You know, I can imagine the Collector and Domino 3 inviting Luz and Anne to a party one year and it just ends up being the Transcendetal Cha Cha for the two.

Luz is freaked out but Anne, who’s been invited a few times is all “oh right, it’s ur first time at the cosmic horror that is this party. Don’t worry and just dance to the music. The feeling of existential dread passes…eventually.”

You guys have no idea what I'd do for a TOH reboot that takes the whole "Belos pulls a teehee haha little psyop on a 14 year old" thing and uses it to it's fullest potential [AND cuts out the time travel stuff.] Belos gaslights Luz in ways Adegast can only dream of -- and he does it just because she looks like the girl who "ruined his life".

It would also be crazy if Belos' reason for staying on TBI wasn't because he couldn't leave -- he CHOOSES to stay. He won't leave until his brother chooses him over Evelyn. So, he'll continue to exploit TBI AND he will keep dragging Evelyn-looking girls into the demon realm UNTIL "Caleb" "redeems himself"

Bonus points if he's extra dickish to Hunter and Luz because they look the most like Caleb and Evelyn.

What messes me up is that if the writers didn’t show the Waybrights or Wus to avoid making excuses, why does Anne do that anyway. She has literally zero feelings about the girls betraying her, her reunion with Sasha is all about how terrible Sasha feels and Anne is relegated to being a perfect support piece for Sasha, and not someone who has every right to be upset. Anne isn’t allowed to hold Sasha accountable, instead her character is just flattened for Sasha’s comfort and growth. Anne also vouches for forgiving Marcy, while Sasha doesn’t.

You know what would’ve made way more sense though? Not having Anne meet the Wus and Waybrights, so when she gets back she’s actually, genuinely pissed at Sasha for what happened, for betraying her a second time when she 100% knew better by this point. Let Anne be angry; She still cares about the girls enough to save them, but she also admits that she just can’t see them being friends again after everything. Not for a while at least.

It’d make Marcy’s half-assed arc of accepting consequences at least hit better if we see her acknowledge this. It’d show Sasha’s growth by seeing her accept Anne’s boundaries. It’d actually give focus to how our main character feels about being betrayed, instead of her suffering being used as a prop for her friends’ arcs.

And it would’ve made the epilogue make so much more sense; We’d have actual buildup to the reveal that Anne and Sasha drifted apart for a decade because we had the setup, it was a foregone conclusion. And it makes the girls reuniting after Anne has had enough time to heal feel truly earned. It’d hammer in the idea of accepting change/consequences, only for Anne to mention that sometimes you’ll be surprised what things might find their way back to you!

But idk I guess having Anne and Sasha be cute besties again was more important. None of this would sting so bad if Anne had an actual arc in 3B about anything else, but instead she’s just going through the motions after forgiving Sasha and throwing herself into harm’s way because of how much faith she has that Sasha will save her and be a leader. It’s not until the final battle that Anne actually has a character arc again but it’s… questionable.

That's definitely an interesting what-if. You could argue in canon that Anne still choosing to forgive Sasha and Marcy after all they've done is a sign of her own maturity and character growth, but I see where you're coming from. In any case, I fully agree that season 3 was a major missed opportunity in regards to really exploring the complexities of the girls' relationships.

not hate at all but. Why lunter?

That's pretty vague but I will answer to the best of my abilities !

So! I've been a Lunter shipper literally since the episode 'Hunting Palismen' aired

I absolutely adored that episode and their dynamic in it with all my heart, and I felt the shipping potential a mile away, so after digging into it for only a few minutes I completely and utterly fell in love with the ship

I've been consistently drawing Lunter for over 3 years now, and I actually give the ship huge credit for helping me improve just because of how much I draw it (at least over 150 separate pieces but I stopped keeping count after a while ^^; probably closer to 200....)

