous person) has put the new Osomatsu-san movie up on a site where you can download and watch it!

I repeat,

You can now see “Osomatsu-san: The Hipipo Tribe and the Glistening Fruit” On this site right here right now:

Hipipo Rip-ipo
Hipipo Rip-ipo
🙊

This is currently the only way to see the new movie outside of Japan, and there are no subtitles and it’s only in Japanese, but the film has a lot of action and physical comedy so you can still enjoy it and (sort of) follow the plot even if you don’t understand what’s being said.

Enjoy! And please support the officially release when it comes out in English (but who knows when that’ll be…)

Also, there’s text at the end (and I mean RIGHT at the end, as in after the credits have fully rolled) that says what the title of the next movie coming out in 2023 will be!

Best I can tell, it translates to:

Ososmatsu-san: Soul Takoyaki Party Legendary Sleepover

…I have no clue what that means. Guess we’ll all find out in 2023!

EDIT: ENGLISH FAN SUB NOW AVAILABLE!
