I Feel Like I'm Falling Into A Post Holiday Depression. Didn't Leave The House At All Today. It Was Cold

I feel like I'm falling into a post holiday depression. Didn't leave the house at all today. It was cold and gray. Now, rain. It feels like the cold has gotten into my bones. But, it's too early in the season.

Egg basket, 1850, New Hampshire.

I don't usually dye anything in February.
February is a stagnant month for me. It's too cold. There isn't much change. Everything is grey. And dye plants are scarce. August is my other least favorite month. And interesting that they are 6 months apart.
But I want to use this chunky yarn soon. I decided on yellow onions because, well, that's what I got!
I tossed some cotton into the pot too. I was surprised at how the cotton took up the color more than the yarn. With an alum and cream of tartar mordant no less!
The yarn is alpaca. I have a feeling sheep wool would have been a bit more dramatic of a color change.

I was thinking about a series of hoop drawings involving whimsical forms, but I think I will put them on the back burner for a while longer.

I went on my walk tonight and was fascinated by the long leaf pine bark. I came home and sketched out my thoughts, then began to stitch. I will stay with nature forms for a while, since that is what's speaking to me now.