But as we all know, shipping something that the fandom has deemed you should NEVER EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SHIP, comes with its issues

I have gotten SO much hate and harassment over the years, that any kind of hate or argument against the ship has lost all meaning to me

So nowadays, sending me any form of hate earns you an instablock because I don't have time or the mental capacity for that anymore, I'm older and tired and just wanna enjoy and draw my silly ships in peace!!

So in conclusion, ship literally whatever the hell you want to, and enjoy your ships regardless of what anyone else says ❤️

I really do find it incredibly irritating how TOH plays all sides of the shipping board just because they don't want to upset shippers.

It's why you get Evelyn looking more like Luz than Willow - it's also why her face is never shown. Even if Dana didn't want to get into the Caleb/Evelyn and Philip murder drama, there isn't any reason for her face to be obscured UNLESS the goal wasnt to upset shippers

It's why you get Luz's type of of boy being angsty warrior princes like Hunter - it's also why all of Hunter's important moments involve Luz and not Willow.

This is why you get Hunter dying and coming back to life looking like Caleb pleading with Luz to help him fight Belos in TTT, but then his entire arc culminates with him holding pinkies with Willow FTF. This is why all the interesting themes Hunter brought to the table were completely kneecapped by his relationship with Willow.

It's fucking bizarre LMAO.

It's already late at night, Hunter covered himself with some white sheet as Lilith gently laid her hand on the boy's shoulder.

Lilith asks, "Hunter... How are you doing?" He answered calmly. "I'm fine, Lilith. It's nothing to be worried about."

"Hunter, Luz told me that you've been controlled by Belos. That's it's not a nothing, and don't tell me to not be worried about you!" She scolded the boy.

Hunter looks at Luz as she dodge the stare from the boy. "Lilith... I'm fine now, really." Lilith raised her voice a little. "Now?! How about before that, you hurt, you're in pain isn't it?"

The two of them bickered for awhile until Lilith took a deep breath and sighed a little. She walked away to meet with the other, and that only left Hunter and Luz alone.

"Why didn't you tell her?" Luz asks in the low voice. "Same as you did with your mother... I don't want her to have this burden or blame herself where she couldn't reach me." Hunter answers as he is not looking at her but the door where Lilith walks out.

"oh... Sorry, for telling her about you being controlled by Belos..." She says. "It's fine. At least you don't tell her about me dying." He says calmly.

"How can you say dying so calmly!? You almost die!" She agitated. "Die is a must have.. but I'm here now." He's grabbing his chest, "The one that died is Flapjack. I am grateful and really sad for what Flapjack did." As he said, Luz is emotionally sad as she looks down. She stands up and walks towards him slowly

"I'm sorry, I don't mean to yell at you..." Gently lay her hands as she leans behind him. "I'm sorry too... I don't mean to make you worried too and say the word dying so calmly." He says.

She shakes her head against his back. "It's fine, I just want to be grateful that you are here, and alive. But no talk about dying! Understand?" Hunter chuckle. "Sure. But no promises."

something about the meta aspect of luz and hunter's dynamic dying when flapjack does is tremendously funny to me. because truly, if the writers wanted to follow on any of the story involving flapjack after that episode - after revealing how he was a physical symbol of caleb and evelyn's love, characters whose only real mirror in the narrative are hunter and luz, argue with the wall - it would've meant that they had to acknowledge that, as the show exists up until that point, the narrative mirror of the witteclaw story is most effectively fulfilled by luz and hunter's relationship.

but of fucking course they didn't want to acknowledge that - not when luz's endgame is the girl next door and hunter's crushing on the safest, most boring alternative. and so what do they do? kill flapjack, ignore any thematic resonance his action has within the wittebane lore, and bury any other mention of evelyn's involvement for the remainder of the show. whatever work they did on their friendship becomes absolutely useless because suddenly, luz's only important bonds in the show are to her mom, eda and king, and amity. because in order for the show to actually have this conversation, to bring up the themes of caleb and evelyn's story and its importance to belos' character and the themes of the show, they would have to admit that they chose wrong.

I still don't see how people can legitimately argue TOH was subverting romantic expectations when it doesn't... actually do that.

In order for this kind of subversion to work, you need to address why Luz and Hunter getting together is detrimental to them. But at no point do the writers actually show us WHY Hunter and Luz aren't a good fit for each other. You'd expect them to be very careful in how they go about writing Luz's and Hunter's relationship - like making sure Willow is the most important character to Hunter's arc.

But they don't actually do that - instead of having Willow act as the catalyst for Hunter's arc it's Luz. She is there for all of Hunter's important moments... which is not what you would do if your goal was to actually subvert romantic expectations. Another thing you don't do is make Luz and Hunter parallels to past lovers who are deeply tied to the story's villain.

People tend to use Witches Before Wizards as evidence of a subversion of romantic expectations... but that was used to foreshadow Belos' true nature and Hunters' relationship to him [Sense and Insensitivity does this as well... like they rlly wanted to make it clear Belos' and Hunter's relationship was something integral to the story]. I also need to point out WBW comes right after the first episode - which has a talking point about how you shouldn't punished for something as innocuous as shipping. So to have the first episode be proceeded by an episode that establishes Luz's relationship to a prince as something VERY IMPORTANT because of how it relates to the story's villain is... hmm... suspicious to say the least. I don't think this is something they'd do if their goal was to create an argument against Luz and Hunter getting together.

Even if you wanted to make a case by using Eclipse Lake as evidence for Hunter and Luz being bad for each other - it still doesn't work. Yes, Hunter, in Eclipse Lake is technically making a choice between Luz and Belos like he did in Hunting Palismen. But here's the thing: this choice isn't used BY THE WRITERS to argue why Hunter and Luz would be bad for each other. If it was intended to be used against Luz/Hunter then Luz's perception of Hunter would have changed and his choice would be used as a point of contention between them. This would have been a perfect way to insert Willow into Hollow Mind instead of Luz.... but they don't do that.

They don't do that because Hunter's and Luz's relationship was never intended to be painted in a negative light.

In fact, Hollow Mind goes so far as to parallel them with Caleb and Evelyn. And I'm not talking about making Evelyn's appearance more like Luz than Willow. I'm talking abut stuff like this:

There's also the parallel of Caleb/Hunter being "lured away" from Philip by a witch from another world... with the bonus points of Evelyn/Luz expecting the arrival of a new family member. Which is unbelievably haunting to me btw LMAO.

Thanks to Them takes it even further by telling the story of Caleb and Evelyn.... while Luz is dressed as a witch and Hunter is cosplaying as a human... and they made sure Luz was sitting right next to Hunter when the story was being told... I'm not making this shit up - that's literally what happened. Once again, this was another moment that could have been given to Willow instead of Luz.... but it's not.

[A/N: Seeing Luz sit next to Hunter with her gf right before the writers release the Caleb/Evelyn bombshell on them is so fucking funny. This entire episode is a joy to sit through because it reads like an episode written by someone who doesn't like Lumity and Huntlow. I don't know how they could have written the most anti-Lumity and anti-Huntlow episode in the show accidentally, but they did. 10/10 episode tbh.]

Then there is Luz's association with wolves highlighted by Hunter's newfound love of wolves... then there is Flapjack only letting Luz use him during their fight with Belos... then there is Flapjack flying to Luz instead of Willow when he's on his deathbed... FINALLY, there is Hunter coming back to life looking like Caleb and pleading with Luz - who is still dressed as a witch - to help him fight his grand-uncle-brother.

I also want to note Willow's costume in TTT takes design cues from Evelyn's stereotypes. I don't think this was intentional, because if it was then that would have been used to foreshadow Hunter NOT ending up with Willow. But it is very funny to me and I like to think that it was a sneaky move done by a Huntlow hater in the crew... I know I would do something like this if I was forced to make Hunter and Willow a thing LOL.

So yeah, you'd think they'd give all this stuff to Willow instead of Luz, since they intended to culminate Hunter's arc with him holding pinkies with Willow instead of helping Luz fight Belos.

At this point you're probably thinking... hmm... if the writers always intended to make Luzs and Hunters relationship detrimental to their stories, then they're not doing a very good job at it. And you'd be right... because they never intended to write an argument against it in the first place.

Even though they wanted Hunter to be paired off with Willow, they never bothered to make sure she's there for all of his important moments. Instead, Hunter's important moments are given to Luz - the only character in this show who has a thing for angsty warrior princes with tragic yet compelling backstories.

And I havent the faintest fucking idea why they though this was a good idea... but I sure do know it wasn't because they wanted to create a compelling argument against Luz/Hunter.

See... part of me actually wants to know what Dana's thought process was with Luz's and Hunter's relationship.

Like... why did she decide to make Luz's type of boy "angsty warrior princes" even though Luz's type of boy could have been literally anything else?

Why was Luz's relationship with a prince highlighted as important since WBW? Even going to far as to make Luz write a romantic scene between her and a prince in Sense and Insensitivity. Hunter would not make his debut until season two, but they felt the need to bring him up in SAI.

Why wasn't there more of an effort to make sure Willow was there for all of Hunter's important moments?

Why did they keep hammering in the Lunter = Caleb/Evelyn parallels, even when Luz was dating Amity? If you want to argue Luz had to be there for all of Hunter's moments because she's the protagonist, it doesn't explain why they wrote these parallels. Especially the ones that came up in Hollow Mind and Thanks to Them.

Why is Luz honest with Hunter in Thanks to Them when she has never been honest with how she feels with any other character -- not even her girlfriend? What makes Hunter different from anyone else? She could have just kept how she actually feels to herself and it would have changed nothing. It's not like Hunter wouldn't have given his speech to Luz if she didn't tell him how she feels... cuz she literally tells everyone how she feels after Hunter comes back to life. This decision is strange and unbelievably haunting... because Thanks to Them brought up the Caleb/Evelyn lore in an episode where Luz's relationship with Hunter was the focus... oh okay... i guess this is nbd then. Like I'm just supposed to not make a big deal abt Luz being honest without having the truth forced out of her... okay. I guess i also shouldn't make a big deal about the other choice to have Hunter know Luz's secret in Hollow Mind.

Why did WAD make Willow stand in front of Flapjack's grave with Hunter, even though the only other character with significant ties to Flapjack is Luz? WAD even made it clear Luz feels guilty about Flapjacks death... but she still isn't shown to pay respects to Flapjack post timeskip... WAD is gaslighting me into thinking Willow has significant thematic ties with Flapjack... as if she has a deeper relationship with that bird than Luz did. And just to make it even worse, they give EVERYONE Flapjack tattoos even though no other characters besides Luz and Hunter are tied to Flapjack. Especially Amity... like girlies first and last conversation with Hunter was when he made her feel bad about her relationship with Luz in Eclipse Lake... but the show is gaslighting me into thinking Amity and Hunter are friends or something. TOH LOVES tricking me into thinking certain character relationships exist...

I'm not going to ask why Hunter is unconcerned with Luz not coming through the portal right away in FTF because I already know the answer. This episode exists almost exclusively to make sure Hunter's arc ends with him holding pinkies with Willow. FTF is really funny for pulling this little stunt at the beginning because it's completely out of character for Hunter LMAO. Not sure why they've made such a big deal about Luz's and Hunter's relationship, just to pretend like it doesn't exist in FTF; only to then bring it up in WAD by having Hunter and Amity guide Luz out of the illusion... nightmare thing. They just cant stop bringing up Luz's relationship with Hunter even when both of them are dating someone else, it's so crazy.
